With Rob McElhenny directing, and Carell as a lead, it feels like this film will be a magnet for top notch comedic talent, whether or not the film ends up being a live action or animated project. Though if McElhenny can find a way to bring in some of his It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphiacast mates into the mix, it’d be all the more rewarding.

During the release date announcement in June 2016, Mojang said Minecraft: The Movie was to be released in cinemas in 3D and IMAX.

Aquaman’s Jason Momoa Negotiating Minecraft Role

According to The Ankler, Aquaman and Dune star Jason Momoa is “in negotiations” to voice the main protagonist of Warner Bros.’ Minecraft film. The report states Warner has hopes that this first adaptation could turn into a film franchise. Napoleon Dynamite‘s Jared Hess is slated to direct the project, while Hidden Figures writer Allison Schroeder has been attached to pen the movie since June 2019.
Warner’s film rights to Minecraft expire in just nine months. In order to retain those rights, the studio has to be in active production on a Minecraft film by January 2023.
This would be Momoa’s third go at a voice-acting role. The former Khal Drogo lent his pipes to both The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part and a 2019 episode of The Simpsons, where he voiced Aquaman both times.

In 2020, The Hollywood Reporter revealed the Minecraft movies delay alongside a big COVID-19-related shuffle of the Warner Bros. slate. The Matrix: Resurrections and The Batman were part of that shuffle, and have both released on schedule. Dwayne Johnsons Black Adam film was, along with Minecraft, given an indefinite delay at the time, but now has a date set this summer.

Who Is Behind Minecraft: The Movie
The movie was directed by Peter Sollet. On this point, Shawn Levy was supposed to direct this film, but he walked away from the project after a disagreement with Minecrafts developers, who felt that his concept was not appropriate for the game. Its conception was confirmed by Warner Bros back in 2016, but as we can see, it took them quite some time to develop the full concept and bring it to fruition.
The screenplay was penned by Allison Schroeder and Petter Sollet under the supervision of Markus Persson. It could be done though, as CGI technology could be used to turn the cast of Minecraft into pixelated forms of their normal appearances. Jason Momoa In Talks To Star In Upcoming Minecraft Movie

Jason Momoa is in final negotiations to star in Warner Bros. live-action Minecraft film, the studio confirmed Tuesday.
The flick, based on the popular 2011 video game, will be directed by Jared Hess . Momoa also starred in the Warner Bros. movies Aquaman and Dune. The Hollywood Reporter previously reported the Minecraft news.
A Minecraft movie was first revealed to be in the works at Warner Bros. more than eight years ago. In 2020, a release date of March 4, 2022, was pushed back indefinitely because of the pandemic and has yet to be updated.
Minecraft, one of the best-selling games of all time, lets players explore 3D worlds where they can extract materials, craft items and build structures. The live-action film will join a stack of other video game-based movies released in recent years, including Sonic the Hedgehog , Uncharted and 2021’s Mortal Kombat.
Among the film’s producers are Lydia Winters and Vu Bui of Minecraft developer Mojang Studios. Mary Parent and Roy Lee are also producing, and Jill Messick, who worked on the film before her death in 2018, will receive a posthumous producing credit. The film’s executive producers include Cale Boyter, Jon Spaihts and Jon Berg.

This teenage girl will be the films main character with a new take on Minecrafts Ender Dragon acting as the main villain.
On April 18th 2022, Deadline reported that Aquamans Jason Momoa was forefront in discussions for Minecraft: The Movies cast.
In the film, there will also be a group of adventurers that accompany the teen girl on her quest. A group that is sure to be full of quirky, fun characters.
Perhaps this group will feature some of the pre-existing characters in the Minecraft universe.
Minecraft is not a narrative video game. However, players still get to choose who to play as when they explore the open world.
The two characters currently available for play are Steve and Alex.
