Resetting the WorldWhen installing a custom Forge version, it is highly recommended to perform a world reset. Doing this ensures there wont be compatibility issues, especially when you are changing to an older version or if your previous world had mods. You can reset the world by selecting Create New World when changing versions to Custom.

Create a folder on your computer and name it something you will remember.

Head to the official Forge website. To the left of the page you will see a listing of all Minecraft versions.

Find the version of Minecraft that you want the server to run and click it.

Its best to stick with the recommended version but if you want to go with another one they will all be listed on this page.

Once you decide on which to download, click the Installer download.

Once you run the installer, it will open a popup. You will want to select Install Server.

Then press the 3 dots to the right of the popup to select the target directory.

Navigate to the folder you just created, select it and press Open.

Once its installed, go into the folder you created previously and you should see a libraries folder, a forge jar, and a minecraft_server jar. Rename the forge jar to custom.jar.

Uploading Forge to the server

Stop the server, then scroll to the jar dropdown on the panel, change the version to Custom and click save.

Access your server files via an FTP client such as Filezilla.

Open the jar folder and delete the contents inside if it is not already empty.

Using Minecraft Forge And Installing Mods

Login to your Multicraft control panel.

Check what version of Minecraft the mod you wish to add.

Stop your server then from the JAR dropdown, choose the correct Forge version for the Minecraft version. For some mods you may need to choose the Forge Beta alternative on the dropdown, rather than the recommended version.

Start/Restart your server, then once it is responding, stop it.

Start up your server, all the mods should now be ready to go!

The instructions assume that you have root access to your server. For simplicity I assume you are logging in as the root user. All of these commands will also work with sudo. If running sudo from your user account then make sure to add it when necessary. I will not be using sudo in front of these command line arguments throughout the document.

Give it a minute to download both the server and Forge files, then visit the installation folder. The next steps will look a whole lot like the vanilla Minecraft server setup.

Within the folder, run the forge.*.universal.jar file using the exact same command you used, based on your operating system from the vanilla installation portion of this tutorial.

The server will run and then halt, indicating as it did in the previous section that you need to accept the EULA. Open up the freshly created EULA.txt and edit the false to true just like last time.
