How to Add Plugins to Your Minecraft 1.16.1 Server (Bukkit, Paper, Spigot)

Note: Installing plugins from the Plugin List feature on the control panel does not update when plugins are added or deleted using other methods. This means that plugins that were uploaded manually using an FTP or the File Manager will not display on the Plugin List panel. Therefore we recommend using the File Manager for all plugin installations/removal.Note: Never use plugins from cracked sources as it is not only unfair to the developer but can expose your server to potential DDoS, crypto mining, and more. Please check the reliability and reviews of the plugin before installing it.

How To Add Plugins To Spigot

Plugins are add-ons to your Minecraft server, changing how you play the game. Minecraft servers are often shared with friends and others so they can join. With some plugins, you can add new features such as altered NPCs, in-game economy, and making everything in a part of the world indestructible.

Think of plugins as browser extensions, but for Minecraft servers instead of Google Chrome. Plugins dont modify the game at all, as that is what mods do . As such, plugins tend not to cause changes as radical as mods can.

Despite this, plugins are attractive due to their convenience. Installing mods will require you to change your copy of Minecraft in some way. Plugins instead only get installed on the server, so theres no risk of altering your game files in a harmful way.

Minecraft How To Add Plugins To A Singleplayer World

minecraft-java-edition

I am playing Minecraft 1.9.2. I want to install Bukkit or some other plugin to my single-player world. I know it is possible to install plugins on multi-player servers, but I’m not sure about single-player. Is it possible? If it is, how can I do it?

Best Answer

Plugins are for bukkit servers, you need the Bukkit API to run them. In other words you can’t run plugins in singleplayer.

What you can do is run a public bukkit server in which only you can join. To do this:

  • Op yourself ‘/OP’
  • Edit server.properties and set max value to 0
  • Edit the ops.json and change your ‘Bypass Player limit ‘ to true

How To Add Plugins to A Minecraft Server in Minecraft 1.16.4

One of the most exciting things about the Minecraft server is the ability to optimize it past what Vanilla Minecraft can offer. One of the best ways to do this is using plugins. The reasoning behind this is that plugins only need to be installed on the server, unlike mods, as mods need to be installed on both the server and Minecraft client itself.

Learning How To Code Quickly Without Prior Experience

This option is suitable for 99% of people. Even if you need an extremely large solution like Mineplex or Hypixel, you still need to understand at least the basics so you wont need to ping your developer team each time you need to change a simple message in the code for you.

Coding is easier and faster than most people experience. The problem out there is a lack of quality resources, proven systems to follow and professional guidance to help you get unstuck. And as you probably know, if youre a beginner, youll get stuck a lot.

Getting Started With Coding For Free

Here are some great starting points for coding plugins. Minecraft updates rapidly and plugins break, so I really tried to write this article in an universal and future-proof way to avoid putting out a version-specific advice out there.

    Understand This Before You Start

Minecraft is coded in Java. Everything we do will have to do with the Java programming language. If you never coded anything before, or you dont understand the Java programming language, you need to learn it before you can developer great Minecraft plugins. Yes, this tutorial is designed as a jumpstart right into production and we will not cover how Java works in general, but for most people you need to learn it simultaneously if you are serious about your progress.

Here at Apex Hosting we have a great curated list of plugins from Bukkit and Spigot that is directly integrated in your panel. This will be one of the easiest ways to install plugins on your Java server.

  • Login to your Apex Hosting Panel and select the server you want to install the plugins too.
  • Select Plugin List on the left hand side of the panel.
  • On this page you can select either Bukkit or Spigot as your source. The only difference may be the results you get. Both sources of plugins should work on the server.
  • You can then search for specific names of plugins or by category. Once you find a plugin you wish to install click on it.
  • Now at the top of the page verify that there is a compatible version for your server version, e.g. If your server is running Paper 1.16.5 you will want to make sure there is a version that states compatibility with 1.16.
  • Once you verify there is a compatible version you can select it in the Version dropdown menu. Then click install to the right! You can verify the process has completed by checking your server console.
  • Once the process is complete be sure to restart your server for the plugin to load.

    Can Spigot Run Bukkit Plugins

Yes, it can. Most of the plugins made for Bukkit work with Spigot. In contrast, some Spigot plugins may not work with Bukkit.

Make sure you check a plugins documentation and see if theres anything warning you not to use it on Spigot. Alternatively, you can consider sending a message to the developer to ask directly.

    No Griefing In This Server

With the help of plugins, your Spigot server can become a fun place to play. Your world will gain features not found in the base game. The best part is that you can change the plugins as you wish.

Are Plugins And Mods The Same

How to Install Plugins on a Minecraft Java Server

Mods modify the game, whereas plugins enhance the game. To use mods, you’d typically use a special launcher client-side and you typically need a good chunk of memory available. Mods may be client-side only, server-side only, or required on both. If you’re looking to run a modpack, our mod installation guide can help!

Finding Developers And Building A Team

If you have a large budget, you can opt in for this. However, dont think that money will save you out of trouble. We have seen enough servers struggle with communication with their developer team. Even if you succeed at finding talented developers , you still need to be in contact with them and explain everything you need.

This can create misunderstandings and communication is often painfully complicated and slow. Besides, every developer has their own likings and may or may not comply to your requests in the exact way as you outlined it. If you dont need a ground-up built server like Mineplex, chances are you can do it quicker and for free instead of finding and building a developer team.

Your Download Only Contained A Single Or Multiple Jar Files

How To Add Plugins to A Server in Minecraft 1.16.2
    • Upload your .jar file via to minecraftbukkit/plugins.
    • Simply restart or reload your Gameserver. If the plugins requires an additional configuration file, it’ll be generated automatically. So if the plugin name is “Nitrado” the folder structure would be like this: minecraftbukkit/plugins/Nitrado.
    • You may now browse the mentioned folder and edit the contained files if there are any. Please note that this is not always the case. If you are editing configuration files it’s not recommended to use Windows default Texteditor but Notepad++ instead. Please note that the common plugin uses YAML-formatted configuration files which have special syntax rules. For instance, the use of the TAB key is forbidden and may even break a configuration if used. Fortunately Notepadd++ ships with the option to highlight TABs and also to replace TABs with 4 whitespaces if desired.
    • After you finish editing the configuration file you can easily restart or reload the server for the changes to take effect. If your server somehow is not reachable anymore or a certain plugin breaks its a common practice to connect to your server using FTB and opening the server.log file. If you can’t figure out what the console output means, you may always create a new thread in the Community Support Board.

  • Log into your Prisma account here:

  • Once you have logged in, select the server you wish to update.

  • Stop your server using the Stop button.

  • If youre ready to proceed, navigate to your File Manager, found under the Customize menu in Prisma’s navigation bar.
