How To Use Mending

Get MENDING VILLAGERS FAST in Minecraft

Firstly, you need to apply the Mending Enchantment Book to any of the compatible items. You can do this using an anvil. If you dont know how to craft an Anvil, its made out of 31 Iron Ingots. Create 3 Iron Blocks along the top row of a crafting table, then an upside down T shape using Iron Ingots below.

In an Anvil, you can place your tool, weapon or armor item in the first slot. In my case, Im applying the enchantment to a Diamond Sword. Then in the second slot, after the + symbol, you should place the Enchanted Book. This is a good opportunity to also rename the item if you wish, by using the text box at the top of the window.

There will be an Enchantment Cost, which might be around 2 Levels or so. Once done, pull the item out and it should have Mending bound to it. Now, whenever you have the item equipped and you pick up experience orbs, it will repair the item automatically.

How To Get Mending Books

Mending can be found on almost any weapon or tool in Minecraft that has durability. Any experience gained for Mending an item will be used to repair it at a rate of 2 durabilities per point. Minecraft players will not receive experience if an item is being fixed. Mending repairs only items in a players hand, offhand, or armor slot and not in their inventory.

A player can only have one item that has Mending on it at any one time. The experience will go to the randomly selected one. It is currently not possible to repair items in priority order. However, this may change in future versions of Minecraft.

Getting A Villager To Sell Mending Books In Minecraft

The short answer as to how to get a mending villager is simply trial and error. They can be found in villages, but it’s much easier to deal with them if they’re in a confined space.

Once the villager is confined, it will take the first available job block, so players should ensure that there are none nearby. Turning them into a librarian will require a lecture.

Having a bed also helps as once their trades are set, they can sleep and restock them.

A lecturn is crafted with four wooden slabs and a bookshelf. Place the item next to the villager and it should turn into a librarian. Check the trade by clicking on it. Players can even determine whether or not it’s a book.

All books are available through trade, so the odds of discovering Mending I are fairly low. If it’s a bookshelf or book that isn’t Mending I, then players need to exit and break the lecturn.

Why The Mending Enchantment Is So Good In Minecraft

Were talking about all of these farms, but you might not know why books of mending are even worth getting in the first place. To put it simply, think of the enchantment like unbreaking on steroids. Rather than giving your item a chance not to use up durability, it actively repairs your item while you play, like a built-in portable anvil.

How it works is by using up XP, you get out in the world to repair your item rather than it going to your player level. This means that in situations where youre mining, the XP you get from coal is essentially going to allow you to use your pickaxe indefinitely.

The downside to this, of course, is that youre not going to be able to level up. However, if youre at a point in your game where youre looking to use this kind of enchantment, you should already have an XP farm set up, so this shouldnt be a problem.

Minecraft: How to get Mending

Mending is classed as a treasure enchantment which means it cannot be created with the use of an Enchanting Table.

A treasure enchantment can only be obtained in the following ways:

  • Equipment or Books from Chest Loot
  • Fishing
  • Enchanted Book Trades & Bartering
  • Dropped by a Raiding Illager

First and foremost, players can find books or equipment that have Minecrafts Mending enchantment from chests that spawn around the world. These are usually hidden in temples, mines, or other hidden areas. As each world is procedurally-generated, there are no specific directions we can give you to find these, youll need to simply explore and track them down yourself.

Books and other items with the Mending enchantment can also be fished out of the water with a Fishing Rod. You can increase your chances of getting an enchanted item out of the water by using a Fishing Rod with the Luck of the Sea enchantment.

Another way of obtaining Minecrafts Mending enchantment is by trading and bartering with a Librarian villager. This will require that you have a lot of Emeralds to trade for them, so make sure youve got a good supply of these in your inventory.

Finally, theres a chance that you can pick up an enchanted book from a raiding mob. Specifically, its the pillagers and vindicators that have a chance of dropping an enchanted book. The problem is, theres no guarantee of which enchantment it will be.

How To Get The Mending Enchantment

I have a skeleton farm and I enchanted DOZENS of items already. I never saw “mending” though. The Wiki says, that you find this on the lower enchanting levels, but I never saw it.

Note: Before I enchant an item, I look through all of them and check on each what I would get: Helmet, Chestplate, Leggings, Boots, Sword, Bow. I think chances that I really never could have seen it are pretty low.

Can you get this enchantment only from the end and from books? I saw some enchanted items in the end cities with mending.

Mending is a treasure enchantment, which you can only find in the world, you can not create it yourself on an enchanting table.

Treasure enchantments can be obtained by

  • Fishing
  • Chests in dungeons, temples, mineshafts, End cities etc.
  • Trading

Mending can be found on many items, including, for example, Fishing Rods.

How To Use An Enchanted Mending Book

To use the enchantment nook, Minecraft players will have to make an anvil. Put the item to be enchanted in the first slot of the anvil, and add the Mending Book to the second. If it does not work, players may not have enough experience to enchant the item they have chosen.

Mending is also incompatible with the Infinity enchantment found on some bows. However, it can be applied mutually on items with Unbreaking, essentially making those items near indestructible.

Tips On Fishing For Mending

Ever since fishing was changed in Minecraft’s 1.16 update, the mechanics have been altered to balance AFK fish farms. It’s no longer possible to fish for treasure in single water block AFK fish farms. Since Mending enchantment books are considered treasures, this has significantly impacted how often players can hope to fish for a Mending book.

The new requirements according to Minecraft Wiki are as follow: the bobber now needs to be in an open water area, which is at least a 5 by 4 by 5 area. Every block in this area must consist of either air, water, or waterlogged blocks.

How to Get Mending Enchantment in Minecraft Survival – Easiest Method

Mending is an enchantment that can be on just about any tool or weapon in Minecraft with durability. When an item has Mending, any experience collected will go to repair the item at the rate of 2 durability per experience point. When an item is being repaired, it uses up the experience so Minecraft players won’t receive the experience that is being used to fix it. Mending only repairs items in a player’s hand, off-hand, or armor slots, and not in the player’s inventory.

If a player has several items that have Mending on them, only one is repaired at a time –the experience goes to a randomly chosen one of these. There isn’t a priority system in place for repairing items first, though that may change in future updates of Minecraft.

Getting Mending Enchantment Books

In order to put a mending enchantment on an item, players have to first come across a mending book. While most Minecraft enchantments can be created using an enchanting table, Mending, unfortunately, cannot. This means that players have to buy, find, or loot these books instead.

  • Fishing – Mending enchantment books can be fished up from water sources just like fish in Minecraft. While some consider fishing boring, it is one of the easiest and fastest ways of getting Mending for items.
  • Looting Chests – Mending enchantment books can be found in Dungeon Chests, Temples, End Cities, and most other kinds of chests found around the map. If players are already out and about looking for loot, they will most likely find a Mending book or two without any extra effort.
  • Trading – Look for a villager who is a librarian and trade with them. Librarians will trade one random enchantment book for an emerald.

Q What Is The Best Thing To Put On Mending In Minecraft

Your favorite pickaxe is probably a good call. Anything and everything you can put Mending on is a good decision to make, but prioritize the tools, weapons, and armor you use the most. I prefer to put mending on my armor pieces as they are more expensive to make than tools. Next would involve my pickaxe as pickaxes will tend to pick up experience simply from mining ore.

How To Repair A Trident In Minecraft

Thankfully, that is not the only way to repair a Trident in Minecraft. Players also have the option of combing a damaged Trident with a new one at an anvil. The benefit to this is that the enchantments on the trident will be preserved if there are any, and players won’t lose some potentially very strong advantages. Players with two Tridents who need repair and who are not worried about losing enchantments can place them both in a grindstone to get back one perfect Trident.

The final way to repair a Trident is by using the mending enhancement to fix it. Mending enhancement books can be found by fishing, looting chests, trading with villagers, or by turning a villager into a Librarian. Players can then place the Trident into an anvil and place the mending book in another slot.

Players who don’t have a Trident will need to get one from a Drowned, one of the most terrifying hostile mobs in Minecraft. Drowned are zombies who have met their end in bodies of water and can spawn in any ocean biome or river biome at light level seven or less. If a player kills a Drowned, it will have a small chance to drop a Trident. This is the only way to get a Trident, and they cannot be crafted or obtained by any other means.

Minecraft is available now on Mobile, New Nintendo 3DS, Nintendo Switch, PC, PS4, and Xbox One.

Then players will be able to trade with them again and try for a Mending book.

Why Mending Is The Best

In case you didn’t already know, Mending is an enchantment that allows you to refill the enchanted item’s durability bar using experience orbs. Normally, you would have to repair an enchanted item by combining it with its core material at an anvil. For example, if you have a diamond sword that’s enchanted, you can repair its durability by combining it with diamonds at your anvil.

However, depending on how often you do this and how expensive your enchantments are on it, you’ll need a ton of diamonds. This is why Mending is better because you save on your resources and restore durability with experience points instead.

Formula For Uses Restored

The formula for determining how many uses a repaired item can have restored to it in the crafting box, is as follows:

min, Max uses)

where “floor” means round down to the smaller integer, and “min” means the smallest of x or y.

Example: Two stone axes have 10 and 45 uses. A newly crafted stone axe would have 132 uses.

10 + 45 + 132/20 = 55 + 6.6 = 61

Or, in terms of percentage :

7.5% + 34% + 5% = 46.5%

Thus, the greatest benefit is gained when the two items have a combined durability of at most approximately 95%. You can combine 47.5% + 47.5%, 94% + 1%, 10% + 10% or any other values that total 95% or less. The order in which items are combined does not matter one sequence of repairs gives exactly the same durability as any other.

However, note in the example, repairing a stone tool restores a bonus of 6 durability, which is actually only 6/132 = 4.5%. The precise combined durability for efficient repairs is shown in the following table.

Item
95.1% 366

A good strategy is to wear down two items until both have less than 95% combined durability remaining. If the resulting repaired item still has a damage bar, then the item has gained the full 5% repair bonus for combining those two items, otherwise some of the repair bonus was likely lost. A perfect repair is theoretically possible, but unlikely in practice. Combining items whose combined durability is more than 100% actually wastes more resources than simply using tools until they break.
