Ray Tracing In Minecraft Completely Changes The Game On Windows 10
Minecraft RTX has been out for a while and I tried it for a few moments on an NVIDIA RTX 2060 SUPER to see what all the fuss was about. The lighting effects were pretty neat in the early teaser worlds, but the GPU wasn’t geared up for 1440p ray tracing.
However, NVIDIA’s latest RTX 30 series promises considerable performance gains with ray tracing. So how will this effect Minecraft RTX? We managed to get our paws on an RTX 3060 and while it’s nowhere near the best graphics card around, we decided to see just how capable the new affordable GPU is.
How To Get The Minecraft Rtx Version
The easiest way to get Minecraft RTX, which is the version that has Ray Tracing for Minecraft, is on Minecraft Windows 10 Edition and the Minecraft Bedrock Edition. All you need to do is to go to the Microsoft Store and search for Xbox Insider Hub. Install and download it if not done already. Upon opening the Xbox Insider Hub, click on menu icon > Insider Content > Games > Minecraft for Windows 10. There will be an option to join, click on it to get the BETA experience for Minecraft for Windows 10 RTX BETA, and then click on Done. Once you do it will automatically apply to your game. Mind you this may delete other worlds that you have so make sure to back them up.
For Minecraft Java Edition you will have to install the Optifine Mod. It is a shader mod that lets you install shaders into Minecraft easily. You can install the ray tracing shaders and use them with Optifine. This isnt true Ray Tracing as it is officially supported by Bedrock and Windows 10 Edition. Once you do have it installed just go to your video settings and under advanced settings, there will be an option to Turn On Ray Tracing. Ray Tracing is not available on Mobile as of now, console well dont have it but there will be a version released in the future.

Now, thats out of the way. Lets talk about ray tracing on Minecraft!
Can I Access My Ray Tracing Enabled Worlds To Minecraft On My Other Hardware Devices
Yes, if you purchase a ray tracing enabled world from the Minecraft Marketplace on Windows and sign in to your free Xbox Live account, you can download that content on your other Minecraft Bedrock devices. However, you will not experience ray tracing features or PBR on non-supported devices.

Can Your Computer Run Ray Tracing In Minecraft
Many will agree that Minecraft is, for the most part, not particularly demanding.
Ray tracing changes that.
To run ray tracing in Minecraft, you will need either an RTX 20-or-30-series GPU or one of AMDs Radeon RX 6000 series GPUs.
If you do not have a GPU from either one of those product lines, then ray tracing is not available to you.
A good graphics card isnt all you need, either at the very least, you will also need 8GB of DDR4 RAM and an Intel Core i5 processor or the equivalent.
If you have the right graphics card, your computer can run Minecraft with ray tracing on while fulfilling those other requirements.
The exact frame rate you experience is heavily dependent on the hardware youre using.
Just as a general rule, though, expect your frame rate to be considerably less than it would be without ray tracing.
Download Ray Tracing From The Official Minecraft Website
For a player to get ray tracing, they have to first download the files. This can be done on the Minecraft Marketplace. The tracing is tailored to fit the game by the team.
It’s free to download.
The tracers are designed for the 1.16.2+ updates, so any prior version will not suffice. Players should also check their graphic drivers.

Ray Tracing Effects Overview
HDRP uses ray tracing to replace some of its screen space effects, shadowing techniques, and Mesh rendering techniques.
- Ray-Traced Ambient Occlusion replaces screen space ambient occlusion with a more accurate, ray-traced, ambient occlusion technique that can use off screen data.
- Ray-Traced Contact Shadows replaces contact shadows with a more accurate, ray-traced, contact shadow technique that can use off screen data.
- Ray-Traced Global Illumination is an alternative to Light Probes and lightmaps in HDRP. It includes a different set of properties for Tier 1 and Tier 2 ray tracing.
- Ray-Traced Reflections is a replacement for screen space reflection that uses a ray-traced reflection technique that can use off-screen data.
- Ray-Traced Shadows replace shadow maps for Directional, Point, and Area Lights.
- Recursive Ray Tracing replaces the rendering pipeline for Meshes. Meshes that use this feature cast refraction and reflection rays recursively.

Note: We advise that you back up your existing worlds, saves and profiles.
If youre having issues and no updates seem to be available for your Minecraft game, do the following:
Keep in mind that Nvidia RTX ray tracing is not supported by all Nvidia GPUs, so this update will not be available for all players.
