Making The Nether Portal

After you have all your materials, you just have to do the following:

  • Place the Obsidian in a three-by-four rectangle frame shape.
  • Use the Flint and Steel while standing in the frame.
  • This will create your Nether Portal. Note that you do not have to place the corner pieces of the portal if you dont want to. The portal will still function without the corners.

Standing in the portal for more than four seconds will take you to the Nether. Be aware that the Nether is filled with dangers, and its recommended that you have some Gold Armor before you head in, or else Piglins will immediately aggro you.

How To Get Flint In Minecraft The Fastest Way

How to Find Flint in Minecraft

Here is the fastest way is to get flint in Minecraft. The way to get flint is by mining gravel. There is a 10% chance for flint to drop when mining a gravel block.

Your chances of getting flint increase when mining with a fortune enchanted tool.

  • Fortune 1 is 14% chance of dropping flint.
  • Fortune 2 is 25% chance of dropping flint.
  • Fortune 3 has a 100% chance of dropping flint.
  • Youve been mining and now you have a bunch of gravel stored up in your boxes. The best way to turn that gravel into flint is by grabbing some stone and making a structure.

Once youve made this go ahead and put your gravel in your off-hand slot and pull out your shovel.

Youre going to press down both mouse buttons at the same time. In this way, you lay a block down and mine it at the exact same time.

If you were standing too far away from the structure this will not work. It was a stack up in front of you. So, get a little bit closer, and then it will work. It will keep mining the same block until you get a piece of Flint in Minecraft.

There is a difference when mining with a normal shovel versus a fortune level 3 enchanted shovel. If you lay down 6 blocks of gravel and mine it with a normal shovel, you might not get any Flint. The reason behind it is that theres only a 10% chance for flint to travel when mining it with a non-enchanted tool.

How To Get Flint In Minecraft

Flint is a mineral obtained from breaking gravel blocks in Minecraft. When a block of gravel is mined, it has a 10% chance of dropping a single piece of flint instead of the gravel block. Using a Fortune-enchanted tool will greatly increase the chance, up to 100% at Fortune III. However, using a tool with Silk Touch or letting the gravel fall on a non-solid block never produces flint.

Another way to acquire flint in Minecraft is through trading with villagers. Villagers with the Fletcher profession will sell 10 pieces of flint for 10 blocks of gravel and Emerald. It’s not a great price to take, but if you’re desperate to find some flint, every way is a great way.

Last but not least, loot chests in the Overworld also have a chance to contain some flint pieces. So, get to looting!

Note: If you’re mining at the bottom of a gravel reservoir, be careful. Gravel has the same falling mechanic as sand. All gravel blocks in a column will fall down if you take out a bottom block.

Other Ways Of Testing For Flint

Another way to test if the rock you have is flint is by striking it with hard steel. If sparks begin to fly after several attempts, then the rock could be flint. When carrying out this test ensure that the edge of the flint is sharp and the stone is not damp.

The sparks are usually produced as a result of small fragments of iron being exposed to air and undergoing rapid oxidation. This is what enables a fire to be lit when you use flint to make a fire.

You should know that aside from flint there are also other types of rocks that are known to produce sparks too such as quartz.

Sound is also another factor that makes flint different from other rocks. When you hit flint against another rock or steel, it will produce a sound that has more of a cling to it. Other rocks produce dull sound that sound more like clung.

If the rock flakes when you hit it, then it could also mean that it is flint. Flint will develop sharp edges when you fracture and break it.

    More Than Just A Torch

    The part where it says…

“If a gravel block falls onto a torch from any height, it will break, but has no chance of creating flint, this does not happen on ladders or any other items”

isn’t entirely true. I have also done this trick with flowers, seeds, sugar cane, and saplings. I’d also “guess” mushrooms too. —DJAikou 06:29, 26 February 2011

How much of it isn’t true? Does dropping it on other things produce flint? I mean – can I create a flint generator by planting a torch on a hopper and loop gravel around through a lift of droppers/dispenser?RandomBlank 09:56, 3 July 2013
A number of partial blocks can break gravel, but AFAIK that never produces flint — it has to be mined, though even bare hands will do. —Mental Mouse 15:21, 3 July 2013

    Chests At Ruined Portals

Fastest way to get Flint in Minecraft

Ruined portals became part of Minecraft with the nether update. These portals can be found near a player’s spawn point or in various locations of the world.

Each of these structures will have a chest on sight with loot for players to use. A typical item in these chests is flint. This is due to needing flint and steel to light the portal.

Some chests can hold nearly everything a player needs to fix the ruined portal, aside from the necessary diamond pickaxe.

The Flint is a commonly occurring item, but unlike over mineral blocks, it does not have a separate block for it. But players can still find them from mining.

Here are some ways of finding it:

    • Mining: Players need to find Gravel blocks and mine them for a chance to obtain a piece of Flint. When mined, Gravels have a 10% chance to drop Flint blocks. The Fortune enchantment at Level III will make this a 100%.
    • Trading: Fletcher Villagers sell 10 pieces of flint for 10 blocks of gravel and and Emerald.
    • Chests: Players can also find them in naturally generated Chests over the world.

Find Flint Next To Ruined Portals

With the 1.16 Nether update, flint can also appear as loot in the chest located by a ruined portal. Since ruined portals can spawn pretty much anywhere, even in the Nether itself, they shouldn’t be too hard to come across in most Minecraft worlds.

The chest by the portal has roughly a 46% chance of having up to four pieces of flint inside.

Collecting The Materials For A Nether Portal

To do this, youll need Obsidian, a very hard block type that can only be harvested using a Diamond or Netherite Pickaxe. Obsidian can be found in mines along pools of lava. You can also make it by pouring a Bucket filled with water over lava.

Note that Obsidian will only be produced by this if the water is poured onto source lava, rather than the lava that spreads from the source block. Pools of source lava can be found within mines, as well as on top of mountains. Simply mine around and keep your eyes out for some areas that have light. This means theres likely lava lighting up the dark caves nearby.

You can also find Obsidian in lava springs in mines, already made and ready for your pickaxe.

Once you get your Obsidian, youll also need a source of fire to make the Nether Portal. The easiest way to do this is to use Flint and Steel, which is made from an Iron Ingot and Flint. Flint is dropped from mining Gravel.
