Collecting Honey And Honeycombs From A Bee Nest In Minecraft

How to Harvest Honey and Honeycombs from a Bee Nest in Minecraft Version 1.15

Collecting Honey by Hand

You can harvest honey from a bees nest by walking up to it with an empty bottle and picking it out, using the item. The empty bottle is going to fill up with the honey for you to take away, consume, or use how you want. However, theres a catch: the bees are going to become immediately hostile to you when you steal their honey. Youre going to need to run away, and if they sting you, theyre going to die shortly afterward because honey bees do not live long without their stinger inside them.

To prevent the bees from dying and attacking you, place a campfire underneath the nest. Doing so turns the bees passive, preventing them from attacking you, and you get to ensure they can collect more honey for you in the future.

Collecting Honeycombs

Unfortunately, you cant locate a bee nest in Minecraft and expect to grab honeycombs as quickly as you would the honey. When you collect honeycombs from a bee nest, youre going to destroy the home. But, youre going to need those honeycombs to make a beehive for yourself. Youre going to need a particular tool to collect the delicious reward inside a bees home.

You need to use sheers to remove it. Doing so prevents the materials of the bee nest from being destroyed, allowing you to take the honeycombs. You can then use them in other recipes, or make a series of beehives to give the bees a new home in your backyard or near your garden.

Craft A Beehive And Scaffolding Base

Now its time to craft a beehive. Youll need six wood planks and three honeycomb pieces for this recipe. Once you have the resources, follow these steps to get started:

  • Place the wood planks in every box along the top row and bottom row.
  • Set the honeycomb pieces in all three boxes in the middle row. It should look like a honeycomb sandwich with the planks as the bread pieces.
  • Take your new beehive and place it in your inventory.
  • If you want to get fancy, you can also make a Scaffolding Base for your new beehive. It isnt a requirement to harvest honey, but it makes your beekeeping set-up look fancy. Youll need six bamboo sticks and some string to make the base.

Heres the crafting recipe for a scaffolding base:

  • Place the string in the top-middle box.
  • Place the bamboo pieces along the sides of the box with the string. Youll have bamboo in the first boxes of the top row, middle row, and last row. Bamboo pieces also go into the last boxes of each row with nothing in the boxes directly underneath the string.
  • Drag your scaffolding and place it into your inventory.
  • Add Items To Make A Beehive

In the crafting menu, you should see a crafting area that is made up of a 3×3 crafting grid. To make a beehive, place 6 wood planks and in the 3×3 crafting grid.

When crafting with wood planks, you can use any kind of wood plank, such as , , , , , , , or planks. In our example, we are using oak wood planks.

When making a beehive, it is important that the wood planks and honeycombs are placed in the exact pattern as the image below. In the first row, there should be 3 wood planks. In the second row, there should be 3 honeycombs. In the third row, there should be 3 wood planks. This is the Minecraft crafting recipe for a beehive.

Now that you have filled the crafting area with the correct pattern, the beehive will appear in the box to the right.

How To Harvest Bees In Minecraft

Once the player locates the beehive, they have a few different options for harvesting them.

    • Campfire: Placing a campfire under the beehive will set them to calm mode. This allows players to get close and personal and harvest their honey using empty bottles.
    • Flowers: The player can use a flower to lure the bees outside of their hive. Players can then move the bees to a new location or attach a leash to them to move them to a new location. It’s important to mention that the bees won’t go very far when using the flowers.
    • Honeycombs: Once the bee’s nest is at a higher level, players can use sheers that are used on sheep to harvest honeycombs. Players can then use these with a combination of planks to make their own beehives. This is great for moving bees to their new homes.

Which should hopefully give you a reason to stay clear, or you know, just treat the bee with the respect it deserves.

The honey Minecraft bee is part of the Minecraft Java Edition, and adds what Mojang calls a large bug to the lineup of Minecraft mobs. Modders have already created Adventure Time and Bee Movie mods for the bee update, as well as a mod that lets you ride bees in Minecraft by attaching saddles.

Aside from being adorable, Minecraft bees are also resourceful and just want to live the good life, gathering pollen and helping you grow your crops. They dont like rain and sleep at night aww but can be used to collect honey or craft your very own beehive.

How You Can Make a Minecraft Beehive Farm – Minecraft Bees Guide

Now that you’ve placed your Beehive somewhere new, you’ll need to convince the Bees to move in there. Thankfully, each Beehive only holds three Bees, so it won’t be a process you need to repeat too many times.

The traditional ways to do this for other animals also work on bees:

    • Using leads
    • Luring

However, the most convenient method is by using the Silk Touch enchantment. In the rain and at night, bees return to their hive. You can pick up the hive at that time and all the bees inside will travel with it. Then, just place it in the preferred location.

Whats The Difference Between A Bee Nest And Bee Hive In Minecraft

Given we just got a new mob in Minecraft, youd expect every new item relating to it would be unique and interesting. There arent any real differences between the new Bee Nest and Bee Hive other than one is a natural spawn while the other is crafted. But that doesnt mean theyre pointless.

Crafting a Bee Hive gives you a way to cultivate your own colony of these helpful creatures anywhere you want. They can be bred with the use of flowers and actually help other flowers grow. That means you can provide a home for the bees, breed them, and harvest near-endless supplies of Honey from the Bee Hives when the bees dance around your gardens.

How To Get Bees In A Beehive In Minecraft

Getting bees in a beehive is not tricky in Minecraft. The method is the same as you have used for getting bees in Minecraft. There are two ways for getting bees in a beehive in Minecraft.

    • Getting bees will require you some flowers in Minecraft. You can collect flowers of any kind from different Minecraft biomes. Minecraft bees will easily attract the flowers, and chances are that they will enter into love mode.
    • You can also attach a lead to the Minecraft bees. That lead will help you take the bees to the beehives or bees nest in Minecraft. If you dont have a lead in your inventory, you can make one. Ensuring Bees Won’t Attack

Before you can take anything from the Beehive or Bee Nest, you’ll need to ensure you won’t upset the bees first. If they do become angry, they will sting you and subsequently die.

To avoid this catastrophe of Bee suicides, you’ll need to light campfires under the Beehive or Bee Nest. When there is smoke passing through it, Bees won’t become angered if you harvest from them.

What you do once you’ve harvested, though, depends on what version of Minecraft you’re running.

If you’re on the Bedrock Edition: bees can be damaged by fire, so the fire needs to be put out immediately after you’ve finished harvesting.

If you’re on the Java Edition: bees can still be damaged by fire, but it’s possible to put a carpet over the top of the fire. This covered campfire won’t damage the bees, it’ll only create smoke. You can leave it there permanently now! If you plan to use this method, however, be sure to put two blocks of space between the Beehive or Bee Nest and the ground, so there’s space for both items.

Minecraft: Using Silk Touch Or Creative Mode To Remove Bee Nests

Minecraft Guide to Bees: Honey blocks, beehives, release ...

There are a few ways to break bee nests in Minecraft to avoid the ire of bees. Specifically, using a tool with the Silk Touch enchantment or switching to Creative Mode and breaking the hive there if players are in Survival or Adventure Mode.

Since Silk Touch drops the original broken block instead of any of its byproducts , it can break bee nests and have them drop in one piece.

One of the upsides is that any bees inside the hive will remain inside and can be transported to a new location wherever the nest is placed.

However, Minecraft: Bedrock Edition players should keep in mind that breaking a bee nest with Silk Touch will still upset any bees that aren’t currently inside of the nest, so they should make sure that as many bees are inside as possible.

For Minecraft players in Survival Mode and Adventure Mode, using console commands to switch to Creative Mode can also help. In Creative Mode, bee nests can be broken in one hit and also drop themselves with bees inside.

Players on single-player worlds who do not have cheats enabled to use console commands can select “Open to LAN” in their pause menu or enable cheats in their settings menu in Bedrock Edition. Minecraft’s multiplayer servers can be slightly trickier, as players will need to have the appropriate privileges to enter console commands.

    Bee Nests Vs Beehives

There is a difference between beehives and bee nests. A bee nest is a block that spawns in trees. The nest is spawned, and cannot be crafted.

Beehives, on the other hand, can only be crafted. They are essentially crafted versions of bee nests. To craft this, you will need

    • 6 planks
    • 3 honeycombs

Beehives are like an ‘overflow’ housing for bees that you breed. A bee nest can only hold 3 bees, so if you breed more, then they will move into the hive. This is important if you are planning on making a bee farm for materials. After bees have moved into the hive, it functions just like a bee nest. After the bees get to work, you can harvest honey and honeycomb. As long as the bees are alive, you can continue harvesting materials.

That’s all there is to know about bees! Now get out there and make your own honey farm.

How To Get Honey From A Bee Nest In Minecraft

First, find a bee nest out in the wild. You will find them in several biomes, but they are most common in Plains, Sunflower Plains, and Flower Forests. Theyre attached to trees, and youll usually spot them easily because bees will be flying nearby. Each bee nest spawns with three bees, and theyll fly nearby to get pollen from flowers.

Once the bees have collected enough honey and brought it back to the nest, it will start dripping. Now its ready to be harvested. To get the honey, use shears on the nest. Up to 3 honeycomb will drop out.

However, any bees that were inside the hive when you used the shears will become angry and sting you. The bees that sting will also die after a few seconds, meaning its a bad outcome for you both.

To avoid bee stings, place a campfire directly under the bees nest. The smoke keeps the bees from attacking when you harvest the nest with shears.

Once you have enough honeycomb, you can use it to craft your own bee hives, which are player-made versions of bee nests. You can place your bee hives wherever you like, but youll need to attract bees to it first. To get a bee to follow you, hold a flower in your hand or place a lead on the bee. The bee will go wherever you go.

    What Is Honeycomb Used For

The main use of honeycomb in Minecraft is to create beehives, the manmade version of a bee nest.

These hives look a lot cleaner and pristine compared to the natural bee nest and are a lot more accessible, as beehives can be made with wood and honeycomb.

To collect bee nests in a player’s survival inventory, the player must use a silk touch tool to collect the nest, which can take ages to accomplishespecially early in-game.

The reason for seeking out Bee Nests should be obvious to collect Honey and Honeycombs! These arent incredibly helpful items in their own right, but they can be used for a variety of purposes.
