Growing Into Amethyst Clusters

An amethyst bud placed on a budding amethyst regardless whether it was placed by the player or spawned by the budding amethyst itself will grow over time, going through three growth stages small, medium, and large before reaching its 4th and final growth stage as an amethyst cluster, which drops amethyst shards when mined.

Budding Amethyst Can’t Be Mined

Budding amethyst blocks are special, especially in survival mode. They can’t be mined, even when using a Silk Touch pickaxe. Currently, they’re only available in creative mode.

Placing an amethyst cluster onto a budding amethyst block can actually make it grow, provided you first use Silk Touch to remove the cluster and then place it down on a budding amethyst block again.

Ive played Minecraft alone, and now my son has grown old enough, that we can play it together, which is a lot of fun! And a lot has changed in the many world seeds of Minecraft since the beginning.

One of the later additions in Minecraft is the beautiful amethyst crystal. So what is amethyst in Minecraft?

Amethyst in Minecraft is a purple crystal that grows in four different stages: Budding Amethyst, Amethyst Bud, Amethyst Block, and Amethyst Cluster. Minecraft amethysts spawn in Amethysts Geodes between Y-levels Y=-64 and Y=30 . The geodes are hollow spherical structures, that give off a pleasing sound, that makes them easier to find.Amethysts can be used to create things like spyglass and tinted windows.

Minecraft: Breaking Down Amethyst Uses

Though Amethyst can only be used to craft a few creations in Minecraft at the moment, it’s still worth taking a look into the functions of those individual items for further reference.

A breakdown of the functions of Amethyst blocks, Spyglasses, and tinted glass in Minecraft can be found below:

Amethyst blocks

  • Used primarily for decoration.
  • Crafted using Amethyst shards. Place the shards in a 2×2 square in a crafting menu in order to produce the block.
  • When broken with a pickaxe, the block itself will drop. If broken by any other means, the block will be destroyed without dropping anything.
  • Can also be found naturally within geodes accompanying smooth basalt and calcite blocks.
  • Makes a unique sound compared to other blocks when interacted with which is much softer compared to other decorative blocks.

Tinted glass

  • A visually transparent block that can be seen through while also blocking out light.
  • Unlike standard glass, tinted glass will drop as a block when broken by any tool or by hand, giving it more reusability.
  • Much like a standard opaque block in Minecraft, tinted glass will completely block light from passing through it.
  • Similar to standard glass, mobs will not suffocate if they are encased in tinted glass.
  • Crafted using a cross pattern of Amethyst shards with a piece of glass at the center of a crafting menu grid.

As of 1.4.0.1, they can be crafted back into their Stony block forms at a Heavy Work Bench in a graveyard and can be obtained by cutting down an amethyst Gem Tree, dropping 0-5 of its respective gems

What Can You Do With Copper

Raw copper can be smelted in a furnace just like any other ore to produce copper ingots. You can also combine nine pieces of raw copper to create a full block of copper ore. Copper ingots can be used to craft three things: blocks of copper, lightning rods, and spyglasses.

Blocks of copper are created with nine copper ingots. They are used for decorative purposes, though they have a rather unique feature to them. Copper blocks will eventually oxidize over time, giving them a greenish color. You can apply honeycomb to a block of copper to get a block of waxed copper, which prevents oxidation.

Four blocks of copper can create cut copper, which can be used in typical building construction recipes, like stairs and slabs.

Lightning rods are crafted with three copper ingots in a single column. During thunderstorms, lightning rods will begin to emit particles to signify its working. If lightning strikes a nearby area, the strike will be diverted to the lightning rod instead. This can be helpful for preventing fires from breaking out.

Spyglasses are crafted with two copper ingots and one amethyst shard. Spyglasses allow the player to zoom in on a specific location. For budding adventurers, the spyglass is a useful tool to scope out your surroundings and locate points of interest.

Where To Find Amethyst Geodes In Minecraft 117

    EVERYTHING TO KNOW ABOUT AMETHYST!

To find an Amethyst Geode in Minecraft 1.17, its best to just go underground and start mining. You dont necessarily have to go deep though: Amethyst geodes can spawn between y: 0 to y: 70. Amethyst Geodes are not that hard to spot either. These mineral structures are very big and often cracked, which means that you might see the faint glowing light from a distance.

Keep an eye out for smooth basalt while mining. This is the dark outer layer of an Amethyst Geode. Break through this first layer to find calcite, and then continue to find the amethyst. Inside, youll find Blocks of Amethyst, Budding Amethyst, Amethyst Buds, and Amethyst Clusters. Lets go over which is which:

    What About Ender Amethyst

Ender amethyst is different from standard amethyst, and youre going to need a diamond pickaxe to get it. This material was introduced in the Biomes OPlenty update.

You can get ender amethyst on the outer islands if youre interested. Getting ender amethyst is a lot easier if you have the Silk Touch enchantment on your diamond pickaxe.

You might want to spend some time getting this because ender amethyst can make great armor. Amethyst armor has 640 durability and is even stronger than diamond armor.

Getting a full set of armor, boots, leggings, and a helmet will take a bit of effort. Its worthwhile to spend a bit of time collecting the necessary materials.

    Crafting With Amethyst In Minecraft

There are currently three crafting recipes which require amethysts as ingredients:

    • Block of Amethyst: A decorative block made from four amethyst shards. Basically you’re sticking a bunch of shards back together to recreate the interior layer of the geode. Nice if you want to recreate a geode cave for aesthetic purposes .
    • Tinted Glass: Combining four amethyst shards with one piece of glass yields two tinted glass blocks. These are visually opaque but behave in-game as though they are completely light-proof. They are not airtight, unlike regular glass.
    • Spyglass: Combining an amethyst shard with two copper ingots creates a Spyglass. This item can be used to view and zoom in on far-away locations. There are three Advancements associated with this item, granted for looking at a Parrot, a Ghast, and an Ender Dragon through the spyglass.

What Can You Do With Amethyst Shards In Minecraft 117 Version

Amethyst in Minecraft is one of the new items that was added into the game in part one of the 1.17 Caves & Cliffs update. This resource is located inside the new Lush Caves & players will most likely find it when locating smooth basalt.

Amethyst is not too hard to spot due to its bright purple color. This block is usually hidden behind smooth basalt. Players may run into the black basalt block, then start mining it. Behind it, there could be a huge Amethyst room surrounded by calcite.

Players can mine the Amethyst shards using a pickaxe enchanted with silk touch. If it is mined without silk touch, it will drop nothing. This will mean that players have wasted the material.

Players can use this Amethyst room as a place to gather lots of resources, or they can use it as a good source of lighting. Players may find that amethyst shards emit a light level of 5. It’s not that much, but it can still assist players while in dark places.

There are several things that players can use Amethyst for, which they may not know about.

Geodes are large, spherical structures with an outer layer of basalt. They can usually be found between the bedrock and Y=70, though you might get lucky and see one partially exposed on the surface.

Once you’ve located a geode, break through the first two layers to located the amethyst inside. Mining amethyst clusters will drop four amethyst shards with an iron pickaxe or better.

An Amethyst Bud can grow from another bud with cracks in it. First, it will develop a small bud that will eventually grow in size into a large bud. Now, it will develop into an Amethyst Cluster.

You can separate the Amethyst Cluster from the bud. However, if you want to keep farming Amethyst, keep the cracked bud. This will make sure that Amethyst regularly keeps spawning.

This is everything that you need to know about how to get Amethyst in Minecraft. Now that you are here make sure you have a look at how to make a lightning rod.

How To Grow Amethyst Shards In Minecraft

Minecraft players cannot mine the bud Amethyst block and move it to other places. If you see an Amethyst geode, it is likely that you can find multiple Amethyst blocks and common ones inside. These locations are often surrounded by smooth calcite, basalt layer, right in the middle of a place with loads of Amethyst blocks and bud Amethyst blocks.

There are two steps to get Amethyst Shards in Minecraft, first is mining these blocks from geodes and second is growing them from clusters.

    Grow Amethyst Shards From Cluster

As they only grow in certain geodes, players cannot make their own Amethyst farms. The next step of how to grow Amethyst Shards in Minecraft is to get the Amethyst from the caves and get fresh supplies.

There are two main stages the Amethyst growth goes through and they happen all atop the budding Amethyst blocks. A common Amethyst block does not have any crack in the center, while the budding one has this distinct pattern.

The Amethyst bud can only spawn from the cracked blocks. When it does, it will grow from a little Amethyst bud to a medium, then a large one. At the last stage, the next transition is it becoming an Amethyst cluster which has all the shards the player can mine.

Once you have mined the cluster and kept the budding block there, you are able to return and mine it again once it has undergone the cycle once more.

Where To Find Amethyst In Minecraft

Minecraft UHC but you can craft Amethyst Armor..

Amethysts are actually a series of mineable resources in Minecraft, but all variants spawn in the same location: geodes.

Geodes are hollow underground structures, and are surprisingly easy to spot. They’re usually quite large you can often quite comfortably walk inside one as soon as you discover it and emit a low purple light. They also emit pleasing twinkly sounds to match their sparkly appearance.

In other words, they contrast quite sharply with the rocks around them. They can spawn in locations where they’re visible from the surface, and can potentially be found in any Overworld biome.

With the new 1.17 update installed, it’s possible for geodes to spawn into caves you’ve already explored, so finding one might be a simple case of looking around in familiar areas.

If you do go digging for one, however, there are a few signs to be on the look-out for that you’re on the right track. If you’re familiar with real amethyst geodes, you’ll probably know that they have several different mineral layers, giving them their distinctive appearance.

Minecraft geodes are no different. Your first indication that a geode is nearby is hitting the outer layer of smooth basalt. Within that is a layer of calcite. Get through that and you’ll hit the amethyst.

    Types of amethyst in Minecraft

There’s no single resource called amethyst in Minecraft. Instead, amethyst comes in several forms with slightly different appearances and uses.

What Are Amethyst Clusters And Buds

Aside from the solid walls of the geode, you’ll notice there are large clusters and small buds growing on the walls, floors, and ceiling inside.

The small pieces are called amethyst buds, and they have three growth stages: small, medium, and large.

The final growth stage turns them into amethyst clusters and is the only stage that actually drops amethyst shards, unless you mine the clusters with a Silk Touch pickaxe.

When mining for amethyst, make sure to always check that the cluster you’re mining is the largest possible cluster and not a large amethyst bud. Ignore the small clusters that are still growing.

    Once Youve Found A Geode

When you do manage to locate a geode, theres a good chance that there will be a crack in its exterior somewhere through which you may enter. If there is no crack, or its not exposed in the direction youre trying to enter, youll have to mine your way in to get at the amethyst. Make sure youre using a pickaxe to ensure what you mine drops as a block rather than simply breaking. The outermost layer is smooth basalt, a cool new dark-colored block that should add some extra detail to those moody builds.

Just inside the basalt is calcite, a new light-colored block that can only be found inside geodes and in strips in the stony peaks biome. As it stands this block is purely decorative, but Minecraft is always changing and you never know when blocks like this will be given a new purpose. Also, as it has no infinite generation mechanic meaning calcite is a finite material in the game, making it a valuable commodity.

Finally, inside the calcite, youll find your amethyst blocks and budding amethyst, with amethyst buds and amethyst clusters scattered throughout on the various surfaces. It wont hurt you at all to mine up all the amethyst blocks, amethyst buds, and amethyst clusters you find inside the geode. Be sure to use a silk touch pick on the amethyst buds or they will drop nothing when broken.
