Maps Are Very Useful In Minecraft

The world of Minecraft is massive, with the blocky graphics look mostly the same. It is fairly easy to get lost if you stray too far from your base. To keep track of your base and various points of interest, you can erect beacons, use torches, or draw a map. These maps will let you figure out your location, where you’ve been, and where you are heading. You can also add your custom markers.

In this article, we would show you how to make a map in Minecraft to keep track of your territory.

Automatically Fill Up Maps On World Which Is Fully Generated

How to Use /Fill Command in Minecraft Education Edition ...

I have a custom world which was created with a world generator, and it’s about 10,000 blocks on a side. What I want to do is generate completed in-game maps of the entire world. At the largest zoom level of maps this should take about 24 maps square.

The usual problem with this is that you can’t generate a map of an area which has not been generated yet, however this is not a problem here since the entire area I want to map is already fully generated.

Any ways I can do this? A tool, or in-game technique I can use. Flying around with creative mode is just too slow.

Thanks!

How To Transform The Empty Map Into A Map Item

When you first create a map in Minecraft, it is completely blank and doesnt have any kind of information. You need to hold the empty map and press the Use item option to transform the empty map into a map item in the game. Once you do that, it will gradually start filling with all the information as you start travelling within the borders.

How To Create A Seamless Mosaic Of Maps

Creating a wall of maps for newcomers is a great idea to help them get on their way. To begin, you want to create four empty maps — try creating them with indicators, as this will show where all players in the game are located. You will also want to create four item frames.

Place your frames in a square on the wall. Hold onto your first map and right-click to initialize it where you stand. Place this map in a frame on your map wall.

Travel beyond the border of the first map you place on your map wall. Initialize the next empty map where you stand and return to the map wall. Place the map in the corresponding frame so that the pictures line up.

Repeat the process, each time heading in a different direction before initializing a new map, until your map wall is filled. You can theoretically make this wall as big as you’d like as long as resources allow.

Requirements For Crafting A Map In Minecraft

While you can find maps in treasure chests or buy them from a cartographer, it is best to just craft one yourself. To make a map in Java Edition, you will need a compass and 8 pieces of paper. Both items can be crafted by the raw materials you find around the world.

If you are playing Bedrock Edition, you can combine 9 pieces of paper into a basic map that doesn’t have location tracking. You can even start a game in bedrock with a map equipped by toggling on “Starting Map” in the World Preferences menu.

How To Use The Map

You crafted an empty map and are ready for your next adventure. The problem is the map is blank and thats not helpful to you at all. But remember that unique Minecraft mechanic that allows you to create the map as you explore? Its time to fill in that map of yours.

To use the map, equip it from your inventory. Once you do, youll notice lines appear on that previously blank piece of yellowed paper. Your map is coming together right before your eyes.

Wander around and youll find that your map fills in the details of your surroundings. You can even see yourself on the map. Just look for the little white marker.

Once you use the map, it wont be labeled as an empty map anymore. Instead, the game assigns it a number so that you can differentiate between filled maps and empty ones.

How To Get And Use Maps

First things first, in order to use a map you will first need to make one. Luckily there are two different methods to obtaining them, one of which is quite a bit easier than the other. The older method of making a map is to take a compass on a crafting table and surround it with paper to create an empty map. A new method of creating maps is via the use of a cartography table, which can either be found in villages or made by putting wood planks in a 2×2 pattern with two pieces of paper on top of them. With one of these, you only need a single piece of paper to create an empty map. Once you have your empty map, go to wherever it is you want to map out and simply right-click with the map. This will open it up and map out the area around you for as long as you are holding it.

Now, you might be looking at your newly opened map and thinking to yourself that it doesnt really seem to cover that much land. If you are thinking this, then there is an easy solution with cartography tables. Just put your map in the first slot of the table, and then put some paper in the second slot. By doing this you will zoom out the map a bit, letting you fit more details onto one of them. This can be done up to four times, resulting in an incredibly zoomed-out map that spans thousands of blocks. You will have to manually walk around to fill out all of this newly available mapping area, but once you do youll have a grand map of land in your very own hands.

Required Materials To Make A Map In Minecraft

There are two main components needed to craft maps in Minecraft:

· Paper

Even if you just started playing the game, chances are that youve come across sugar cane in your explorations. They like water so youll find them near lakes, rivers, etc., in different biomes like deserts and swamps.

You craft paper in multiples of three with a one-to-one ratio: one sugar cane makes one piece of paper. But when you use the crafting table, youll use three sugar canes for three pieces of paper.

Crafting Paper Layout

  • Place one piece of sugar cane in the first box of the middle row.
  • Place another piece of sugar cane in the middle box of the middle row.
  • Place the final piece of sugar cane in the last box of the middle row.
  • Drag the resulting three pieces of paper to your inventory.
  • Do this three times and youll end up with nine pieces of paper. You only need eight pieces of paper to craft a map, but you can use the extra ninth piece for a different project.

    · Compass

Youll also need to craft a compass if you dont have one already. Both iron ingots and redstone dust are plentiful near the bottom of the world, so its time to grab a pickaxe. Just make sure that the pickaxe is an iron one or better. Its the only way youll be able to mine redstone for the compass.

Once you have all the components, you have a two-step process ahead of you to make a compass:

    Step One Crafting Ingots

First, youll need to smelt those four iron ore blocks into ingots.

  • Open the furnace menu.

How To Create An Empty Locator Map

The resources you need for the navigation device are four iron ingots and one piece of Redstone dust. You’ll need to roam beneath the surface to find and mine these materials. Once you’ve got them, though, all you need to do is place the Redstone dust in the center of the crafting table and form a diamond shape around it with the iron ingots.

Then with the paper and compass in hand, you’re ready to make the map. Simply put the compass in the middle of the crafting table, and place eight pieces of paper all around it. With this map, you should have no problem navigating the game’s many biomes.

    Orientation Of New Map

It appears that when a player creates a new drawn map, south is on top? East is to the left, West is to the right, and North is the bottom, as the character holds it. Is this correct? If this is the case, should this be noted on this page? In US, North is usually at the top of any RL map, not sure about maps in other countries.—AlfredCloutiertalk 13:31, 6 July 2015

North is up, according to the debug screen. It’s possible Console-edition maps work differently. — Orthotopetalk 15:02, 6 July 2015
Yes, you are correct. Thank you for clearing that up–my spatial sense was off. —AlfredCloutiertalk 17:11, 6 July 2015
