Minecraft Crossplay: How To Set It Up

How To Play Minecraft Cross-Platform (PC, Console, & Mobile!)

Playing Minecraft together;is easy. You and your friends just need the right setup as listed below:;

  • Supported platforms: Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Windows 10, Nintendo Switch, iOS, Android and;Samsung Gear VR are supported.;
  • Bedrock Edition: You and your friends need the Bedrock Edition, which is not the same as the Java Edition. Crossplay is not supported for the Java Edition.;
  • Microsoft account: The last thing need;for crossplay is a Microsoft account. If you own an Xbox account just use that;instead.

If you have installed the Bedrock update, you can start crossplay on PS4, Xbox, PC or tablet and thus play Minecraft cross-platform in the future.

How To Update The Game

As the crossplay option is available for the Bedrock edition only, we will not discuss the Java edition. Lets see how to update the game, before learning how to play the game cross-platform.

iOs/Android

On your mobile device, open Google Play on Android or Apple Store on your apple phone. Type Minecraft in the search bar. If there is an update available, you will get an option to update or the play option.

PS4, Windows 10, & Xbox One

For PS4, Windows 10, & Xbox One, update the game just like the Minecraft Dungeons. Use the steps mentioned above in the article. Only Xbox One supports cross-platform play, and only Xbox One users need to create Xbox Live ID.

Can I Save And Then Switch Between Platforms On Minecraft Dungeons But Keep Progress

You most likely wont be able to do this in the way you have in mind. You can simply pick up the same characters and proceed when updating to a different console on an identical platform. In other words, if youre switching from an Xbox One to an Xbox Series X, youll want to ensure that youre logged in to the corresponding Microsoft account, and your game information should be the same. However, you wont be able to change between platforms and save your progress if you have been using your PlayStation, but you want to take your Dungeons on-the-go with a Switch, youll have to restart the process entirely.;

The best part is that Mojang has assured this feature, which it terms cloud saves, is coming soon and will enable you to switch between platforms while preserving all of your precious progress. However, we are not aware of any current date for when this feature may be published.

Minecraft Is Now Cross

Minecraft has just launched cross-play functionality on the PlayStation 4.

That means block-builders will now be able to join their friends on the Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, Windows 10 and even mobile players in the same game.

The free update containing the Bedrock Edition launched earlier today, although its worth noting the update is separate from the regular PlayStation 4 Console Edition .

The new edition also includes access to the Minecraft Marketplace, where players can find new worlds, costumes, mini-games and entertainment packs.

Fortunately, existing physical copies of Minecraft will unlock a Bedrock Edition download. Players who have the Console Edition already downloaded will be able to choose between the older or newer version.

Players looking to get involved with the new edition will have to sign up for a Microsoft Account according to rumours, this is why cross-play on the PlayStation has taken so long to come out.

Microsoft purchases Minecraft studio Mojang in 2014 and first revealed cross playback in 2017 on the Xbox, PC and mobile. Next came the Nintendo Switch in June of 2018, and it has taken this long for the same service to appear on the PS4.

How To Play Minecraft Cross Platform On Nintendo Switch

For Nintendo Switch owners, the first thing to note is that crossplay is not available on Minecraft: Nintendo Switch Edition. This version of the game is no longer sold on the eShop and has been replaced by a version simply entitled Minecraft. You will need to have this edition of the game installed and updated to the latest version.

As with other versions of the game, you will need to have an active Microsoft account too.

Once you have both of these things in place, launch Minecraft and select Sign In for Free when the option is displayed. You will be shown a unique code, which you can enter on: . You will need to visit this URL on another device, as the Switch does not have an in-built web browser to use for this.

After you have followed the instructions and entered the code, your Microsoft account will be connected to your Nintendo Switch account. You will not be able to remove this link between accounts without losing game progress. An active Nintendo Switch Online subscription will also be required for online play.

Minecraft Dungeons Guide: How To Enable Cross

Minecraft Dungeons is one of the best games to play with friends in online and local co-op, which is one of the many reasons it makes an appearance on our list of Best Games for Kids on Xbox, but since its launch Minecraft Dungeons has been criticized for its lack of cross-play support. Now, after months of teasers and waiting, Minecraft Dungeons officially has cross-play support on all platforms.

However, cross-play can sometimes be a little bit of a mess, as each individual platform has its own way of doing things, and integrate Minecraft Dungeons’ cross-play support in different ways. In this Minecraft Dungeons cross-play guide, we’ll go over everything you need to know about enabling and using cross-play to play with your friends, no matter where they are.

This even includes on-the-go with Xbox Cloud Gaming , where Minecraft Dungeons continues to be our top pick for the best games for Xbox Cloud Gaming on Android.

    Is Minecraft Cross Platform

    Minecraft is cross platform, meaning you are able to engage in crossplay gaming sessions with players who are using different consoles or gaming platforms. However, there are some caveats to this, with the first being that those participating in a Minecraft crossplay session will need to be using the same version of the game.

    Fortunately, this has become much easy since the release of Minecraft Bedrock Edition, which is now available on Windows, Android, iOS, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch. As long as you are using this edition, you will be able to play multiplayer Minecraft online, regardless of which system you use.

    The second caveat is that in order to play Minecraft cross platform, you will need to have a Microsoft account. For Xbox users, this is not a problem, because an Xbox account is already needed for Xbox Live. Yet, the need for a Microsoft account also applies to those playing on PlayStation, Nintendo Switch and other platforms too.

    If you do not currently have a Microsoft account, you can create one for free at:

    From there, simply click Create a Microsoft Account and follow the instructions.

    How Do I Start A Crossplay Session On Minecraft

    The easiest way to begin a Minecraft crossplay game is to invite a friend to your session. On some systems, you will need to check the settings for your current session, ensuring crossplay is enabled. You can do this by going to Game Settings followed by Configure Online Play. If the option is not visible, crossplay is automatically enabled.

    Once you are happy with your settings, you can invite players to your game by visiting the main game menu, which is typically found by pressing the Start button, or whatever the equivalent is on your chosen system. From there, you should see an option to invite friends and then it is a simple case of selecting the person you would like to invite.

    Alternatively, you can join a friends active session by scrolling to the Friends tab and then looking under Joinable Cross-Platform Friends. A list of sessions that you are able to join will be displayed. You could also ask a friend to send you an invite through the game. If they do this, you should see an on-screen pop-up, allowing you to join.

    The Realms feature on Minecraft is also compatible with crossplay. Using this feature, a session can be created and then joined by multiple players and the Realm creator does not need to be active. Once you join a Realm, you can easily re-join at any point in the future by going to the Friends tab and looking under the Joinable Realms section.

    How Do I Play With Friends Using Cross

    Once you’ve connected your Microsoft Account with Minecraft Dungeons, you’re ready to begin playing with friends from other platforms! Since this is all built on a Microsoft Account, playing with friends means knowing their gamertags, or their username with Microsoft and Xbox. You should’ve chosen a gamertag when you created your Microsoft Account for gaming . You can find your friends using their gamertags, and other players can find you by using yours.

    To make things even easier, you can search for friends, create and join games, and even invite other players all from within Minecraft Dungeons.

    If you’re starting a new game, you’ll see this Friends menu, which lets you toggle between an online and offline game lobby or toggle a private game . Add friends by searching for their gamertags, or join friends who are already in a lobby.

    Once you’ve created a game lobby, you can invite friends who are online to join you. Keep in mind, this doesn’t always work, depending on where that friend is playing. Inviting works great to and from Xbox and Windows platforms, but Switch and PS4 can only send invites, not receive them. This means it can be a little trickier to set games up on Switch and PS4.
