How To Make A Water Elevator In Minecraft 7 Easy Steps

Minecraft: How to make a working Elevator (easy)

Minecraft is a highly addictive game. The interest stems from the fact that you can build almost everything as per your imaginations. But for this, you may have to move around a lot in the game. And if you are not using any speed hacks or mods to help you, getting up and down is time-consuming. Thats why pro players build water elevators. But how can you craft one, and whats required to do it?

The first step is to build an elevator shaft going up or down at the location of your preference using building blocks. Make sure there is an open space in the center of those blocks. Place water blocks in the empty spaces between the building blocks when the structure reaches your desired height. The bottom-most block should be soul sand or magma .

Building stuff is what everybody loves in Minecraft. But in the Survival mode, you may worry about the mobs lurking around to disrupt your gameplay. Hence, a water elevator will help you go up and down quicker than any other method if you want to avoid such mobs. Thats why I am going to tell you how to craft it. Lets get to know about building a water elevator from scratch.

Java Breathable Water Elevator

A basic water elevator that works well in survival mode can be made in any vertical shaft that is 2 blocks by one block.

The shaft for this design is 2 blocks deep and one wide.

Bottom-up construction

Starting at the bottom the entrance to the shaft should be in a wall that is at least one block thick. The entrance should be a 2 block high opening with a door set in the last blocks space before the two deep space for the elevator. The door is to keep the bottom two water sources from leaking out the opening. Now, step into the shaft and place signs in a zigzag up one of the 2 block wide walls as high as you can reach. Then, fill in the gaps between signs with water sources, thus forming a zigzag of water blocks. Reload on water buckets and ride the elevator up as high as you can, place more signs as you bob up and down in the topwater block, and then place more sources. Repeat till you reach the top.

Top-down construction

Have at least two full water buckets in inventory when you start this procedure.

One rises in the elevator by swimming, going down is just falling.

As one rides up or down the breath meter may flash in and out of view unless you can stay perfectly in the middle of the alternating water blocks, but no matter as you are never more than a few ticks from your next “breath”.

This kind of elevator is faster than a falling water stream due to the swimming action between water source blocks.

Make An Upward Elevator

Assuming you need to make a vertical elevator, go to the foundation of your Elevator in Minecraft. From that point forward, break the kelp and utilize a spirit sand block as the foundation of the focal point of the elevator. It will make you go up from the base when you stroll through the elevator entrance.

Required Items For A Water Elevator In Minecraft

How To Make A Command Block Elevator On Minecraft 1.8.8 ...

It’s very cheap to make a water elevator, and all of the items required can be acquired after you have accessed the Nether for the very first time. This is because Soul Sand is an essential part of the water elevator. You’ll need:

  • 1 block of Soul Sand
  • 2 signs of any type
  • Building blocks of your choice

Three: Place The Water

You need a lot of water source blocks for this step. With the Magma Blocks and Soul Sand placed, grab two Water Buckets. Place one on any of the four blocks at the base, and place the other Water Bucket on the block in the opposite corner. This will create an infinite water supply from which you can collect the water for the next level.

From here, you need to repeat the step above on every level of your water elevator. The reason for this is that the bubbles created by the Soul Sand and Magma Blocks only work on Water Source blocks, not running water.

Once you have done all this, you will have a basic working bubble elevator! You can edit the blocks around it as you wish to make the elevator more aesthetically pleasing. However, you always need to have the Magma Blocks and Soul Sand at the bottom of the elevator. You must also have a Water Source block at ever level.

Building The Top Of The Elevator

For the top, you can build it as high as youd like, but you will be needing more Redstone, another button, Obsidian, and a regular Piston. So at the top, build a frame for your elevator, and at the center of that frame, you are going to attach the Obsidian on one side and the button block on the other. Then, place a decorative block to the back of the Obsidian. This block will be used to attach the regular Piston beneath it. Make sure you use a regular Piston as a Sticky Piston will cause the entire elevator to stop.

After that, all you need to do is run a line of Redstone on the top of those four blocks. When you press the button, it will activate the piston and push the mechanism downwards. And there you have it! This is one of the easier ways to build an elevator. Its also customizable. So, go ahead and make it as big or small as youd like. Just as long as it fits in your Minecraft world and the adventures you have in it. However, just in case you need a more visual reference, here is a video of an even simpler elevator design!

A water-sign elevator can also be made in a one-block shaft, which is cheaper if making it as a freestanding column. The construction notes are written for survival mode.

  • Infinite water source
  • construction block of your choice

Enclose a 1Ã1 vertical shaft with your construction blocks on all four sides, corners are not needed.

Top-down construction

This method is more useful when building a freestanding elevator up from a floor. One can tower up from the floor, placing blocks on all four sides at each jump on the way up. Then start placing signs and water back down.

Start by placing your safety net on the ground – make a one-block hole and fill it with a water source. When you fall from high up in the shaft, a single block of water is enough to break your fall so you take no damage.

Once you are at the intended top of your elevator place signs two and four blocks below your feet. You cannot reach down 6 blocks so now you can start with the water sources. Put one on top of each sign, then ready your signs, more full buckets, and jump in. Use the swimming action to stay in the bottom-most water block and place signs further down the shaft, then place another water bucket above this last sign .

Bottom-up construction

If you need to have an opening taller than 2 blocks place ladders up the back wall of the shaft to the highest block of the opening. The bottom-most water block then sits on top of the ladder.

How To Make A Water Elevator In Minecraft: Step

Step 1: Simply start by finding where you want this elevator to be. ones gonna be anywhere then surround the block in glass blocks beside one side. Now bring these blocks all the way up just like this as shown in the image until you find your height. All right, this elevator is tall enough for me.

Step 2: Now go back down to the bottom to your open side, youre going to go inside this little tube remade, put down a door on the open block. So the door should be touching the glass like so.

Step 3: Now what youre going to do is to build upon this door, the rest in the glass. So just like this as shown in the image all the way back up to the top so it all connects together like so. So youll see its a giant tube with a door.

Step 4: Now go back up to your top, put down a water source on this top block going all the way down.

Step 5: Now take out your kelp, you are going to line this entire thing with kelp. This is because it turns all the water blocks in there into source blocks. This means when you go back down there and when you break the kelp just put down a piece of soul sand, then it turns into an upward elevator.

Step 7: Now do the same tube method with these three sides and the other door right there do the exact same thing. But again, a magma block on the bottom not a piece of soul sand. And boom that is a functioning two-way elevator.

Add A Simple Clock Circuit

Place some redstone and a redstone repeater as shown below:

The arrow on the repeater is pointing left to right. Right click once on the repeater to add a short delay to the circuit, otherwise the torch will burn out. When you finish, the circuit should start switching on and off . You can read more about clock circuits here.

Each time the repeater switches the block in front of it on, it will activate the bottom dropper, making an annoying clicking noise.

What You Need To Make A Water Elevator

How To Make An Elevator In Minecraft Bedrock Edition

There are several types of water elevators you can make. Crafty players have found ways to make some amazing elevator designs, including faster elevators and breathable elevators. You can even use a well-placed elevator to reach areas filled with hostile mobs safely by using the overflow of your elevator.

In all types, you need buckets of water to place your water sources. The simplest version only needs a cleared block in a ledge and a water bucket.

More complex options need solid blocks like glass, wood, or brick depending on how you want it. If you want a breathable elevator, you can either use 1 soul sand block with plenty of kelp in Java edition or lots of signs. The goal is to make a column of water sources. Not all elevators work in all versions, so be sure to check what works in the version youre playing. For instance, you dont need kelp to convert flowing water to water sources in the Bedrock edition if you want to make a soul sand bubble elevator.

This guide will cover a soul sand elevator since they tend to be one of the faster designs and arent too difficult for beginners. This works for versions 1.13 and later.

For this tutorial, you need 1 soul sand block, glass panes or fences , water buckets and a water source, and kelp. You can construct from the bottom, but some may find it harder.

Soul Sand Block Elevator

Soul sand elevators combine all the elevators that weve mentioned before except this comes with a little more improvement. These elevators have bubbles moving upwards in the stack of water blocks kept on top of each other. And this gives it two advantages. First its faster than the staggered elevator, and second its breathable.

However, theres only one caveat though. The elevator does not work both ways as the water bubbles move upwards.
