When one thinks of an open-world creative game, Minecraft is the first name that comes into our mind. How To Install A Resource Pack In Minecraft

While shaders make Minecraft look pleasing, resource packs are an additional way to change a theme or aesthetic of a Minecraft world. Because resource packs are separate than shaders, you dont need to install any mods, which makes them so versatile and vanilla-game friendly.

What is the difference between a resource pack and texture pack?

While many use both terms to mean the same thing, there is a fundamental difference between the two. A texture pack is used for 1.6.1 and earlier versions of the game 1.6.1, and they only changed the in-game textures. Resource packs were added in after 1.6.1, and allow players to change sounds, music, and particle effects. They also can modify blocks, items, and entity textures.

Lets get into our guide on how to install resource packs to Minecraft!

Before moving into the actual installation of resource or texture packs, its important to know where your Minecraft game is installed. To do so, follow these steps:

  • Open the Minecraft Launcher.
  • Make sure the launch option is the game version you plan on using.
  • Go to the Installations tab at the top of the window.
  • Hover your mouse over the game version you want to find and click the folder icon to the right of the Play button. See the image above for help.
  • Locate the resource pack folder. This is where youll place any resource pack you want to use.
  • Best Cartoon Or Cute Minecraft Texture Packs

With performance and graphics out of the way, lets now look at some fun cartoonish texture packs for Minecraft. The whole point of these packs is to make your game look cute and more enjoyable.

    7. Rodrigos Pack

This soft-styled texture pack not only makes your world a lot rubber-style but also provides a performance boost with its minimal blocks. Rodrigos Pack has 8 x 8 blocks, but you wont feel them lowering your quality. The designers have focused on keeping the Minecraft feel intact while adding a cartoonish layer on top. This makes it one of the most fun packs to play with a performance boost.

    8. Pastel Craft

One of the best Minecraft texture packs, Pastel Craft focuses on colors and cartoonish effects but ensures that each block is identifiable individually. Many minimal or cartoon-based packs tend to oversimplify blocks so much that you have to put in extra effort to identify them. This pack is one of many limited ones which focuses on keeping quality high while using pixelation for cartoonish effect.

    9. Hafen

Hafen, when closely translated from German, means Pottery. And this texture pack gives your world a pottery clay-like look. It has a heavy focus on looks and the color interaction that you notice in the way each color fits with the other in this pack.

    Players Joining Your Server

When players join the server, they will now see a message prompting them to download the Resource Pack, if they wish. If they answer yes, they will see a red progress bar as it downloads, and then a branded Mojang screen will appear for few moments. After it disappears, all the textures will be changed to the ones from the Resource Pack.

    Minecraft Pvp Texture Packs

Minecraft PvP texture packs are a bit different from the usual resource packs. Unlike other visual overhauls that prioritize a certain look, a PvP texture pack has different goals. Many PvP packs will be lower resolution to make sure your performance and FPS stay as high as possible. You’ll also find that PvP texture packs focus on reticles that are easy to see, making swords smaller so they don’t block as much of your view, and helping distinguish between ore blocks better. The PvP packs down below each do most of those things, but if you want a quick boost to your PvP play you can try out smaller additions like Short Swords, Clear Hotbar, and Clear GUI.

    Editing The Serverproperties File

Before editing your server.properties file, you will need to prepare the URL you now have for direct download. The critically important step here, is to edit the 0 at the end of the URL and replace it with a 1, so that it says ?dl=1. If the zero 0 is not changed to a one 1, it won’t actually download the file automatically when Minecraft accesses the URL. For example, if your Resource Pack URL is https://www.dropbox.com/s/< RandomID> /ResoucePack.zip?dl=0, you would use https://www.dropbox.com/s/< RandomID> /ResoucePack.zip?dl=1 in your server.properties file.

If using the NodePanel, our custom solution for hosting game servers, you can set the Resource Pack configuration options via the “Game Settings” page and “Gamemode” tab:

If you’re hosting elsewhere, or prefer to edit the files manually, look for the following lines in your server.properties file:

    resource-pack=resource-pack-sha1=

Paste the Resource Pack URL from Dropbox into the resource-pack line, after the equals sign. As mentioned above, ensure the URL has been tweaked to allow direct download with dl=1.

    resource-pack=https://www.dropbox.com/s/< RandomID> /ResourcePack.zip?dl=1

If you’ve generated a SHA-1 hash, you can include that here as the resource-pack-sha1 value. For example, if your generated SHA-1 hash for the previous Resource Pack was cf23df2207d99a74fbe169e3eba035e633b65d94, you would use the following in your server.properties:

Adding A Resource Pack To A Minecraft Server

Resource Packs/Texture Packs can change the look of everything in Minecraft, including the items, creatures , and even the hotbar and inventory itself.

You can change Resource Packs whenever you want, and there are lots of really cool ones to explore with some truly unique looks and art styles – see the bottom of this article for some examples of different Resource Packs!

In order to use a Resource Pack on a Minecraft server, it must first be hosted on a website, so that each player who joins the Minecraft server can be prompted to download the Resource Pack. The Minecraft server itself is not capable of hosting the files, and an external location must be used.

Coming from Minepack.net? We unfortunately had to sunset that solution to focus on other aspects of our service, but following this article should allow you to host your own Minecraft Resource Pack for free.

One of the simplest and cheapest methods of doing this is to simply upload the Resource Pack to any kind of file sharing site that provides public and direct file downloads. Many of these file sharing sites are free, and require only simple downloads or a free account to get started. As long as the site will give you a URL that points to the file, it can be used for hosting your Minecraft Resource Pack.

Some examples of file sharing sites include:

    • Dropbox
    • OneDrive
    • iCloud

    Temporary Installation For Servers

Very different from the other two methods, some Minecraft servers have built in resource packs specifically for that that server. If this is the case, you do not need to do anything beforehand, or either of the above methods if all you want is that singular pack. Instead, load p the server in question and you should be prompted to choose whether or not you want to load in the servers custom Resource Pack. Say yes in order to activate it, and it should load every time you enter that server from an added server, or prompt you each time via direct connect.

How To Turn Resource Packs On And Off While Playing

  • Press Esc to open the menu, then click “Options.”
  • This will open the same resource pack folder you opened through the game’s main menu. Here, you can enable or disable resource packs, and open your computer’s resource pack folder.
