Item Sorter With Multiple Items Per Tick
General InfoI’m playing on a server where they modified the hoppers to pass 8 items per tick instead of 1.
The system I want to buildI’m working on a casino game. User tosses 1 item into a hopper. This activates the casino making the user win or lose.
The problemAn item sorter is required to prevent the user from tossing in different items. Whether this is a hopper that only allowes 1 type of item to enter or 1 that filters out different item types does not matter.
The problem is the hoppers passing 8 items per tick. Say there are 18 stacked items inside a hopper. 1 is tossed in, activating the redstone signal. Instead of that 1 item passing through to the next hopper, 8 are passed through at once, leaving only 11 stacked items into the “sorter hopper”. So now the next player would have to toss in 8 items instead of 1 in order for it to activate the redstone signal again.
Is there some way I can solve this issue?
Some extra info that might be usefullThe game doesn’t require an item sorter to work. Without redstone, a single item gets passed through the hoppers just fine. I just need to prevent players from tossing in other items than the one required. So any solution to that end is perfect.
What I’ve tried myselfI’ve tried the classic item sorter method passing “wrong” items on to a different hopper and I’ve tried the “1 item type only” method where the input hopper only accepts that item type. Both resulted in the same issue.

- Allays are rare. Unless Minecraft introduces a mating system, they are a hefty investment for simple farms.
- They are slower than traditional systems of water streams, minecarts, and indirect hoppers. But they do reduce manual labor.
- Allays are dependent on note blocks. So, every Allay-based farm involves an additional task of making a Redstone clock.
- Due to the constant presence of note blocks, all your farms are going to be noisy. The noise wont be as harsh as pistons, but its still not the best trade-off.
- You need multiple Allays in the same farm if its larger than 16 blocks. Not to forget, they move slowly within open areas.
Now, if you can live with these circumstantial issues, Allay is ready to serve your farm with the next update. But if you dont want them as farmworkers, they can still be reliable allies.

How Does Allay Work In Minecraft
In simple terms, Allay is a non-hostile Minecraft mob that takes an item from the player and looks for the same around the loaded chunks of your world. You can give it any in-game item or block. Then, once the Allay finds a copy of that item, it will bring it back to you. But you can also assign it a particular note block to gather items around it .
If you play a note block around an Allay, it becomes its favorite note block for 30 seconds. Then, instead of looking for a player, Allay keeps dropping items around that note block. It can carry a full stack of items at a time. However, as for non-stackable items, the Allay drops the original item and then looks for its copies in your Minecraft world.
How Does An Automatic Item Sorter Work
As its name suggests, an automatic item sorter in Minecraft helps players to categorize their items automatically via the chest system. The mechanism functions like this:
- You feed your items from your inventory to the Input chests.
- The Input chests drop the items onto the Hoppers, then onto the conveyor belt.
- All of the items will travel to each and every single chest in the system. When you leave at least one of the desired items, the correct ones will stack and stay there. In case the chest doesn’t contain the exact same item, the system moves it along.
- The process repeats until there are no items left in the system.
- In case the system overflows or no chests are available, the items travel to the Output chest.

Use Allay to Find Ores
You can find diamonds in Minecraft with some regular mining. But if you are using Redstone machines, mining bores, or TNT to mine the ore, things can get pretty messy. Unless you are specifically looking for, collecting, and sorting ores, its easy to lose track of them. Thats where Allays come into the picture.
After an area is strip-mined or exploded, Allay can look for diamonds and collect them for you. It will eliminate the need to search for and sort items in a mined area. Not to forget, Allay is better than you when it comes to locating items.

We are still in the unexplored territory here, but Allay seems to have a great sense of direction. So, it is easy to implement and use in some of the best Minecraft adventure maps. Moreover, you can also use this cute mob to find certain areas in bigger Minecraft houses or even to find your house in Minecraft.
To do that, you have to assign an Allay and a note block to an area near your house. Then, whenever you give Allay its assigned item, it will lead you right to the note block. Do keep in mind that such a system needs more than one Allay because of its 16 blocks range.

1. To begin, the first obvious step is to craft a note block in Minecraft. For that, you need eight wooden planks and one Redstone dust. Once you have them, use the recipe below and place them on a crafting table. The wooden planks can be made using any type of wood, be it oak, spruce, birch, jungle, acacia, or dark oak, among others.
2. Then, you need to give Allay the item you want them to find. To do so, select the item in your inventory and right-click, or you can use the secondary action key in Minecraft.
3. Finally, you need to play the note block to lure an Allay and assign it to them. You can do so using the secondary action key. Then, the Allay will automatically collect copies of the assigned item and bring them to the note block.
Automate Note Blocks
The best way to automate note blocks in Minecraft is by creating a Redstone circuit or a clock. It is a simple arrangement of Redstone blocks that makes the note block play music every few seconds.
1. To automate a note block and use Allay in Minecraft farms, we need the following items:

- 1 Note block
- 1 Lever

How To Sort Not Stackable Items Using Allay
As mentioned earlier, there is no way to sort not stackable items in Minecraft. Only an Allay can target items even if you cant stack them. So, with that in mind, you need to place a group of Allays towards the end of a sorting chain. You can use water or minecarts to send items to the Allay workshop.
Here, each Allay has a dedicated note block with a hopper beneath it. So, if an Allay receives an item associated with it, Allay will pick it up and throw it on the assigned note block. This system works on all Minecraft blocks. You do need a whole bunch of Redstone dust and Allays to run it, though.

Step 1: First put 5 double chests in a row followed by 5 more on top of them. Now connect a hopper to each of them.
Step 2: Place about 5 repeaters in a row facing the chest, two blocks away from the hopper. Now place the building blocks on both sides of the repeaters with a redstone torch on the inner blocks.
Step 3: Now the player has to make a 3×5 platform next to the hopper. Now keep 5 comparators near them keeping them away from the hopper.
Step 4: Players have to use redstone dust to connect all the comparators, repeaters.

Step 5: Now Place a Row of Hoppers Going Inside Each Comparator. On one side, place a temporary block with the hoppers going in. Once the hopper is installed, remove the temporary block.
Step 6: Now rename some blocks to use as filters and put them in the last 4 slots of the hopper which are connected to the comparator. Put the type of item that needs to be sorted in the first slot.
Step 7: Add a Chest to the Left of the Top Row of the Hopper and Put the Items to Sort Them.

Is It Possible To Sort Non
Item Sorters are super sweet. But, I have a skeleton farm, and am getting tons of non-stackable drops. Since armor can be smelted into iron/gold, I’d like to smelt those drops in a furnace, and burn bows in a furnace. And trash all leather armor. Is there a way to sort out these non-stackable items in vanilla survival?

- @IronAnvil Not really. Fabian’s answer is partial, but gets at the key point. There’s no “universal” sorter, but a couple of “partial” tricks. There is no one way for all of them, but most can be sorted using different tricks: Armour and weapons can be equipped to zombies and unequipped again, potions and water bottles can be filtered using a brewing stand, shulker boxes can be placed and broken automatically and so on.
For now, please just look up ” sorter” for all of them on YouTube, I’ll expand this answer later once I’ve figured it out for all items myself.
