Minecraft Disable Mob Spawn In A Specific Area Of A Multiplayer Map

How To Stop Mobs From Ever Spawning! – Minecraft Tutorial

minecraft-commandsminecraft-java-edition

I run a private server for my friends, and want to make a specific area mob-safe, without placing any block or light it. Changing the global difficulty or mob-spawning server property with command block is not an option: even if somebody is insed the area , I need the mob spawning on the rest of the map work normally. Changing the biom to mushroom island is also not very good, because it is in the middle of a huge desert, and I want weather to work the same as its surroundings .

Is there any way to do this, via command block, map edition, or maybe modding, scripting, etc.?

Best Answer

This doesn’t disable spawning, exactly, but it will kill all mobs within a certain radius. First, you have to create a team for your friends and you to stop yourselves getting killed when you enter that location. So, run a repeating command block with this command:

Replace RADIUS with the amount of blocks you want the command block to check for in each direction. For example, if you had a 5x5x5 room, and the command block was in the center of the room, your radius would be two.

So, now, whenever mobs that are not players spawn in that area, it’ll kill them.

However, mobs count as both hostile ones and docile ones . If you, for example, want sheep to survive in that area, change the command to this:

So now, the command block will allow sheep to spawn in that area. If you wanted to add a pig, do the same for the entity type Pig:

And so on.

Minecraft What Are All Possible Ways To Stop A Zombie From Despawning

minecraft-java-edition

Is there any way for which we are able to stop a zombie from de-spawning no matter how far we go? If so, what are all possible ways?

Bonus question: what are all the other techniques for which we can prevent a zombie from de-spawning within a specific block radius?

Best Answer

There’s one, pretty expensive way: Name the zombie using a name tag.

Name tags outside creative mode can be found in treasure chests, or as rare loot when fishing .

You rename them using the anvil, and then apply to given mob. Once named, the mob will not despawn. Of course, hostile mobs will remain hostile, mortal and in case of some, like creepers, suicidal, but at least they don’t despawn. Additionally, you get monster’s name over their head.

Or if you have cheats enabled, you can spawn a mob with the tag with command blocks that prevent the mob from despawning.

The cheapest way to have non-despawning zombie is to have it pick up an item. Only a certain percent of zombies have the ability to pick up items – 20% on hard, 7% on normal, 1% on easy zombies with initially naturally spawned ‘rare drop’ items don’t count – it must be any item picked up after spawning.

Advanced Method To Proof Mobs Spawning

If you think that the basic methods will not be effective enough to prevent the mobs from spawning, you can use the advanced method of how to stop mobs from spawning in minecraft command.

You might want to understand the mobs in Minecraft more. You might already know that the Minecraft game has a cap of the mobs. Anytime there is a player online, the mob cap will increase by 70.

How can you deal with this mob cap? There is no other method to alter the mob cap but using commands. You have to do this if you do not want to find your Minecraft world that is filled with a lot of mobs.

You might want to give a name tag to a mob. The name tagged mob will not count toward the mob cap any longer. However, it will not despawn as well.

It means that even if you go away from the Minecraft world, it is still there. This is the basic despawn rule of the mobs, but some mobs such as Shulkers and Withers are excepted from this rule.

That is why you can prevent them from spawning by putting more than these mobs mob cap in the chunks of spawn.

You can bring the mobs inside and outside of the chunks of spawn to turn it on and off if they are located on the chunks of spawn edges.

You can also try to use portals to fill the area. With this method, the mob switch can be placed anywhere you want in the world.

Minecraft Mobs Cant Spawn In Mushroom Biomes

Mobs spawning in an insanely well lit room

In the mushroom biomes, hostile mobs will not spawn at all. This is a good option if you dont want to deal with lighting every part of your build. Note that you can replace the mycelium on the ground with normal grass and mobs still wont spawn. Mycelium will spread to nearby dirt blocks, so make sure you dont allow any to touch the grass or dirt you put down.

Basic Method To Proof Mobs Spawning

Before you can go further to find out the command for stopping the mobs from spawning, you need to know that some basic rules of spawn proofing can be found.

It means that some natural conditions make the mobs unable to spawn. You might want to understand this matter first because it might not be necessary to disable the mob spawn through commands sometimes.

The very basic method to prevent the mobs from spawning is by utilizing light blocks. You have to make sure that you have high enough light exposure that makes the mobs unable to spawn after dark.

If you want to provide lights, you need to place torches. With more torches, you can boost the level of lights around those mobs.

This way, the hostile mobs can be stopped from spawning. Besides the torches, you can also use other light sources Shroomlight or Glowstone. Although it is more difficult to come by, this item can emit light with higher levels.

The light blocks are not the only key to prevent the mobs from spawning. The mobs will not have the ability to spawn the blocks with not more than the height of a full block.

The same thing goes on the areas that are covered in slabs with bottom and half height. The level of light and the light blocks will not play a big matter in this circumstance.

How Can I Disable A Mob Spawner Without Destroying It

How to Kill All Mobs and Stop Their Spawning | Minecraft Tutorial

I hear rumors that lava, water, and enough light can all disable spawners if done correctly. However, I can’t seem to verify any of this.

In what ways is it possible to disable a mob spawner without destroying it?

  • Hasn’t this been covered before?Mar 8 2012 at 19:45

Mob spawners work on the basis of covering a small area with spawnable locations. If all possible spawnable locations are invalid, it won’t spawn anything.

The following things will mark a location as invalid for the purposes of spawning a monster:

  • Light level 9 or higher
  • A solid block occupying the location
  • A lava or water block occupying the location

The following are considered valid:

  • Air blocks at light level 8 or lower
  • Blocks occupied with things that you can walk through at light level 8 or lower
  • Do all water levels prevent spawning? user7220Mar 8 2012 at 11:01
  • 1No only the room being totally flooded would prevent spawning. Mobs would simply spawn in the air above the water and drop down. Your best bet is to light up the area.

How To Adjust Mob Spawning Rates

  • On your Multicraft control panel, stop your server.
  • Navigate to Files> Config Files> Bukkit.yml
  • In this file, you will find the following settings:
    delay-chunk-unloads-by: 30schunk-gc: period-in-ticks: 600
  • Adjusting the settings highlighted in blue will adjust the spawn rates of your mobs. These numbers are the maximum amount of mobs that can be spawned in your world at any one time.
  • Make any changes you would like to these numbers, save the changes at the bottom of the page and restart your server!
  • You may need to adjust these numbers on more than one occasion to find the mob spawn rate that suits you. If you have any issues with this, of course, please don’t hesitate to get back in touch.

Do Mobs Spawn At Any Height

When there are multiple players, mobs can spawn within the given distance of any of them. However, hostile mobs that move farther than 128 blocks from the nearest player despawn instantly, so the mob spawning area is more-or-less limited to spheres with a radius of 128 blocks, centered at each player.

Minecraft Mobs Dont Spawn On Slabs

Hostile mobs cannot spawn on half-slabs and you can use them to mob-proof tricky areas like roofs or hallways. Note that only half-slabs placed on the bottom half will stop mob spawning. Mobs can still spawn if you place a slab on the top half or use a double slab.

Only certain blocks can be crafted into slabs, including: wooden planks, stone, bricks, sandstone, cobblestone, quartz, nether brick, purpur, etc. A slab is crafted by putting three of these blocks in the bottom row of a crafting table.

Minecraft Mobs Spawn In The Dark

Mobs only spawn where there is darkness, such as the inside of a poorly-lit house, a cave, or outside during the night. The first step to stop mobs from spawning in Minecraft is to use light sources such as torches, glowstone, or lamps and eliminate all dark areas.

Adding torches will also stop mobs from spawning in Minecraft dungeons. Dungeons have lots of mobs because of mob spawners, but lighting up the area will turn off the mob spawner temporarily.

Some players find it useful to install mods that highlight blocks where hostile mobs are able to spawn. You can then light-up these blocks and stop the mobs before they even start spawning! This is one of the more popular ones.

    Setting Up A Custom Gamerule

Now, if you want to be able to toggle this, we need to create a custom gamerule, by running

    /gamerule noZombieOrGhast 1

As of now, this does absolutely nothing. Let’s get ourselves a dummy armorstand called #handle and a dummy objective:

    /summon ArmorStand ~ ~ ~ /scoreboard objectives add noZombieOrGhast dummy

Now create another clock to query the value of the custom GameRule noZombieOrGhast

    /gamerule noZombieOrGhast

Make the command block output the queried result to the armor stand (x y z is the coordinates for the last command block:

Finally, place a third command block into this clock to test for the armor stand with the score of 0:

Put a comparator on this last command block, and make the output disable the killing clock.

Set the custom gamerule to 0 or 1 to allow or disallow Zombie and Ghast spawning, respectively.

    /gamerule noZombieOrGhast 0/gamerule noZombieOrGhast 1

How Do I Stop Mobs From Spawning On My Roof

You can put a torch on them, but they are fully transparent so mobs cant spawn on them. Partially transparent blocks that you can put torches on, like hoppers and redstone blocks can spawn mobs, but you cant put torches on leaf blocks, and mobs cant spawn on them. Thats a good rule of thumb, thanks.

How Far Do I Have To Place Torches So That Mobs Will Not Spawn Near Me

Since torches prevent mobs from spawning, is it possible to place enough torches within a specific radius to ensure safety during the night? I’m thinking of a situation without any shelter built, more along the lines of a flat plain. If it is possible, how many torches/how far out do I need to go to make that area safe?

    • Denilson Sá MaiaJul 29 2012 at 2:17
    • Best to make sure by using F3 to show the light level of the block you are standing on. If it’s 7 or lower, you need your torches/lanterns/glowstone to be closer together.
  • Sunlight gives 15 luminance to the blocks it hits directly, or through half steps.
  • Lava gives 15 luminance.
  • A Jack-o-lantern gives 15 luminance.
  • A Torch gives 14 luminance to the otherwise empty block it occupies.
  • A Redstone torch gives 7 luminance to the otherwise empty block it occupies.
  • Every tile that isn’t a light source has a luminance of one minus the luminance of its neighbors. For example, if you had a 6 and a 4 luminance sources close to each other, attached to a wall, you’d have this distribution:

                1 121 1 12321 121 1234321 1232123454321 123432345654321 124321 1 12321 121 1

…except this works in three dimensions instead of two!

  • The following applies to any difficulty, except for Easy.
  • Every tile within 24 distance of the player is not eligible.
  • Every tile outside a 144×144 square centered on you is not eligible.
  • GOTO 1
