Is Minecraft Story Mode Coming Back

What Is Minecraft: Story Mode

Minecraft Story Mode! Episode 1- #2 – EDUARDO COME BACK!

Minecraft: Story Mode was a series of point-and-click episodes for players to experience that was initially released in the later months of 2015.

The game was released over the end of 2015 and into the early months of 2016, dropping for twelve different platforms over that span of time.

Minecraft: Story Mode was released first for Microsoft and macOS products, then progressed to releases for WiiU, Apple TV, and eventually Xbox 360 and Xbox 1, Apple IOS devices, Playstation 3 and 4, and the Nintendo Switch.

It was a decision and QTE based game that guided players through set paths and dialogue to complete.

The main game mechanics were clicking through the provided areas to discover hidden oddities, follow specific pathways, and make spur of the moment actions to complete the levels.

The main aspects of Minecraftsuch as exploration, crafting, building, and combatwere all included in the game in their own ways, despite how they differed from the original Minecraft gameplay.

It eventually inspired a Netflix animated television show that echoed the levels of the game, and that too ended with just one season.

Grab It Now If You Want It

Another title from Telltale Games back catalog will be disappearing this year. Minecraft: Story Mode, the spin-off of Mojangs insanely popular craft-a-thon, will be leaving digital marketplaces on June 25, 2019. All platforms and both seasons will be affected, which includes an insane amount of legacy consoles. Story Mode had a home on PS3, Wii U, and Xbox 360 along with mobile devices and current-gen hardware, so theres potentially a lot of customers that might be losing access to these games.

In a message over on the official Minecraft website, publisher Mojang insists that players download all remaining episodes prior to them being delisted. Im not sure if that is just a precautionary step, or if the servers on each platform will actually cease to host the titles for users that already own them. This isnt completely unprecedented as a few games on Xbox 360 can no longer be downloaded regardless of ownership. If you arent sure you if you own any or have them downloaded, check now.

Minecraft: Story Mode Series Coming From Mojang And Telltale Games

Major collaboration brings narrative-driven content to the block-based universe

Well, this is huge: Mojang and Telltale Games have teamed up to create Minecraft: Story Mode, an episodic, narrative-focused game series that will debut in 2015 on various platforms.

Telltale has established itself as a master of taking established media franchises and building brilliant adventure game series out of them, especially in the last couple of years. The Walking Dead is its most notable creation thus far, but The Wolf Among Us is also great, and the just-launched Game of Thrones and Tales from the Borderlands have both been well received thus far.

According to Mojang, the game isnt designed to create any kind of official narrative for Steve, the ambiguous Minecraft lead, or deliver an origin story of the block-centric world. It will be a cool game, says Mojangs Owen Hill.

And Telltale is apparently engaging top members of the Minecraft community to ensure that the series feels true to world not only as Mojang envisioned it, but as players interpret it. Also, no word yet on what the gameplay will be like, although Telltales games are all pretty similar in design: theyre point-and-click, dialogue-heavy affairs with your story decisions affecting later events.

Closure Of Telltale Games

In November 2018, Telltale Games began the process of closing down the studio due to financial issues. Most of its games started to become delisted from digital storefronts, including Minecraft: Story Mode. According to GOG.com, they had to pull the title due to “expiring licensing rights”. The Minecraft team stated that even for those that had purchased the titles before their delisting, the episodes would no longer be downloadable after June 2019. Because the Xbox Live Marketplace does not allow for removing games from sale while at the same time allowing existing owners to download the game, each episode of the game’s Xbox 360 version was repriced to $100 in the few weeks ahead of the delisting to deter users from purchasing them.

Minecraft: Story Mode received “mixed or average reviews” from critics, with the Nintendo Switch version earning a weighted average of 67 based on 5 critics.

Youll Still Be Able To Download Minecraft: Story Mode If You Bought It On Gog

Minecraft: Story Mode will continue to be available for download if you purchased it on GOG.

Minecraft: Story Mode alongside many other Telltale games has been removed from sale on digital storefronts after the developers closure. Last week, Minecraft proprietor Mojang put out a statement which suggested that the Story Mode series would no longer be available for download after June 25, even if youd already purchased them.

It seems that GOG will be an exception, as a forum post explains that in our publisher agreements we make sure that delisted games remain available to users who bought them. Mojangs original statement mentions no specific PC storefronts, only listing out the hardware platforms the game has released on.

The GOG post continues, Minecraft: Story Mode, as well as others on GOG.COM, will be available for those customers who purchased them before and will be downloadable both through GOG GALAXY client and DRM-free installers. Feel free to download it and play anytime you want. If any technical issues appear, you can contact GOG Support directly and well do our best to help you.

Mojangs statement was worded just vaguely enough to be confusing, but the message urged customers who have purchased either or both seasons of Minecraft: Story Mode on any platform to download any remaining episodes before the deadline this month.

Minecraft: Story Mode : Will Netflix Adapt More Episodes

With the first season of Minecraft: Story Mode now fully available on Netflix, many will be wondering whether the story will continue with season 2. The answer for season 2 is likely but looking further ahead the shows future is in jeopardy.

Lets take a quick look at how we got to where we are. Minecraft: Story Mode is essentially a port of the original video game that released back in October 2015.

It comes to Netflix as the service enters into interactive storytelling, something it introduced a couple of years back and will continue producing content for into the future with Black Mirror the next scheduled title to incorporate the technology.

Minecraft: Story Mode was originally developed by Telltale Games who went defunct earlier this year. The cancellation saw many of the studios projects canceled including the Stranger Things video game planned.

Left behind were a skeleton crew to finish up season 1 of Minecraft. The first three episodes landed on November 27th with the final two added on December 3rd. There were another 3 episodes in the original first season including A Portal to Mystery, Access Denied and A Journeys End?.

Future of Minecraft Story Mode on Netflix

Although weve had no announcement of more episodes, we cant make an educated guess that the remaining episodes of season 1 and season 2 are unlikely to head to Netflix.

Will there be a third season?

Minecraft: Story Mode was an experimental point-and-click, narrative-driven version of the popular sandbox game, Minecraft.

Telltale Games has since shut down, which caused the end of Minecraft: Story Mode, and there seems to be no anticipated return or revival of the series.

Here is a summarizing look at Minecraft: Story Mode, what it was, why it collapsed, and why players around the world had divided opinions about the game before and after its release.

How To Play Minecraft Story Mode

Well, a lot of players have been asking around about how to play Minecraft Story Mode. We will be addressing that in this segment.

Unfortunately, we have to inform our readers that Minecraft story mode has been officially discontinued and players cannot download it from the official website of Minecraft.

After being withdrawn from the official shop, Minecraft: Story Mode has solely been accessible to users who had acquired the gamebeforehand or those who utilized third-party sites or programs to download the game.

However, there are some mentions of getting Minecraft Story mode on Steam unlocked. Players could try other third-party apps offering the episodes of the story mode.

Whether or not Jesse and his companions adventures will continue is still unknown. However, players of the action-adventure game may cling to their expectations as long as Microsoft and Mojang retain control of the games intellectual property rights.

Why Did Minecraft: Story Mode Collapse

Ultimately, the collapse of Minecraft: Story Mode came down to the shutting down of Telltale Games.

Telltale Games was co-creating this new point-and-click series alongside Mojang, and the project could not continue without their help.

Point-and-click adventure games were the crux of the Telltale Games franchise, and they had created plenty before for other large franchises such as “Tales from the Borderlands” for the Borderlands game series.

However, the game was seen as quite controversial in the eyes of the Minecraft community for multiple reasons and was not backed as heavily as most Minecraft-stemmed projects are.

Will Minecraft Story Mode: Season 3 Ever Happen

Minecraft: Story Mode won the hearts of many players when it released in 2015, as did its sequel, Season 2, in 2017. But it’s been nearly two years now without any news of a third season. Will Minecraft Story Mode: Season 3 ever happen? Will we see these beloved characters in a story-driven Minecraft game ever again?

The odds are not very good.

Minecraft: Story Mode was developed by the now-defunct Telltale Games, best known for bringing The Walking Dead to consoles. Telltale laid off much of its staff on Sept. 21, 2018, in a move that not only left many talented developers without jobs, but also left The Walking Dead: The Final Season in limbo. Fortunately, some happy news came along for The Walking Dead‘s farewell. Skybound Entertainment reclaimed the license and brought some ex-Telltale staff on to finish the game.

But things didn’t end so blissfully for other Telltale properties, including Minecraft: Story Mode.

A port of Story Mode was being planned for Netflix, but that was canceled. Then Telltale titles started disappearing from digital storefronts. Finally, this past June, Minecraft: Story Mode was pulled down, too. There is now no way to buy Story Mode or Story Mode: Season 2 digitally. And because Telltale Games is now dead and gone, the likelihood of the property making a reappearance much less getting a third season is slim to none.
