It is available for Windows, MacOS, and iPad devices and will need to be downloaded on the devices you plan to use with your learners. Purchase Minecraft: Education Edition For Teachers And Students
As a teacher, you will need to have your IT Admin purchase licenses for you and your students directly through the Microsoft Admin Center, or you may already have access to licenses at your school if you have an Office 365 subscription.
M:EE is included in many volume license agreements, however, only the administrators at your school will be able to assign and manage those licenses. If you have an Office 365 account, check with your school administration or IT administrator prior to purchasing M:EE directly.

Secondly we would greatly appreciate if some of the enchants from Minecraft Java Edition are incorporated into this game e.g sweeping edge, curse of binding, curse of vanishing and much more. Thirdly we think that the Redstone and PvP mechanics are enhanced, for example Quasi-Connectivity in Redstone or Weapon recharge . Minecraft And Accessible Play
BACKGROUND
This likely wont be your typical Minecraft Education blog post since I do not engage in typical teaching. Granted most teachers, given every childs uniqueness, would say the same and even more so educators whove embraced Minecraft for instruction. What I mean though is that I have, for more than a decade, worked in New York Citys District 75, the worlds largest special education district, teaching students with some of the most challenging conditions from behavioral and learning disabilities to physical and developmental disorders. For that reason I have had to seek out innovative learning tools and methods because traditional techniques wouldnt suffice.
Into that unique environment I introduced Minecraft about five years ago. At first it was because it was something that engaged my students outside of school, so I sought to find out what educational value it could have. As I would find there is really no other game that exemplifies autonomy, creativity, and freedom as well as Minecraft. It is an open sandbox for creating whatever world you can imagine. Autonomy is a skill that is crucial in my teaching practice since, due to their disabilities, my students often struggle to achieve even basic levels of independence. I was then determined to incorporate it in my practice.

At the densely crowded Bett show, a mammoth education technology conference taking up most of Londons ExCel venue, a vast audience has gathered to watch one particular demonstration.
It is Microsofts newly announced Minecraft: Education Edition, a special version of the hugely successful building sim, specifically customised for the classroom environment.
As the company representative highlights the main features, spectators photograph every single powerpoint slide. Behind the stage theres a demo area with dozens of laptops running an early version of the new edition all lined up on tables designed to resemble the games simple wooden blocks.
There is a constant throng of excitable children, all desperate to play. Minecraft is a big attraction and Microsoft knows it.
Just a week before Bett, the company announced that it had purchased MinecraftEDU, an educational version of the game, which was already being used in hundreds of schools all over the world. That product was designed and distributed by a small Finnish-American outfit, TeacherGaming, and while Microsoft says it wont shut EDU down, the game wont be receiving any new updates or support.
MinecraftEDU could use peer-to-peer networking as well but it wasnt straightforward and without technical staff on-hand some teachers found it intimidating.

As one might expect from most Minecraft titles, players can collect materials, craft, build, and battle hostile mobs in this edition of the game.

So, is Minecraft safe for educational use? Any time a computer is connected to the internet, there are some risks. However, Minecraft: Education Edition is a bit different from other platforms its installed on a computer and students join a class that their teacher creates. That said, the students dont use a web or browser-based version.
Teachers can also be virtually present in the lesson which sets Minecraft apart from older forms of edutainment with those games, teachers werent able to be in the middle of the action, so to speak, and instead had to look over students shoulders to monitor what they were doing on screen. Not only does a teachers presence make the game safer and more welcoming, but it also gives educators another way to interact with students.
