How To Create A Minecraft Mod Without Coding Experience

You dont necessarily need to have coding experience to create Minecraft mods. It can be done using dedicated software, such as MCreator, available for Mac, Windows, and Linux.

With it, you can create armor, biomes, add animated textures or mobs with custom AI. This software features user-friendly tools such as an animation editor, mob animation wizard, and sound manager. Your mod can be tested during the development process, too. Think of it as of drag-and-drop website editor like Wix.

Furthermore, MCreator features an integrated code editor that lets you test your programming knowledge if you wish. Minecraft and Minecraft Forge codes are already uploaded into the editor. If youre interested, the MCreators official site provides detailed guides on creating various mod elements.

Decide On Fabric Or Forge

Two major mod foundations are used in modern Minecraft. There is the original: Forge, which has been the go to for many years now. There is also now, however, the Fabric mod loader, which is a much newer, and better optimized way to play with mods.

Players can use either for the Create mod, as there is a version of the mod for each mod loader. So, they should simply go with their preference, or pick whichever loader has better compatibility with other mods that they wish to use.

How To Get Started With Minecraft Modding

To get kids started with Minecraft modding, you need to have a version of Minecraft on a desktop, tablet or smartphone and access to a coding platform such as MakeCode or Tynker. While all versions of Minecraft support some kind of modding, they are all a bit different based on the platform.

Importing Minecraft Mods With Minecraft Forge

Now that your mod is complete, all that’s left to do is import it into Minecraft.

To install this mod, or any other mod, you need to install Minecraft Forge. Forge provides a simple and easy way to install custom mods into Minecraft itself.

From the Forge home page, download an installer suitable for your operating system and Minecraft version. Run the installer, and when prompted, choose Install client.

Once installed, launch or restart Minecraft. From the Minecraft Launcher, press the up arrow to the right of the play button at the bottom. Select Forge. This will load Minecraft with Forge, so you will need to do this everytime you want to use your mod.

When in Minecraft, things will look different with Forge running. There’s some extra text at the bottom, along with a Mods button.

Choose the Mods button, and you’ll see that your mod is not visible. You need to install your mod into Forge/Minecraft. Installation involves copying and pasting your mod into the mods folder of Minecraft.

  • On Windows, this is in AppData/.minecraft/
  • On Mac, this is in Library/Application Support/minecraft/

You may need to restart Minecraft if you’ve pasted your mod while it is running. Enter the mods menu, and your mod will show up, complete with description, title, picture, and creator information. Well done!

For this example, the “super_diamond” is now visible alongside all the other blocks.

Step 1: Go to the official Forge website and download the recommended version of the software. You can also install the latest version of Forge, but it could have some unresolved bugs that will affect your ability to properly run some mods.

Step 2: Download the mods you want to install from a reliable source. CurseForge is a popular location with hundreds of great mods to choose from. However, not all mods are compatible with all versions of Minecraft, or even with Forge. Make sure to research the specific mod youre interested in to find out if its compatible with your software.

If this is your first mod, there is no mods folder within the .minecraft folder. With the .minecraft folder open, right-click within File Explorer and select New followed by Folder on the pop-up menu. Name that folder mods.

Step 4: Move the downloaded mod into the Mods folder.
