Minecraft : Best Places To Mine Diamonds

Minecraft’s Caves and Cliffs Part 2 update changes the way Diamonds are generated, and there are new places players can look to mine them.

The long-awaited Caves and Cliffs Part 2 update for Minecraft brings a whole new ore generation system, introducing new ways to mine diamonds. Diamonds are the most precious materials in Minecraft. The 1.18 update adds tons of additional layers to the world, allowing players to dig deeper than ever before, and they will now have to do so in order to find the game’s most important resource.

There are 64 additional layers that were added in the Caves and Cliffs Part 2 Minecraft update beyond where bedrock used to lie. The previous elevation designations have not changed new layers were simply added to the top and bottom of the range, so the new layers are layers Y -1 to Y -64. Instead of regular stone, these layers are comprised mostly of deepslate, a darker and tougher material that takes a bit longer to break. There is also a new lava table, or, a depth at which lava is more commonly generated, and it is found at Y -54.

How To Find Diamonds Without Mining

Although mining is the most surefire way to find diamonds, you can find them already mined out in the world.

Although rare, there’s a chance to find diamonds in village treasure chests. Desert temples and mineshafts might hold diamonds in their treasure chests too.

The most common place to find chests with diamonds is in buried treasure chests. These are chests buried underground, usually on beaches. You can find these chests using explorer maps, which themselves can be found in shipwrecks underwater.

Once You Get To Layer 15 Keep Digging

You’re getting awfully close to diamond territory at layer 15, but go ahead and keep digging. Layer 12 is when diamonds, indicated by blue flecks, start to make more appearances. And there’s less lava on layers 11 and 12 than others, so that’s probably your best bet for a large mining operation.

Remember that diamonds are rare, even in low layers. It might take a long time for you to find any. And of course, there’s always a chance that you won’t find any at all before you need to head back home.

But once you find diamond ore, mine it with the iron pickaxe and collect your prize. Most diamond comes in a “vein,” meaning that there will be multiple diamond ore blocks connected to one another. Mine all the diamonds you can see, and then move on.

Have Higher Tier Pickaxes

While the player will obviously need Iron or above to mine the Diamond itself, it pays to have a higher tier Pickaxes to find them. Iron chews through stone much faster than Stone and can save a tone of time.

Its even better if the player has access to Diamond or Netherite Pickaxes. Experiments by players have discovered that Netherite is almost twice as fast as Iron when it comes to mining. Theres also the fact that better materials last longer. Iron Pickaxes have 250 uses, Diamond has 1,563, and Netherite has 2,031 uses before breaking. More uses means more time mining and less time replacing tools.

How To Get And Farm Diamonds

In the previous versions, they can already be found below level 15. But in Minecraft 1.18, Diamond Ores are instead found below Y-coordinate 16 to -64. However, you should concentrate your search between levels -53 and -59, as these levels have the highest concentration of Diamond. The deeper you go, the more Diamonds, Redstone, and Lapis you can find. Meanwhile, at Y -60 Bedrock blocks start to spawn and might end up hindering the Diamonds from spawning, so with that in mind you should start looking above -60. Heres how to find out what coordinates you are located at in Minecraft:

  • Java Version: Press the F3 key. Your exact coordinates are listed in the XYZ line. You could also refer to the Block line but it doesnt display your exact coordinates since the numbers are rounded.
  • Bedrock Version:
  • When you first create your World, turn on the Show Coordinate option in the World Options menu.
  • If you forgot or didnt turn on the Show Coordinate option the first time around, dont worry. Simply click the Pen icon or Edit button next to your World, then turn on Show Coordinate.

According to the Minecraft YouTuber Ducky , here are the best tips to farm Diamonds in Minecraft 1.18.

  • Or you can do his second farming method:
  • Get Pickaxes, a Shovel, Water Bucket, and food.
  • Dig down to coordinate -59. Once there, dig out five blocks in front of you at eye level.
  • Next, switch to the Water Bucket .
  • Once in the gap, dig in one straight line as far as you need.

    How To Power Pistons

The piston must be connected to either powered redstone or to a lever or other redstone switch. In the Nintendo Switch version of Minecraft, you can attach levers or other redstone switches directly to a piston.

If you want one redstone switch to control multiple pistons, you will have to link the pistons with redstone dust and power it. Contraptions using pistons and redstone can be unbelievably intricate, but a good starter project is to create a hidden staircase or hidden door.

How To Use Slime Blocks With Pistons

If you manage to collect nine slimeballs, you can craft a slime block.

Attaching a slime block to a sticky piston allows you to move blocks directly adjacent to the slime block.

Keep in mind that a piston can only move 12 blocks in a row, so if you place it on the ground, it will not move. You must create a channel beneath the slime block to allow its movement.

Once you’ve made the channel beneath the slime block, you can attach the blocks you’d like to move.

When you engage the piston, it will push the slime block as well as any attached blocks. All blocks touching the slime block will return to their regular position when the piston is disengaged.

Where To Find Diamonds In Minecraft 118

Like I have mentioned before, Diamonds are a rare resource and are not that easy to find. So, we will have to be smart on how we are going to find them in a Minecraft World. After the revamp to Ore Distribution in the 1.18 update in Minecraft, Diamond has become more abundant and easier to find when compared to before versions of Minecraft. Diamond starts to generate at Y16 and can be found till Bedrock Level. You will find a good amount of Diamonds in between Y-58 and Y-64. Although Diamonds can generate at Y-64, it drastically tapers off as Bedrock starts to generate before Y-64.

Along with the new Ore Distribution changes, there has been a change to how Diamonds generate as a vein. Diamonds can now be in a vein of max size 4 and lower instead of the 8 max size in Minecraft 1.18. So, you will find Diamonds commonly as a 2 ore vein. This seems like a big nerf but in Minecraft 1.18 you will find more Diamonds. The best way of finding Diamonds is to Strip Mine at Y-59. At that level, mine a 3×3 tunnel and you will come across a lot of Diamonds.

This was all about finding Diamonds in Minecraft 1.18. Hopefully, this guide has helped you. You can also check our guides on Ore Distribution and Dripstone Caves in Minecraft 1.18.
