Usage Of Detector Rails

A detector rail can power 4 adjacent blocks and 2 blocks below it when a minecart, occupied or empty, is on it. This makes it possible to activate powered rails inline without redstone torches or wiring.

A detector can be used to activate adjacent powered rails. However, if the detector is used to activate more than two or three powered rails, the rails deactivate before the minecart reaches them, bringing the cart to an immediate stop.

One-way powered rail lines can be created by placing a detector rail before a powered rail. This way, occupied carts are boosted only if they are traveling the proper direction. Carts going the “wrong” way come to a stop because the powered rail is inactive.

Although inefficient, A two-way rail line can be created by placing detector rails on either side of the powered rail.

Alternately, placing powered and detector rails on a 1×1 slope does not propel a cart more than 3 blocks upward if there is not enough initial momentum. The cart loses too much speed on the incline, meaning it can’t make it from the detector rail to the powered rail before the powered rail returns to the “off” state. If the cart is in a train of two or more carts, the last cart in the train becomes stuck instead.

How To Use Powered Rails In Minecraft

Powered rails are different from regular rails. If they are not powered your minecart will grind to a halt. If they are powered your minecart will get a speed boost. To power your rails place a redstone torch next to the rails or a torch just beneath the block the rail is on top of.

A torch will power any adjacent rails up to nine rails.

To make a railway go quickly make sure you have no bends as this will slow your minecart down, and place powered rail all throughout your minecart track to ensure you can reach top velocity.

Each time you complete this recipe you will make six powered rails. Each golden ingot will yield one powered rail, but you will need six total in order to make the rails to begin with.

The recipe calls for one stick so chop down a log and turn the resulting planks into sticks to have more than you need.

This kind of redstone clock isn’t usually preferred since minecarts can be glitchy, but it is an interesting use of minecarts.

Just as with redstone, minecarts can be used for just about anything you can imagine. Incorporating minecarts into redstone adds a whole new level of complexity to mechanisms and is fun to play around with. Whether it’s a minecart subway or minecart mechanisms fully incorporated into complex machines, there are many possibilities.;

How Many Powered Rails To Place

Passenger Rail

An occupied minecart will be accelerated to maximum speed by three powered rails in a row. On flat ground, the cart will be kept up to speed by placing a powered rail every 38 blocks along the route. If you don’t mind going slower and want to save on materials, powered rails can be placed further apart.

Cargo Rail

Although the Minecart With Chest looks like it should be good for building cargo trains to move stuff around, it should be noted that they only have the same momentum as an empty minecart, so you would need to place powered rails every 8 blocks. That’s a lot of gold!

Climbing Hills

To keep up top speed whilst climbing a hill, you’ll need one powered rail every two blocks; ie. alternate powered and normal rails. If you don’t mind slowing down a bit, one powered rail every four blocks will do.

The above video is a slight variation that of the first design, that uses lava instead along with pistons is available and does not rely on any glitches, thus is considered to be safe for use in the latest versions of Minecraft . When the player arrives in a minecart, the minecart gets broken by the lava and collected by the hoppers while the player is pushed out of the exit using a glass block connected to a sticky piston. While slightly more redstone intensive than Sethbling’s design , it does not have any problems associated with it and is thus recommended for anyone playing in 1.6+. Just place your minecart by Right-clicking a rail with minecart in hand.

How To Craft Rails In Survival Mode

So, here the steps to Craft Rails in minecraft Survival Mode:

1. Open the Crafting Menu

The first thing you need to do is open your crafting table so that you have a 3×3 crafting grid.

Once you have a 3×3 crafting grid, you have to add utems to make rails.

2. Add Items to Make Rails

After opening the crafting table with a 3×3 grid, place 6 iron ingots and 1 stick in that crafting grid.

This step is a bit tricky because you have to place the materials in a sequence.

In the first row of the crafting Grid, place 1 iron ingot in the first box and 1 iron ingot in the third box.

Keep in mind that the second box should be left empty.

Place 1 iron ingot in the first box, 1 stick in the second box, and 1 iron ingot in the third box in the second grid.

Finally, in the third row, you should place 1 iron ingot in the first box and 1 iron ingot in the third box like the above step.

You have to keep the second box empty in this case too.

Now that you have followed the steps correctly and filled the crafting area with the correct pattern, 16 rails will appear in the box.

3. Move the Rails to Inventory

This is the final step to do for crafting rails. You need to move the new item to your inventory, once you have crafted rails.

Castle Gate With Train Tracks Going Through

I was wondering if anyone here knows how to, or has seen a video that would allow for a castle gate that opens automatically and closes automatically as someone approaches with a minecart. I have a basic concept of redstone and redstone tools but I haven’t seen anything really solid out there for this kinda concept.

Yeah, i have something like this at a Mooshroom Island outpost, the rail line goes straight into a solid wall, just before there is a detector rail which activates two sticky pistons which pull backs two blocks sideways in the wall whilst a third pushes in a rail sideways. The circuit i think is toggled by a detector rail on the inside which then closes it , and the reverse happens when i exit. The only slight problem is due to the design the wall isn’t completely flush, its two blocks recessed where the opening is. I think you could do a flush design, but it would involve a bit more work. You haven’t said what sort of gate you have in mind …. I think the circuit you want is is an ABBA switch with the rail connected to the B input.
