You have more than a few options for Minecraft Multiplayer some of which require an internet connection, while you can play other methods offline and from the same room.

Note: We’ve included instructions for both Minecraft Java Edition and Minecraft Bedrock Edition .

How To Create A Realm

Java Edition: First, you’ll need to purchase a subscription for a Realm . You can activate a 30-day free trial to test the waters and cancel anytime.

Once you have a subscription plan, open Minecraft and click Minecraft Realms. If this is your first time creating a Realm, click on . Here you can name your Realm and enter a brief description before choosing your world type.

Choose between generating a new world, uploading a previous world save, or explore Realms’ World templates, Adventures, and Experiences.

Now that you’ve created your Realm, choose Configure Realm and click on Players. Now all you have to do to whitelist a friend on your server is click Invite player and type in their username before clicking Invite player again. Your friend will receive an invitation to join your Realm.

Bedrock Edition: Minecraft BE is slightly different.

  • Start Minecraft BE and click Play. Head to Worlds and choose Create New.
  • Choose Create New World again.
  • Select Create on Realms from the left pane. Choose a 2 or 10 player Realm capacity.
  • For a 2 Player Realm: Name your Realm, read and agree to the terms and conditions, and select Create Realm.
  • For a 10 Player Realm: Select Buy Now from the navigation list. Name your Realm, read and agree to the terms and conditions, and select Start Free Trial.

    1. One of the players should launch a solo game world and enter the pause menu, where they’ll select “Open to LAN.”

    2. In the menu that opens, select the game mode and whether to allow cheats, then click The “Start LAN World.”

    3. The menu will then close, and the player will be shown a five-digit “port” number. Mark this number down. If it’s disappeared, press T to open the chat box and find it again.

    4. The other player or players on the same network should launch their “Java” game, but rather than jump into a world, click the “Multiplayer” option from the main menu.

    5. “Minecraft” will automatically start scanning for games on the shared local network. Click “Join Server” when the right world appears.

    6. If it doesn’t find the server, the players should click “Direct Connection.” In this menu, under “Server Address,” enter the IP address of the computer hosting the server, followed by a colon and the five-digit port number.

Setting up a multiplayer game in Minecraft is a simple process, but it varies slightly based on which platform youre using and whether your friends are nearby or half a world away. Here are all the ways to play Minecraft multiplayer.

    These platforms offer a handful of official servers. Join one simply by selecting one under the Servers tab.

    To add an external server with the Windows 10 version, select Add Server and enter the necessary information.

    The Add Servers option is not available on consoles due to platform restrictions.

    How To Play Split

    You will need to play the game on the console, as mentioned earlier. But before you can play local multiplayer, make sure you fulfill the criteria below.

  • Make sure you have at least 720p resolution on the console and TV you plug it in.For example, PSVita does not support split-screen as it is only qHD . And the WiiU is only 480p hence you cannot play the game in the desired setting.
  • You will also need to connect to the TV using an HDMI cable or similar since you will need the complete resolution supported by the console.
  • You should not play in the Beta version of Minecraft as well. If you are in Beta mode, disable it in-game and restart it.
  • You will also need an active subscription to the consoles service such as PlayStation Plus, Xbox Live Gold, or Nintendo Switch Online.
  • Once you have fulfilled the above requirements, follow the steps below to activate the split-screen in Minecraft.

  • Launch the game and select either create a new world or load your saved world.
  • Go to Multiplayer settings and turn it off.

  • Once the game begins, turn on the controller for player two and press Start. You will need to press Start again for the second player to join.
  • If you have an account for them, select it. If not, your friend can play as a guest. For instance, on PS3, if you hit cancel when the game prompts you to select the user, it will log the other player in as a guest.
