As COVID-19 concerns prompt school closures around the world, many educators are turning to remote learning to keep students engaged. To help teachers and students stay connected to the classroom, Minecraft: Education Edition is now available through June 2020 for all educators and learners who have a valid Office 365 Education account. We have also compiled a special Minecraft remote learning toolkit, which includes more than 50 lessons, STEM curriculum and project-based learning activities so educators can use Minecraft: Education Edition with their students whether they are in school, at home or in another remote learning environment.

Features like classroom multiplayer allow students to collaborate on projects in their Minecraft worlds, building, planning, learning and even chatting as they work together. When they are ready to document their work and submit their projects, students can use tools like the Camera and Book & Quill to take screenshots, write about their work and export their in-game portfolios as PDF.

Distance learning requires students to be engaged in content in news ways, explains educator and Minecraft certified trainer Becky Keene. As they work remotely, they need to have activities and environments that motivate them to learn. Minecraft supports almost any content area, and students can show me their learning without missing a beat!

To Play Minecraft: Education Edition Each User Requires A License That Allows Them To Sign

To play Minecraft: Education Edition , each user requires a license that allows them to sign-in to the game on any supported platform. An IT admin will need to assign licenses to appropriate teachers or students through the Microsoft Store for Education.

Whether licenses are purchased as part of a larger Office 365 subscription or individually, licenses are still managed via the Microsoft Store for Education. Unless you have the new M365 unified SKU they can be assigned via admin center.

For information on purchasing M:EE, see Licensing for Minecraft Education Edition.

M:EE licenses are managed through the Microsoft Store for Education. In order to access the Store, your school must have an Office 365 Education tenant and Office 365 accounts for teachers and students. Once an account is assigned a license, a user can use that account to play the game on any machine that is on a supported platform. For more information, see Office 365 Education and Minecraft: Education Edition.

    How-to manage licenses

There are several options to manage licenses for users at your school. The following describes each option, starting with where to view your available licenses.

Why Minecraft: Education Edition Is Microsoft’s Most Important Video Game

Microsoft Education – Minecraft: Education Edition and Remote Learning

    I have two younger brothers.

All three of us began our working lives as video game testers at the same company.

I always loved the writing, so I found my way from there into journalism. My middle brother discovered a knack for management, so ended up pursuing a career in business development. Meanwhile my youngest sibling was fascinated by the science and coding of games. He’s just found his first programming job at a major studio.

It’s the latter Dring that has had the most challenging of the career paths. Not only is computer science a difficult subject to master, you’re simply not taught it at school. I learned writing at a young age , but my brother had to teach himself the basics of coding, and strolled into university with little prior understanding of what he was about to study.

In the UK, Computer Science has recently been worked into the school curriculum, which is good news for our industry. But it’s hard to implement, because first you need to teach the teachers they weren’t taught programming at school, either.

That’s why what Microsoft has been doing with Minecraft is so important. The Education Edition has been used in schools to teach a broad range of subjects, but with the introduction of Code Builder this month, it’s now a means for teaching kids to code – even from as young as six years-old.

And of course, this coding education will hopefully create a new generation of programmers and game designers.

Whats The Curriculum Standard In Minecraft

While programs like Mathematica and TuxMatch focus on basic and niche learning, Minecraft Education Edition considers a comprehensive curriculum standard. Its worth mentioning that the platforms training resources are based on ACARA, 2017 . The program comes with a full-fledged, downloadable starter kit for educators that reviews the basics of the app.

Using the toolkit, educators are able to effectively and efficiently teach a wide range of subjects and topics. Moreover, since a strong community backs the program, educators can engage with fellow teachers for tips on classroom management, lessons, and other forms of guidance. The simple interface makes the program easy to use and navigate.

In order to ensure ease-of-use, Minecraft Education Editions official website offers downloadable worlds, realms, and lesson plans. Collectively, these help teachers integrate the sandbox game into the traditional classroom environment. As mentioned earlier, the Minecraft Professional Learning Community proves to be a great place for troubleshooting ideas and other information. Here, you can even participate in discussions, save resources, earn badges, and submit lesson plans.

Not Bad But A Few Issues And Questions : + Some Extra Stuff

So sometimes like most of the reviews it wont let me join other peoples world or I cant join their world, to make it work my friend had to reset her whole iPad, like remove all the data and stuff, but shes fine with it. And why does the updating go so slow??? I think its unfair in my opinion, the other people did pay for normal Minecraft, but I just think it should update a tad bit faster, not as fast as normal Minecraft tho. And I saw a video of a shorts creator and the title was Is bedrock or Java better? By camman18, and if camman does see this now I know not to say canman18 XD. And he said both are good and was like At least were not in education edition! I mean I would be upset in this edition as well sorry- So yeah! DEVELOPER RESPONSE PLEASE AHAHAHAHHAHAH-

Minecraft: EE also provides a route to entry level coding, she adds. For example, when Tindles class was using Minecraft: EE to build a scaled solar system they were able to use Minecraft co-ordinates to calculate the diameter of each planet and its distance from the sun, and then use some basic coding to construct the planets.

The kids were doing all the maths for how wide, how big the planets need to be, how far from the sun and the coding around building spheres, she says.

Minecraft: EE assignments, she says, often allow students to shine who might be less forthcoming in more traditionally structured lessons and empowers them to also support their peers.

Tindle adds that they also learn soft skills such as communications, collaboration and how to fairly divide tasks in a group project.

Students also have to take on board the ethics associated with using Minecraft: EE. We always set some quite strong rules we dont want people to be blowing things up or randomly destroying things. So we tell them dont set off a million blocks of TNT, or spawn 50 million chickens. When something does happen then we get the community to fix it.

Acknowledging that parents can sometimes perceive Minecraft as a game rather than an educational tool, Tindle says that with Minecraft: EE When they look at what the kids have done, they really quickly see this is fantastic.
