How To Find A Minecraft Village
Villages, just like other Minecraft structures, generate naturally when you create your Minecraft world. Villages can be found in the following biomes:
- Desert
- Taiga
- Snowy Tundra
The style and architecture of each village differs based on its biome. But mostly they consist of a smattering of houses, farms, and one or two larger structures, all connected by lit pathways. Villages are usually inhabited by villagers, cats, and farm animals but occasionally there will also be an Iron Golem protecting a village.
In Survival Mode, there’s no special way to find the nearest Minecraft village: you just have to start exploring any of the above biomes that you come across. Or, if you’d like, you can make things much easier for yourself by using one of the village spawns in our list of the best Minecraft seeds.

In Minecraft 1.14, it became possible for a new type of enemy, Pillagers, to raid Minecraft Villages. They will attempt to kill the Villagers using hatchets and crossbows, and you need to defend it.
The default villages are incredibly hard to defend as they remain exposed. If youre going to constantly make use of a village and its traders, then its worth knocking everything down. That way, you can rebuild the village from scratch so that buildings are much closer together. You can see that I have done on the images below.

What Can You Find In A Village
There’s a lot to a village beyond just the villagers themselves. Villages normally contain an assortment of houses and buildings, plots of crops, a well, and a central gathering point with a bell for alarms. Paths usually connect much of the village, with lampposts and other decorations adorning the edges.
Out of the houses you could potentially find beds, crafting tables, furnaces, bookshelves, brewing stands, fletching tables, campfires, and much more. Even more enticing are the chests that occasionally spawn inside of houses.
When a village is generated, many of the buildings may have a specific job assigned to them. A house for the librarian, a house for the farmer, a forge for the blacksmith, etcetera. The probabilities for each of these buildings is very complex, and actually changes depending on what biome the village is spawning in.
This causes two things. One, villagers who are assigned to those houses will often take the job associated with them. Two, those special buildings may have unique chests with special loot inside of them. There are far too many to go through every possibility, but basically each job has a chance of spawning a chest with different loot, as well as each biome having their own chest.

Place Doors In The Open Position
On Hard difficulty, zombies have the ability to break down wooden doors. This means that zombies can destroy the doors of your villagers houses and turn them. Thankfully, there are some loopholes to dealing with door-busting zombies. One trick is to place the wooden door so that when it appears to be closed, it is actually open.” Place the wooden door on the right side of the doorway so that it appears to be opened when you close the door, zombies will recognize it as open and be unable to break it. You may need to break the blocks next to your doorway to properly position the door this way. The only problem I had with this trick was that my villagers kept leaving the house, even when the zombies were knocking! While clever, this is not the best method for dealing with zombies at night.
Zombies were uninterested in my villagers with fence gates in front of the doors.

Since Minecraft 1.18 has launched, I’ve been totally wowed by the scale and beauty of its huge new caves and cliffs. I’ve visited dozens of worlds already just eyeballing lovely views. The thing is, landscapes are pretty good at obscuring the machine behind the world. I don’t typically look at a mountain range and try to figure out why it’s been generated in that particular shape. With Minecraft’s villages, the logic of the world is partially exposed for me to puzzle over. In the new 1.18 update, the entire jigsaw has gotten tossed on the ground.
Each Minecraft village has structures like houses and smithies and temples, all connected by paths, which the game’s world generator attempts to arrange in a sensible fashion. On a mostly flat area, Minecraft easily creates a branching town layout, all connected by tidy dirt paths that have no trouble navigating small hills.
Not in 1.18 though. No, no. The new update has me asking one question: are villages okay?

I’ve always enjoyed hunting for Minecraft villages, so I regularly use the Chunkbase seed finder to sleuth out seeds with villages close to the world spawn point. It’s not unheard of for villages to be poorly behaved in past versions, but since hunting for villages in 1.18 it seems like they are absolutely determined to act up.

S To Cure A Zombie Villager In Minecraft
1. Start by crafting a golden apple. You need 1 regular apple and 8 gold ingots for the crafting recipe. Apples are easy to find in village chests, and you can use our Minecraft 1.18 ore distribution guide to reach gold.
2. Then, you need to feed the golden apple to the zombie villager. You can do it by right-clicking or using the secondary key. Doing so will immediately play a sizzling sound. The zombie villagers eyes will turn red, and it will release red particles around it.
3. Now, keep in mind that the zombie villager gains extra strength during the curing process. So, its best to leave it trapped and wait for a few minutes. And after some time, you will find a regular villager in the house, having successfully cured the zombie in Minecraft.
How Long Does It Take to Cure a Zombie
Once you have fed the golden apple to a zombie villager, it takes around 1-2 minutes in the Bedrock edition and 3-5 minutes in the Java edition for the cure to take full effect. You can decrease this time by placing beds or iron bars around the zombie villager in Minecraft. The Players usually dont adopt any such measures to speed things up as it only brings about a 10% change.

6. Feed them Golden Apples.
7. Now theyll start trading with you and even potentially breed for more Villagers.
This method grants you discounted prices since the Villagers are grateful after you cure them. Our next method is harder, but Villagers are easier to get. You just need some patience.
1. Have a proper Village ready.
2. Make a boat.
3. Force a Villager into the boat by pushing them into it or driving it into a Villager.
4. Get into the boat and make the long trip to your Village.
5. Do it again if you want to breed the Villagers.
We did warn you that it would take longer. Boats work on the land, but theyre slow, and the mobs will be faster. This means you need to protect your Villager too.

The Best Way To Stop Villagers From Leaving The Village In Minecraft
Trade with them
Trading with the villagers has two benefits. Firstly, it maintains your good relationship with them, so they stay in the villager forever.
Secondly, you can get rare items and emeralds from them that make your survival mission effortless.
When you reach the village, spend some emeralds trading with them. By doing so, the villager will not go anywhere out of the village in Minecraft. If you are buying something from them, then why they will ignore you and their land?
Keep them happy
Another way to keep the villager stay in the village for a long is to keep them happy. And to keep them satisfied, you need to give them bread regularly.
Breed villagers
To stop your villager from disappearing from the village in Minecraft, you need to breed them. By doing so, the members will increase and stay there.
For that, make a house, place some beds, put two villagers inside the house, feed them bread and leave them alone. You will see a baby villager in your village.
Keep them safe

This process requires the least amount of resources and luck, however, it can be awfully dull and time-consuming. Plus, depending on how distant the nearest village actually is, you might have to go fight off monsters as you take the villager to your base. You might even have to go through the Nether to reduce the distance between your starting location and your destination.
You can kidnap a villager by using a boat. You can force villagers into a boat by pushing them or driving the boat into the villager. The villager will not escape unless the boat is broken so you can travel great distances this way.
Keep in mind that even though boats work on land, they’re extremely slow and can only go on flat ground so if your base isn’t close by, making a Nether portal might make this quicker. And, if you encounter monsters, they will be much faster than you so be sure to kill them and protect the villager.
Once you’ve done this, you will have to do it all over again, since you need two villagers.

I found a nice size village I am in the process of protecting. . But it is right on the edge of Plains and Extreme Hills Ravines. There is one extremely tall building with no door, because the building is halfway into the Extreme Hills. The “Grass path” look of the ground goes up the side of the hills all the way to the top.
How do I build a wall on the Extreme Hills terrain? Should I do some massive Terraforming to take the Extreme Hills part down to Plains level? Surely there is a better way…

Well, this is no extreme hills, but this is what I do.
I’ve done this on shear cliffs on other worlds that I can’t find now and even where there was an overhang, there I’d go straight up to the lip of the overhang and extend the wall inwards so it blocks the depression. You can pillar up using wall blocks as long as you get on top of the first piece.
And make sure there are no blocks next to the wall on the outside since you can jump over a two high wall from a block next to it.

Get some magma blocks and put them around the top of the cliff. Mobs won’t cross them.

Using The Locate Command
This command works on all Minecraft versions, such as:

- Windows 10 Edition
- Education Edition
To use this command, all you have to do is open the chat window and type /locate Village without quotation marks. The command will give you the coordinates to the nearest Village. Now all you need to do is to head over there and start trading.
