Minecraft Vr And Vivecraft Are Both Playable With Oculus Rift Headsets
Minecraft VR is an official app made by Mojang, creators of original Minecraft.
It was released in 2016 on Oculus Store, and its still available. Despite it saying that its FREE, it is not free. After a trial, you will still have to pay the sum.
If you already have the Windows 10 edition, then it is free for you.
Vivecraft is a mod for the official Java Minecraft that allows VR devices to play official Minecraft.
Back in the early VR days, we had something called Minecrift. It was the only option to inject VR into Minecraft.
Unfortunately, the mod creators got threatened by Mojang back in 2016 .
Turn on light mode if the text is too dark.
Minecrift shutting down due to request by Mojang from r/oculus
They requested Stella Artois, Darktemp, Mabrowning, Jademalo, and others to shut down the site because of its name conflicting with theirs, and so the modders complied.
That is when other users had no choice but to support Vivecraft instead .
But, why didnt people just download the official version?
Here Are The Methods Of Minecraft You Can Play On Quest:
- Windows 10 release: This is the form of Minecraft that you can buy from the Microsoft store. It has VR abilities incorporated into it and is not difficult to get going, yet this form cant be modded similarly that the Java rendition can.
- Java release: This is the first form of Minecraft that has huge loads of free mods accessible on the web. Its somewhat more convoluted to get this rendition running in VR, as you want to introduce Java, Steam, and Steam VR assuming that you havent effectively done as such, yet the execution is seriously fascinating. For instance, you can mine blocks by actually swinging your regulators.
Minecraft Vr Vs Vivecraft Which One Is Better For Oculus Rift
Thats the main question.
Despite the one having official backing, it doesnt always translate to better VR experience.
Here are the pros and cons:
|In-app purchases||No in-app purchases|
As you see, each version has their own pros and cons. Its up to you to decide what version works best for you.
In summary, if you prefer stability and performance, go with the official Minecraft VR. If you want bigger customization and bigger player base, choose Vivecraft.
My opinion? I prefer Vivecraft. Despite less financial resources that modders have, it suits me better .
I dont really experience that big of an FPS dip, as some . I like the fact that I can switch to seated mode, or that I can install SEUS shader .
Not only that, I like that fact that I have to squat to get to some areas. I am part Russian, so I squat a lot.
As everything is much bigger, I get more immersed. For me, size matters.
But its all up to you, so choose.

Minecraft Comes To Oculus Rift Hands
A new version of the block-building game puts players into an immersive virtual environment, courtesy of Facebooks VR headset
It is the sense of scale that hits you. Despite intentionally blocky visuals, the open-world building game Minecraft has always produced landscapes of great diversity and beauty. To stand on a hillside and see the plains extend out for miles in all directions remains a great pleasure, even four years after its release.
But visiting the game in virtual reality, actually standing among the craggy chasms, being able to look up at the looming mountains, seeing them extend into the sky far above you … this is a new, rather breathtaking experience.
In September Oculus founder Palmer Luckey announced a new version of Minecraft would support his companys VR headset, the Oculus Rift. The original Java version of the game has been unofficially running on the hardware for over a year thanks to the efforts of the fan community, but the results have been mixed. This one is being co-developed by teams at Mojang , Oculus and at Microsofts Redmond campus, using the new Windows 10 iteration of the game, which will be the default going forward.
Windows Vs Java Editions
Originally, Java was the original desktop version of Minecraft and the Windows edition was a port of the pocket edition. Over time, these two versions will merge together into a single copy. Until there, there are a few big diferences.
For starters, the Java edition allows you to play Minecraft multiplayer with people around the world. There are plenty of VR servers to join and play with other players. The Windows edition supports playing in a single room with up to 10 people at a time only.
If you want to play with Minecraft VR mods and enhancements then the Java edition is going to be your pick. The Windows edition does not currently support third party mods outside of a few texture enhancements.
The Windows Edition of Minecraft supports Xbox and other Bluetooth controllers better. You can configure your controller to work best for you and optimize to your liking. This might not be a big factor for virtual reality players, since VR mode activates VR controller support at the same time.
Lastly, the cost of the Java edition is higher at $28 vs $10. When you buy the Java edition then you also get a code to redeem and play the Windows edition too.
Both editions of Minecraft have free VR support included. However, there is also a third party VR mod for Minecraft called Vivecraft.

And Vivecraft After 5 Years
Happy 4th of July, again, to you wonderful people.
I cant believe its been 5 years today since I launched the Vivecraft website, and only a few months more than that since I got into VR and started modding it. Its been fun and rewarding.
I also cant believe how little the VR landscape has really changed in all that time. As novel as VR was when it was new, Im still here with my O.G. Vive , and I really dont see much reason to buy anything newer. Heres hoping the future holds some more innovation.
Anyway, Mojang seems intent on releasing new versions of Minecraft well into the next century, so heres to 70+ more years of Vivecraft!
