Minecraft Amethyst Clusters and Amethyst Buds grow on Budding Amethyst blocks. You can recognize them by the cross-shape on their sides. Note that you cant mine Budding Amethyst, but you can come back to find newly-spawned Amethyst Buds.;

The other solid amethyst block is called a Block of Amethyst, and can only be mined with a pickaxe. This block is purely decorative, and cannot grow Amethyst Buds. You can use Amethyst Shards to create more Minecraft Blocks of Amethyst if you want to use them as a building material.

Crafting With Amethyst In Minecraft

There are currently three crafting recipes which require amethysts as ingredients:

  • Block of Amethyst: A decorative block made from four amethyst shards. Basically you’re sticking a bunch of shards back together to recreate the interior layer of the geode. Nice if you want to recreate a geode cave for aesthetic purposes .
  • Tinted Glass: Combining four amethyst shards with one piece of glass yields two tinted glass blocks. These are visually opaque but behave in-game as though they are completely light-proof. They are not airtight, unlike regular glass.
  • Spyglass: Combining an amethyst shard with two copper ingots creates a Spyglass. This item can be used to view and zoom in on far-away locations. There are three Advancements associated with this item, granted for looking at a Parrot, a Ghast, and an Ender Dragon through the spyglass.

Can You Grow Amethyst In Minecraft

Amethyst is a unique resource in Minecraft because its a rock that comes in two variations. Theres the standard Amethyst block and a budding Amethyst block. The budding Amethyst rock produces Amethyst buds. These slowly grow and eventually become Amethyst clusters, which you can then mine for Amethyst shards and use to create several useful tools and items in the game. Its important to note you cannot grow Amethyst, but learning about how it grows is vital to farm this resource for Amethyst shards regularly.

Although the budding Amethyst is slowly growing Amethyst clusters, you cannot influence these clusters in any way. You cannot mine the bud Amethyst block and move it elsewhere. If you find an Amethyst geode, youre likely going to find several bud Amethyst blocks and regular ones inside.

The bud Amethyst blocks will have a small crystal growing out of them. There are two stages of the crystal, with the first having three separate appearances as it slowly develops. On the final appearance, itll develop into a full crystal, becoming an Amethyst cluster. If you mine this from an Amethyst bud, youll receive several shards, and if you leave that block alone, eventually, another Amethyst crystal should spawn. Because you cannot influence the growth pattern of this rock in fashion, youre better off marking down its location to farm later.

Due to only growing in certain geodes, you are unable to make your own Amethyst farms, meaning youve got to get it from the caves to obtain fresh supplies. However, those geodes are full of fun, as running over, placing, and mining Amethyst produces a pleasant musical tune. Occasionally, budding Amethyst blocks can grow on small Amethyst budstechnically outside of the geodesbut theres only a 20% chance of this happening, so its quite a rare occurrence.

Amethyst first debuted as a block at Minecraft Live 2020, thought it didnt release in-game until the recent Caves and Cliffs update. Previously, it was accessible in the experimental game-mode of the Bedrock edition, but only now can players on Java and Bedrock actually experience it.

In other news, Axolotls are now in Minecraft, and you can breed them to produce more.
