How To Construct A Surmounted Dome

    Minecraft Roof Tutorials
  • Generate a diameter list as you would for either a standard or a segmented dome .
  • Insert one or more repeats of the lowermost diameter.
  • Follow the dome construction guidelines for a standard dome, but using the adjusted diameter list.
  • Example 1: The diameter-17 standard dome can be made into a surmounted dome by altering its diameter list to 17, 17, 17, 17, 15, 15, 13, 11, 9, 5 and building accordingly. The more 17’s you add to the list, the greater the height of the mount.

Example 2: In the right-hand image the top three layers of a diameter-22 segmented dome have been used for a surmounted dome. The diameter list was adjusted to 14, 14, 14, 14, 14, 12, 6, producing a surmounted segmented dome.

How To Make A Good Roof In Minecraft

This tutorial lists many common roof types, roughly in ascending order of complexity, and gives examples of each one.

Wikipedia provides additional information and diagrams here, and from that page there are links to other articles with lots more reference images.

Please note that roof terminology is not rigidly defined. Usages vary from place to place, and from one architect or builder to another. One person may describe the alternative mansard roof design shown on these pages as a bonnet roof, for example, and this is understandable given the similarities between the two roof shapes.

Roof designs also vary, so that there may be no discernible difference between a hipped roof with a gable end and a link dormer, or between one persons skillion roof and anothers shed roof. Every element of every roof type may be adjusted, and most roof types can be combined in different ways, producing unlimited numbers of local variants.

    How To Join Roof Sections

While a small building will usually look fine with a simple V-shaped roof, large buildings need multiple roof sections or they will look strange. That means you will need to design multiple roofs for different sections of a large building and join them together. You can use the roof examples from computer-generated village buildings for inspiration, but smoothly joining up roofs at angles to one another takes a little practice.

If you are new to roof construction, a simple building sequence is as follows:

  • Starting with the section that will produce the highest roof, build it as if it was going to become a complete entity without any joins to any other roof sections.
  • Build the second-highest roof in a similar way, but where it meshes with the highest roof, make a suitable join.
  • Roof joins can be done block by block if you prefer, or by dealing with one diagonal at a time.
  • If the roofs to be joined have unusual pitches, merging should be done block by block, because that is much simpler than trying to predict in your head how a complex block pattern will merge along an ascending diagonal line.
  • Continue building roof sections from highest to lowest, merging them with older roof parts as you encounter them, and ignoring lower sections not yet started.
  • When all roof sections are complete, remove any redundant roof blocks. This is generally easier to do from inside the building.

How To Make A Roof And Chimney In Minecraft

First build a house with any wood.

Make a flat ceiling using the same wood that you used for the outside wall.

Then use a different color stairs and place them on the outside edge of the house. After that place any block on the inside of the stairs.

Place the same stairs on the blocks you placed inside the stairs and place any block on the inside of the new stairs.

Do the same thing for the next level of the roof and keep repeating those steps until there are four blocks at the top.

Place the stairs in a square at the top of the roof. It may take a few tries to have the flat part of the stairs not showing from each side.

Go to the front of the house where the front doors are and break four blocks to make a square on the second and third level of the roof.

Make the chimney with bricks and make the chimney a couple of blocks high and flat on the top.

If you don’t want smoke coming out of your chimney, your done! If you do then basically build a stair case three blocks high out of cobwebs.

Break the cobwebs you used to get the cobwebs in the right spot. Hint: the cobwebs should only be touching at the corners.
