What Is The Range Of A Beacon In Minecraft

How To Use A Beacon! The Minecraft Survival Guide (Tutorial Lets Play) [Part 54]

It’s not how long your speed boost will last, but how FAR your speed boost will last.

Beacons are a placeable block in;Minecraft;that buff players with status effects like Speed, Haste, and Strength. However, these status effects only work within a certain range, which varies based on how many resources blocks you have beneath it. We’ve explained how these ranges work below.

How To Use Your ‘minecraft’ Beacon

Once the beacon is activated, you can right-click it to open its menu. In this menu, feed it ingots, diamonds, or emeralds to gain power-ups. The level four pyramid will give you the biggest boosts, but even a small one-level pyramid still gives you access to minor mining and movement speed buffs.

Just note that these buffs don’t cover the entire world. The level one pyramid’s buffs affect everyone in a 20 block radius, the level two pyramid covers a 30 block radius, and so on. Once you leave the coverage area, your buffs will last for about 10 to 15 seconds before fading away.

If you pick a power-up, but later change your mind and want a different one, don’t sweat it: You can always go back and modify the status boost given by the beacon. Just note that you’ll need to give up another ingot, diamond, or emerald.

To enable all the power-ups at the same time, you’ll need to craft six different beacons, and either place them on six pyramids, or a modified 10×11, 8×9, 6×7, and 4×5 level pyramid.

Choose the location of your beacon pyramid wisely, as deconstructing it will be time consuming.

Beacon Will Give 2 Status Effects

Now all nearby players will be given Strength and Regeneration. These status effects will start at 16 seconds, tick down and then reset back to 16 seconds again. So players that stay within the range of the beacon will receive the Strength and Regeneration status effects continuously.

Congratulations, you just learned how to use a beacon to build a 4-tier pyramid structure that gives all nearby players 2 status effects for 16 seconds in Minecraft!

Add Items To The Menu

How to use the Beacon in Minecraft 1.6.4

In the crafting menu, add the 1 nether star, 3 obsidian, and 5 glass to the grid.

You must add the nether star, obsidian, and glass to the grid exactly as shown in the image below. In the 1st row place down the 3 glass. In the 2nd row place down 1 glass in the 1st box, 1 nether star in the 2nd box, and 1 glass in the 3rd box. Lastly, in the 3rd-row place down the 3 obsidian. This is the Minecraft beacon recipe.

Now that you’ve added the items to the grid as described above, you’ll notice a beacon in the box on the right.

How do I use beacons in Minecraft?

Successfully activating a beacon in Minecraft is a pretty big deal. First, you have to kill a Wither and collect a Nether star, second, you have to craft a beacon, and third, you have to create a pyramid on which you place the beacon.

When a beacon is working, it shoots a bright beam of light into the sky, which all players can use as a reference point. The beacon also gives players within a certain radius several power-ups. Heres how to get your beacon going in Minecraft.

Configure The Third Beacon

Add 1 , , or into the empty box. In this tutorial, we’ve added 1 iron ingot.

Then choose Speed as the primary power.

Now, click on Speed II under the secondary power. This is an important step that you MUST do to change the secondary power from Regeneration to Speed II.

And then select Haste as the primary power.

We’ve now configured the third beacon to give the Speed and Haste status effects. Click on the green checkmark button.

Color Mixing With Stained Glass

Color mixing is simple if you know your basic color theory.

If you’re unfamiliar with basic color mixing, the basics are:

Primary colors: Red, Yellow, Blue

Secondary colors: Purple , Orange , Green

If you have say, a blue block and place a red block over it, the resulting beam will look purple. If you placed a white block over those two, you would get a light purple. If you place a black block instead, you would get a darker shade of purple.

  • From my experience, it’s better to use Red/Yellow/Blue color mixing than Red/Green/Blue…as you can see in the example, the R/Y/B color mix is much brighter and more visible.

How To Fix Minecraft Beacon Not Working

How To Use a Beacon in Minecraft! Tutorial! #10

A beacon is a useful block in Minecraft. It can boost up a players ability to survive by giving him buffs. However, most players dont know how to properly utilize a beacon. As a result, they cant get the beacon to work properly.

Luckily, we will be taking our time to tell you how you can fix your beacon not working in Minecraft. Using this article, we will be mentioning some troubleshooting methods that can help you get your beacon working. So, without wasting any time further, lets get started!

  • Make Sure the Beacon Has a Clear View of the Sky
  • The most important aspect of a beacon is that it needs to be put right under the sky in order to work properly. This means that you simply cant keep it indoors. Unless it does not shine beneath the sky, it wont work at all.

So, you need to make sure the beacon is placed outside, in the skys reach. If you want to keep the beacon indoor then you can do so by placing a leaf block above your indoor. Now, it should be able to shine through the roof.

  • Make Sure You Place the Beacon on a Pyramid
  • Another reason why your beacon might not be working as it should maybe because of you not placing it properly on a beacon. A beacon will only shine when placed on top of a pyramid. Unfortunately, its not as easy as just putting it there.

    The Bottom Line

But thanks to this article, you should not have any issues while making a beacon. By the end, your beacon should shine just like it should give you buffs.

Move The Beacon To Your Inventory

Simply drag the beacon down to your inventory so you can use it.

That’s it! You now have a beacon. A Minecraft beacon is a mechanism block that shoots a light beam upward and provides status effects like Jump Boost, Haste, Regeneration, Resistance, Speed or Strength to those players that are nearby.

How To Make A Beacon Glow In Minecraft

Now youve crafted your beacon, its not as obvious as planting your new luxury item on the ground and hoping for the best. Your Minecraft beacon is a lot more demanding than that, it is made from the remains of the most difficult boss in Minecraft, after all.

Youll need to create a pyramid for your beacon to sit atop. This is the only way to activate your Minecraft beacon, and its /still/ not as simple as plonking down some blocks. There are different levels of pyramids and youll need to use either iron, gold, emerald, or diamond to create your pyramid, it doesnt matter which you use, or how you place these blocks, unless youre going for a certain aesthetic.

Become the envy of all the Steves, with our guide to crafting a Minecraft beacon

Creating your first Minecraft beacon? Or just looking into the possibility of how to craft this rare and valuable item. A beacon in Minecraft will set you back a pretty penny in resources and time and there are a ton of materials youll need to obtain which sadly wont be as easy as sprinting around the world and mining a couple of blocks no.

Crafting a Minecraft beacon is an incredibly lengthy process, but the rewards are certainly worth it. Youll be granted status effects such as speed, jump boost, haste, regeneration, resistance, and strength to yourself and nearby players. When the beacon in Minecraft activates it will emit a beam of light into the sky which can be seen from far away, a flashy sign that youre the new owner of this dazzling and sought after item.

Heres everything you need to know about Minecraft beacons including the recipe to make them, how to get all of the items required to build a beacon, steps for setting them up, and the powers you can expect to wield once your beacon is up and running.

    Using A Minecraft Beacon

    Minecraft Beacon setup

To activate the beacon, players must place it atop a pyramid made from blocks of iron, gold, diamond, Netherite, or emerald. There are four possible sizes a beacon pyramid can reach, each with a different sized layer of blocks: 3X3, 5X5, 7X7, and 9X9. Each of these layers must be stacked on top of each other in that order, with 3X3 being on the top and 9X9 being at the bottom. Of course, the beacon must be placed as the cherry on top in the center of the 3X3 blocks. Also, the 3X3 layer is necessary for the beacon to function at all! Here are three of the potential uses beacons have:

    Granting Status Buffs

    • This is the primary function of beacons. If players interact with it by pressing their use button, theyll open up a menu where they can offer it materials, the same ones used to build its pyramid, in exchange for a powerup of their choice. These include haste, which improves mining and attack speed, jump boost, speed, strength, or resistance. Pyramids with all 4 layers will also grant access to health regeneration as a powerup. The more layers a pyramid has, the longer the duration of the powerup and the greater the area the beacon effects.

    A Light Source

    • The pillar of light the beacon creates brightens up the surrounding area and can serve as a source of light. Further, it can be seen from a great distance away, so players can use it as a landmark to help find their way back home, or wherever they chose to place the beacon.

    Finding A Nether Star

  • Get to the Nether by making a Nether Portal.
  • In the Nether, mine at least four blocks of soul sand. These are gray-brown blocks found on the ground throughout the Nether.
  • Collect three wither skeleton skulls. Wither skeletons are difficult enemies found in fortresses throughout the Nether, and have a 2.5 percent chance to drop a skull when killed.

Wither skeletons are harder to kill than regular skeletons. William Antonelli/Insider

  • In either the Nether or Overworld we’d recommend the Overworld, since there’s more room to run around stack the soul sand in a “T” shape, and place the three skulls on top of the sand. Once you’ve done it, run away.
  • In a few seconds, the Wither will spawn and create a massive explosion around itself. Once the explosion fades, fight and kill it. How you do that is up to you, but be careful.

The Wither will take a few moments to fully spawn once it does, it’ll explode. William Antonelli/Insider

  • Once the Wither is killed, it’ll drop a Nether Star.
  • Part 1 Of 3: Crafting The Beacon

  • 1Know the layout of a beacon. A beacon is, at minimum, a three-by-three, one-block high square base of at least iron blocks with a beacon unit placed on top of it. If you want to enhance your beacon’s power and range, you’ll need an additional square base of five by five, seven by seven, and nine by nine per power level, respectively.
  • Creating a beacon can be a tedious process, since you need a bare minimum of 81 iron ingots to craft the base alone.
  • 2Gather the necessary materials. To craft a beacon, you will need the following items:
  • At least 81 iron ore – Mine a lot of iron orewhich is the grey stone with orange spotswith a stone pickaxe or better. You can use emeralds, gold, or diamonds instead, but these minerals are far rarer than iron and they have no different effect on the beacon.
  • Three blocks of obsidian – Obsidian is formed by water hitting lava from above. You can find it deep in caves. You will need a diamond pickaxe to mine obsidian.
  • Five blocks of sand – You’ll use this to make glass.
  • Nether Star – Kill the Wither and pick up the star that it drops. The Wither is exceedingly difficult to spawn and kill for lower-level players, so make sure you’re prepared.
  • Fuel – Wood planks or coal will work fine. You’ll need this for your furnace when smelting the glass and iron bars.
  • In Minecraft PE, tap the top square, tap the iron ore icon, tap the bottom square, and then tap your fuel.
  • In Minecraft PE, just tap the beacon icon, then tap 1 x.
  • How To Use Your Minecraft Beacon

Once the beacon is activated, you can right-click it to open its menu. In this menu, feed it ingots, diamonds, or emeralds to gain power-ups. The level four pyramid will give you the biggest boosts, but even a small one-level pyramid still gives you access to minor mining and movement speed buffs.

Just note that these buffs dont cover the entire world. The level one pyramids buffs affect everyone in a 20 block radius, the level two pyramid covers a 30 block radius, and so on. Once you leave the coverage area, your buffs will last for about 10 to 15 seconds before fading away.

If you pick a power-up, but later change your mind and want a different one, dont sweat it: You can always go back and modify the status boost given by the beacon. Just note that youll need to give up another ingot, diamond, or emerald.

To enable all the power-ups at the same time, youll need to craft six different beacons, and either place them on six pyramids, or a modified 10×11, 8×9, 6×7, and 4×5 level pyramid.

Choose the location of your beacon pyramid wisely, as deconstructing it will be time consuming.

    How To Build A Pyramid

What to do with a Beacon in minecraft

A beacon cannot simply be placed anywhere it must be placed atop a pyramid for it to work properly. There also cannot be any blocks between the top of the pyramid where the beacon sits and the open sky. The pyramid must be constructed from blocks of iron, gold, diamond, or emerald. The type of power-up available, the effect range, and the strength of the power-ups depends on how many levels the pyramid has.

You can create a pyramid for one beacon, or you can create a pyramid for multiple beacons.

    How To Build A Beacon

One of the things youll need to have at the ready is a lot of mineral blocks to put together your pyramid that serves as a base. You can use iron, gold, emerald, diamond, or netherite in any combination for the pyramid base as the effect it has on the beacon is purely aesthetic and so long as it meets the criteria above, you really dont have to worry so much about which you use. What Ive laid out here are two examples of how much youll need in terms of mineral blocks to put the platforms together for the lowest number of beacon units and the highest.

    A Single Beacon Pyramid

    5×5, 3×3, beacon
    3 7×7, 5×5, 3×3, beacon
    4 9×9, 7×7, 5×5, 3×3, beacon
    Multiple Beacons Pyramid

    Level
    6×7, 4×5, beacons
    3 8×9, 6×7, 4×5, beacons
    4 2196 10×11, 8×9, 6×7, 4×5, beacons

Once you have the platform set, what youll need to do is craft the beacon unit and you do so with 5 Glass Blocks, 3 Obsidian Blocks, and a Nether Star. This will give you a beacon unit that you can place at the top of your platform. Again, most layouts either use one, four, or six, but you can use any amount in between. Once you place the beacon unit, youll know its working when it extends a beam up to the sky. When you see that, you can move on to the next step.

    The Five Primary Powers

    • Speed I: Increased movement speed
    • Haste I: Increased mining and attack speed
    • Resistance I: Decreased nearly all incoming damage
    • Jump Boost I: Increased jumping distance and height
    • Strength I: Increased melee damage

    The Secondary Powers

    How To Craft A Beacon

The crafting recipe for constructing a beacon is relatively simple: a dome of 5 glass blocks, a base of 3 obsidian blocks, and a single Nether star nestled in the middle. Sounds easy enough, but crafting a beacon first requires that you, well, actually have all of these resources. The former ingredients are easy to come by, but the latter? You have to summon and defeat the Wither,, which has its own process and requirements to complete.

The Wither is one of the big bosses in Minecraft, right alongside the Ender Dragon. When you defeat it, it drops a single Nether star, which will allow you to craft a single beacon. Want more beacons? Beat more Withers. It’s not a fight to be taken lightly, however, so make sure you’re duly prepared.
