Hi all, I just have a couple of quick questions if thats ok

I started playing Minecraft on console last year and have recently been checking out the PC version, I understand that PC minecraft is a lot better with a lot more features, but I really don’t like using a keyboard and mouse, I miss my controller, so I was wondering if it is possible to use my Xbox One or PS4 controller to play Minecraft on PC?I like to relax and lay down in bed while playing minecraft and a keyboard and mouse just doesn’t suit me and it feels weird to me not using a controller to play. Also, I was wondering if it is possible to quit a minecraft session on PC without saving? On console there is the option to exit the game without saving, but it seems on PC that everything that I do gets saved even if I don’t want it to…I have a tendency to run into disaster xD , like a few days ago when I went on a 2 hour mining trip and ended up with 21 diamonds which I was storing in a chest underground and literally as I finished mining and went to get the diamonds out of the chest I got creepered and it destroyed the layer of stone that I was standing on and myself and my chest of diamonds fell into the lava underneath That is the level of disaster that frequents me and I wana be able to exit without saving if possible! Thanks for any help

MWalnuts said:Hello, so I’ve been meaning to swap to a controller for a while now, mainly because after a week or so of farming my wrists are really hurting now. I’ve read in previous threads that it’s generally allowed as long as you don’t bind macros to it or whatever.I want to know how people generally setup their controller to work with minecraft , but wanted to make sure before I go doing it so I’m one with the trend .I mainly will be doing this for Skyblock, specifically just when farming crops and doing slayers .Thanks :]

    Game Controls In Minecraft

This Minecraft tutorial explains all about the game controls that you use when you play Minecraft on different platforms.

Minecraft is available to play on almost every platform. The most common versions are:

    • Java Edition
    • Xbox
    • PS

Each of these versions of Minecraft has completely different game controls.

    What Are The Alternatives

How To Use a Controller On Java Edition Minecraft

So, are there any alternatives to using InputMapper and a DualShock 4 controller? The only simple alternative that we can suggest is to, sadly, buy an Xbox 360/One controller to use for PC gaming.

Microsofts XInput API makes gaming with an Xbox 360/One controller such a simplistic experience, you sometimes forget youre playing on a PC and not an Xbox.

Although even with Microsofts own controllers, there is a downside unless you have one of the newer Xbox One S controllers with Bluetooth, if you just use the controller that came with your console, it will only work plugged into a USB work – you won’t be able to connect it straight away to your PC wirelessly.

You can however buy an Xbox One controller with a wireless adapter for PC, or you can simply buy the wireless adapter on its own if you already own a controller. If you still have an Xbox 360 controller, you can still grab a 360 wireless adapter too.

There’s also Valve’s Steam Controller, which is designed to support any Steam game – even those without built-in controller support. The best price for it we’ve found is £55.99 from Game;- though be warned, it’s a bit different from your average controller, with dual trackpads instead of the second analogue stick and D-pad, for more precise input.

    Configure Controller Settings For Minecraft

Now youll need to configure your controller settings so that they work correctly with Minecraft. Go back to Big Picture Modes main page then select Library to bring up your list of games. Go to Games under the Browse option and use the filter to select Minecraft.

Rather than starting Minecraft, you want to go to Manage Shortcut. This will allow you to configure the games settings, which you can do by selecting Controller Configuration under Steam Input.

Now, you can either spend a while customizing your inputs manually or, for a much quicker and efficient method, go to Browse Configs and select one of the various user-created configurations for your controller.

As mentioned above, although the DualShock 4 has Windows compatibility, game developers have to specifically add support for it, or it wont work. Alas, there is light at the end of the tunnel as theres an application available that will map the DualShock 4 controls directly to Microsofts XInput API.

The end result is that games are tricked into thinking youre using an Xbox 360 controller, and youll be free to play as many games with your DualShock 4 controller as your heart desires.

So, what is this application and how do you use it? Well

    1) Download and install InputMapper. The first step is to head over to the InputMapper website, download the latest version of the tool and install it on your PC.

    2) Connect your DualShock 4 controller. Once youve installed InputMapper, the next step is to connect your controller to your PC. You can do this via a USB connection or via Bluetooth, but its worth bearing in mind that a Bluetooth connection isnt as stable as a wired one.

However, if youre adamant on connecting via Bluetooth, just hold the Share button and PlayStation button on the controller until the light flashes to enter pairing mode, then pair with it on your PC.

Its worth noting that you may encounter the odd game here and there that has compatibility issues. If this issue arises, head into the Settings menu of InputMapper and toggle the checkbox labelled Use Exclusive Mode.
