    Dealing With Minecraft Server Errors

Posted: Oct 25, 2016 in Minecraft

Whether youre a player attempting to join a server or among those who manage a server, youre bound to encounter a server related error. This immutable fact is inevitable with the ever-fickle nature of Minecraft server hosting and can take many forms. Some are less severe than others, but none the less can be bothersome when you or others are attempting to join. Fortunately, Minecraft servers are equipped to log all the activities that go on from the beginning to the end of its life cycle. This log is then readout using a GUI, we typically refer to this as the Server Console, the main mode of input and output for server related activities.

The server console is the go-to method for deducing these issues. It is the metaphoric voice of your server and in order to properly troubleshoot, its important to listen to it. Unfortunately, much of what it tells you may look like complete nonsense, an intimidating wall of text. While the latter is true, the former is subject to your capacity for recognizing the relevant information that is presented. Whats deemed relevant is also subjective, because of this it can be a troublesome task to discern the initial problem. Since the server doesnt know how to interpret the errors it receives in a more human-readable way, it is up to us to review what has been given and make sense of it so we can resolve the issue.

I created a Minecraft server on my computer, but it keeps crashing with the message “./start.sh: line 2: 2885662 Killed

java -Xmx 6G -Xms 1024M -jar fabric-server-launch.jar nogui”. I would like to know how to fix this, and if there is any way to make it automatically restart when it crashes.

I am running Ubuntu with 8 gigabytes of ram and a ryzen 3 CPU. Just let me know if you need more information.

Edit: I forgot to mention a few things. The number after where it says line 2 can change. It always has the same amount of digits and it always starts with a 2. The crashes happen most often when a player leaves the server. They also sometimes happen when there is no one in the server for a while. When this happens, it will say something like a tick took 60s and it is interpreting that as if the server crashed, then it gives me the same message as earlier. Lastly sometimes it gives me that message immediately after starting the server.
