Hello guys! Alright, I’m asking you for some help…
Anyways, so I’ve found a skeleton spawner and decided to build an XP farm out of it. I decided to experiment with the “water elevator” design The problem is: I placed down some water in the “elevator” area which makes the skeletons go up, and I put down a block of soul sand in the bottom of this elevator which is supposed to create bubble columns going up, except that it didn’t work!
So, what am I doing wrong guys? Be sure to take a look in the screenshots down below.
Screenshot #1 is showing the elevator area. The soul sand isn’t creating any bubble columns. The other screenshots aren’t important, just showing the rest of the XP grinder.
Just figured out that when I’d turn 8 years old, the 23th of November 2011, my parents could have offered me Minecraft as a birthday gift. Sigh…
Fun but frustrating platformer. Saves me of boredom when I don’t feel like playing Minecraft. Knowledge of 8-bit old-school videogames is optional tho’.

Make sure the water is flat and possibly need the water source to start from the bottom up.
You need a water source at the bottom and top of the water column.
And if you want the elevator to move things faster, make it all source blocks.

How To Build A Water Elevator In Minecraft
A water elevator is pretty easy to build once you know how it works, then you can actually scale up the elevator design and also add some extra contraptions thatll make the elevator more useful.
The soul sand block in Minecraft is a pretty nasty-looking block, it has a texture that shows souls screaming in the nether. Though the idea behind the block is grim, the uses of the block are pretty noble for you the player. And one of these properties will help us out in our endeavor to build a water elevator!
When the soul sand block is placed directly under a water column, itll start emitting bubbles, and these bubbles arent for vanity, they actually will push you in the upwards direction, making it the ideal choice for our water elevator.
Though this sounds pretty easy, in practice it might take a lot of time because the block above the soul sand block will have to water source blocks, if they are flowing the water wont push you up and will not function as an elevator.
And you also have to make sure to enclose the water column at all four sides with some solid block, or youll move from side to side which isnt a great situation to be in!
Once you have your enclosure ready, place the kelp block all the way through the tube. And then go to the top and pour a single bucket of water, the water will flow towards the bottom and the entire tub will be filled with flowing water. But we need source-block water, right?
Three: Place The Water
You need a lot of water source blocks for this step. With the Magma Blocks and Soul Sand placed, grab two Water Buckets. Place one on any of the four blocks at the base, and place the other Water Bucket on the block in the opposite corner. This will create an infinite water supply from which you can collect the water for the next level.
From here, you need to repeat the step above on every level of your water elevator. The reason for this is that the bubbles created by the Soul Sand and Magma Blocks only work on Water Source blocks, not running water.
Once you have done all this, you will have a basic working bubble elevator! You can edit the blocks around it as you wish to make the elevator more aesthetically pleasing. However, you always need to have the Magma Blocks and Soul Sand at the bottom of the elevator. You must also have a Water Source block at ever level.
