Uses For The Snowball

How to get snowballs in Minecraft

Snowballs can only be used for two purposes in the game:

4 Snowballs can be used to craft a Snow Block.

Snowballs can be thrown by holding them in the hand and clicking in the direction. They travel through the air on a downward path. However, they do not deal damage to most of the mobs in the game.

The only mobs that they deal damage to, are the Blazes. They deal 3 health point damage to them but not to any other mobs. However, it is important to note that the snowballs still give off the damage effect to mobs even though they deal no damage. This means that even though thy deal no damage, the hostile mobs will still attack the players.

Fun Fact: Players can destroy End Crystal in the Ender Dragon fight using Snowballs.

Can You Obtain Snowballs Without A Shovel

  • 2I’m voting to reopen this question, because I understand it very well indeed: The question is whether it is possible to get a snowball item into your inventory without ever having used a shovel. And it’s not a bad question, since the definitively true answer is pretty complicated, as seen in my answer.Feb 8 ’19 at 10:28

Materials Needed For A Snow Farm

How to get snowballs from snow

You will only need four different types of blocks to build this farm. Check them out below, as well as how to get them.

  • Two Snow Blocks
  • One Building Block
  • Four Glass Blocks

Before building a snow farm, you will need to have found snow at least once. Using a tool enchanted with silk touch, just gather two snow blocks. If you don’t have anything enchanted with silk touch, that’s okay. Breaking a snow block with a tool will drop four snowballs. From your inventory, you can craft the snowballs into a block.

To obtain a jack-o-lantern, use a pair of shears on a pumpkin. Pumpkins can be found around villages, as well as any biome that has grassy areas.

With the 1.17 update, we also have the addition of powdered snow. This farm does not work with powdered snow.

How Many Snowballs Can You Get With A Shovel

A shovel without the Silk Touch enchantment can get 4 snowballs by breaking a snow block, and 18 snowballs by breaking or blasting snow layers one per layer. The Fortune enchantment does not affect these amounts.

As Owen said snowballs cannot physically kill you. Though they do shake your health bar as if you got attacked, they dont do any damage to remove a heart. However they can kill a player/mob if the projectile hits them off an edge thats high enough to kill them. Its the same deal with eggs.

The next thing you need to do is place gray concrete blocks on the sides and top of dispensers to make a complete wall. And fill all of three dispensers with snowballs.

Go back to the other side of this wall and place a lever on the ground near the repeaters.

Pull the lever to launch snowballs out of the dispensers. Pull the lever back if you want to stop these snowballs.

How To Make Snowballs That Explode On Impact

You can do this with two commands, each one in a repeating command block.

The first command will create an area_effect_cloud at each snowball every tick. The are effect cloud is set to disappear after 1 tick, so there should only ever be 1 per snowball around at a time. The AEC also has a tag to keep all AEC’s from causing explosions.

The second command makes all AECs with the correct tag check to see if they still have a snowball near them. If they don’t, then they summon primed tnt. This tnt will explode the next tick.

Snowball Breaks When It Hits Obstacles

Carefully roll the snowball so that it won’t hit any obstacles. If the snowball hits a tree or falls in the water, you’ll have to find new snowball and roll again. In order to make new snowballs spawn, enter and exit a building.

S To Build A Snow Farm

Now that you have all the materials for this farm, let’s get started! Place your building block and then use your glass blocks to frame the top. Above, you can see that the four glass blocks are surrounding the building block.

From the side, you should see the building block, an empty space, and then the glass above.

The glass placement is to prevent the snow golem from escaping. If you place the glass lower, the golem will just jump over and escape.

To create the snow golem, place your two snow blocks on top of the building block. This is the snow golems body.

Be sure that all the glass is in place before continuing on.

Next, place the jack-0-lantern on the snow blocks. The three blocks should now transform into the snow golem.

The snow golem will be confined to this area. Snow will generate underneath the golem, which can be gathered. Gathering the snow will generate more, leaving you with an endless supply of snow. The snow gathered will be in the form of snowballs, but you can craft that into snow blocks.

Unlike other mobs, snow golems take damage from the rain. If your snow farm is out in the open, consider adding a roof to protect the golem. That’s all there is to the snow farm! Stand near the bottom to collect the snow.

    Piston Based Automated Snowball Farm

On Bedrock Edition snow layers can be broken by moving a block or piston head into the space occupied by snow layers, dropping snowballs. A simple fully-automated farm can therefore be made using a snow golem to create snow layers, breaking those layers using pistons and collecting the snowballs via hoppers. It is also possible to create a semi-automated snow block farm by pushing the snowballs into the player inventory, using a dropper, where they can be easily crafted into snow blocks as the farm runs.

EXPLODING SNOWBALLS in Minecraft [1 Command]

The snowy biomes in Minecraft can give any player the feel of the holiday season. Being in the snow in Minecraft is a great way to find rare items, like igloos, that always have excellent loot, as well as rabbits, foxes, and unique mobs.

While snow in Minecraft does look decorative, there are other uses for the snow.

Minecraft has snow and snow blocks. Regular snow covers ground blocks when there is snowfall in Minecaft biomes that feature snow. Biomes where snowfall can happen are snowy tundra, ice spikes, frozen oceans, snowy taiga, frozen river and snowy beach.

The only way to mine snow is with an enchanted shovel that has silk touch. If snow is mined with a regular shovel, it will destroy the snow itself and result in a snowball being dropped. If tools are used nothing will drop from the snow.

Snow blocks, on the other hand, are full-sized blocks made of four snowballs. If they are touched with the silk-touched shovel, they will drop themselves, but when mined with a regular shovel will cause them to drop four snowballs.

How To Make A Snowball In Minecraft

This Minecraft tutorial explains how to craft a snowball with screenshots and step-by-step instructions.

In Minecraft, a snowball is an item that you can not make with a crafting table or furnace. Instead, you need to find and gather this item in the game.

Let’s explore how to add a snowball to your inventory.

Make An Infinite Supply Of Snowballs

How could I use a command to give a player an infinite supply of snowballs that do 5 hearts of damage? There was a bug where you could summon infinite items in snapshot 13w36a, which right here:

    /summon Item ~ ~ ~ }

The item count is set to 128, which is what I believe causes this glitch, Unfortunately after reading around a bit, I was led to believe that this bug was patched, due to being prevelant in a development snapshot. So, how could I summon an infinite supply of snowballs that do 5 hearts of damage?

The infinite supply bug still works fine. Your problem there is rather simple, you just forgot to capitalise the “C” in “count”. This should work properly:

    /summon Item ~ ~ ~ }

The wiki has some nice pages on NBT data which I use to get the format and names right:

Doing 5 hearts of damage is not something that NBT data can do to a snowball I don’t even think any data is carried over from the snowball item to the thrown snowball entity. The best you could do is perhaps have a fast clock with this on it:

Which would make a thrown snowball constantly give players within 2 blocks instant damage II for 10 ticks. The thrower would also likely take damage though, and it would be subject to lag.
