How To Tame A Fox In Minecraft

How To Tame A Fox In Minecraft With Commands

If youre not in the mood to scour the world to find taiga biomes, you can summon foxes instead. They will still be wild, and youll need two of them to breed a tame fox, but this reduces the time you need to find them. However, before you can enter the commands, youll need to have cheats enabled for your world. To do this, follow these steps:

Java Edition New World

  • On the world selection screen, click on Create New World.
  • Before entering the world name, click on More World Options.
  • Proceed to create the new world.
  • Java Edition Existing World

  • When youre logged into your world, pause the game.
  • In the game menu, click on Open to LAN.
  • Proceed with the game. Do note that when you exit the game and open the map again, cheats will once again be turned off.
  • Bedrock Edition

  • On the home screen, click on the Cheats toggle to turn cheats on.
  • Note that achievements are locked when cheats are on.
  • Once you have cheats turned on, enter the following commands in the chat window. Chat is accessed by clicking on T on your keyboard on the Java Edition, and clicking or tapping on the chat icon on the top of your screen in the Bedrock Edition. Once the chat window appears, type in the following:

  • To summon a red fox:/summon Minecraft:fox ~ ~ ~
  • To summon a snow fox:/summon Minecraft:fox ~ ~ ~
  • To summon a random fox:/summon Minecraft:fox ~ ~ ~
  • Once youve summoned a couple of foxes, proceed to breed them as per the instructions given above.

    The Behavior Of Minecraft Foxes

Foxes in Minecraft that are untamed will do their absolute best to avoid you, this is why it is critical in the breeding process to sneak up on said foxes by crouching/sneaking.

After being tamed, however, foxes act as loyal friends in a similar fashion to a tamed wolf, as they will help you fight off hostile mobs and defend you until their last breath. Foxes can also be given swords to hold in their mouth in order to make their attacks significantly more powerful. To give your fox a sword, simply interact with it while holding the said sword.

Where Do Foxes Spawn In Minecraft

Mobs, of course, spawn naturally depending on the biome, with foxes spawning in the Taiga biomes. These cold forest biomes come in three varieties – normal, snowy and giant tree Taigas – with red foxes spawning at the normal Taigas and white foxes spawning at the snowy Taigas.

Foxes spawn here in groups of two to four, and there’s even a five per cent chance of finding a cute baby fox! However foxes are nocturnal animals that only spawn at night – so make sure you’re equipped to defend yourself. They’re also incredibly skittish, so make sure to sneak around them and bring plenty of their favourite food: sweet berries.

Similar to rabbits in Minecraft, foxes will dart away if players directly approach them. However, they will stay calmer if the player crouches while moving towards them. A clever tactic would be to carefully build a wooden pen around two foxes. This way, they cant escape the player but can stay close enough to each other for breeding. Feed them sweet berries to breed an adorable baby fox. Unlike its parents, the baby fox will not run away if approached by the player. However, it will only actively follow the player if its parents are either not near it or disposed of.

Players who do not wish to get rid of the baby foxs parents can use a lead to take the tame fox to its new home.

Minecraft foxes come in two colors: red and white. The red variety can be found in Taiga biomes, while the white Arctic variety spawns in Snowy Taiga biomes. Theyre one of Minecrafts only nocturnal mobs, so youll have a much easier time finding them out and about at night. During the day, they tend to look for shady spots to sleep. Keep this in mind youre looking for some during daylight hours. At nighttime, foxes will sometimes go to villages if one is nearby, so those might be good places to check as well.

You will need to go to a snow taiga biome and drop the egg there to get one to spawn.

Get The Baby Fox To Stop Following Its Parents

While the new baby fox might fall far from the tree in terms of attitude, if you leave it be, it’ll always stay with its parents. This means that if they run from you, it’ll run too.

You can fix this by attaching a lead to the baby fox, and walking it away from its parents. You can craft a lead by combining string and a slime ball, or randomly find one in a chest throughout the world.

Attach the lead by equipping it and using it on the baby fox. From there, you can gently lead him away to begin a new life with you. Once you’re a few chunks away, it’ll forget about its parents and stop following them.

Congratulations on earning your first tamed fox. And once you’re there, rinse and repeat: By continuing the same breeding process, you’ll soon have a whole brood of obedient fox friends.

Best Idea to TAME Minecraft Foxes?!

The original version of Minecraft, which has seen the most updates, is now known as the Java Edition. This version of the game runs on desktop computers, whether the system used is Windows, Linux, or macOS. Foxes were introduced to the game with its 1.14 update.

If you want to tame foxes, youll need to follow these steps:

  • First, if you want to tame a fox, youll need to know where it spawns. There are two types of foxes in the game, the snow fox with white fur, and the red fox with red coats. The snow fox roams wild on snowy taiga biomes, while its red cousin can be found either in taiga or giant tree taiga biomes. If youre new to the game and arent familiar with biome types, youll recognize taigas by their abundance of spruce trees and mountainous terrain. Giant tree taigas are essentially the same except the trees are much larger than normal. Snowy taigas are its snow-covered version.
  • With the foxes now near each other, proceed to feed them a sweet berry each. Youll have to feed it to the foxes one at a time. To feed a fox when youre on a desktop computer, right-click on a fox while youre holding a sweet berry in your hand.
  • If two foxes that are near each other have sweet berries, they will proceed to breed. Youll know that this is happening when you see heart icons appear above their heads. After a few seconds, a baby fox will appear between them. This baby fox will fully trust the player, though they will still follow adult foxes.

The End Of A Furry Tale

That’s all you need to know about the new foxes in Minecraft! If you play on the Java Edition, you’ve probably had these guys for a few months now, but for everyone playing on the Bedrock Edition, there’s yet another new thing to go out and find. I, for one, fully intend to fill my entire house with nothing but foxes.

What do you think about the new foxes? Are you going to create a foxy army? Let us know below!

    Find Two Foxes To Breed

We’ll first need to find two foxes in Minecraft. It doesn’t matter if you use red foxes or white foxes. Red foxes are often found in the Taiga Biome and white foxes are found in the Snowy Taiga Biome. If you are having trouble finding them you can use a spawn egg or summon a fox.

Tip: Build a fence around the foxes to keep them close together to make the breeding process easier.

Before consolidation into Bedrock, Minecraft Mobile was known as the Pocket Edition and ran on Windows phones. Although the Pocket Edition still technically exists, as it was also the basis of the Windows 10 version, its mostly just Bedrock Edition with a different name.

All the steps required to tame foxes as detailed in the Java version is the same for the mobile app. The only real difference is that instead of right-clicking when feeding berries, you tap on the fox instead. Also, the sneak button is the diamond in the center of your movement controls, on the lower left side of your screen.

Bred Foxes In Minecraft Are Automatically Tame

How to tame foxes in Minecraft

Wanting to tame an army of foxes in Minecraft would probably be a bit like chucking Sweet Berries into an animal-shaped vacuum if not for one simple save: any fox cub thats the product of two tamed foxes will automatically be born tame. Thats right.

You only really have to use those Sweet Berries on the original breeding pair of foxes and once thats done, their offspring will be automatically tame and warm up to you. We noticed that they were quick to scamper off once the sun rose, so youre going to want to fence them in if keeping a large fox pack is something that you want to do. Fox cubs will stick close to their parents instead of following the player around, so you dont have to worry about having a hanger-on while youre knee-deep in bashing enemies. Foxes that are trusting enough will harm enemies who are harming you, though we would want to leave cubs out of it for now.

Now that youve got a better idea of how to tame a fox in Minecraft, all thats left is to venture forth into the biomes of your choice and to pick up some loyal pets for yourself. Just arm yourself with Sweet Berries, patience, and supplies for some night-time scouting until you find these furry, soon-to-be friends.

How To Tame A Fox In Minecraft Creative Mode

Creative Mode is a game mode in Minecraft that allows players to access all the blocks, gives you the ability to fly, and turns off dying and mobs in the game. This actually makes it easier to tame foxes, as you have access to sweet berries and leads without having to scavenge or create them.

All the steps are pretty much the same, except you can skip the part about collecting resources. Just find some foxes, pen them in, then proceed to feed them sweet berries from your inventory.

    How To Breed Foxes

There are a couple of steps involved in breeding foxes. First, players will need to sneak around the biome during the day to find them. After locating two foxes that are sleeping close together, build a wall that is two blocks high around them so that they cannot run away. Players should ensure they are crouching so as not to wake the foxes up while they build the wall.

Players will then need to give the foxes sweet berries to get them to breed. Sweet berries can be found in all Taiga variants and are easy to find. It is best to ensure that players have some of these sweet berries before tracking down the foxes. Once the foxes breed, they will produce a young fox that will want to follow the parent animals and the player. While it is possible to usher the young fox away from the parents, this is made much easier by using a lead. Leads can be made at a crafting table by placing two pieces of string in the first and second boxes of the first row, another piece of string and a slimeball in the first and second boxes of the second row, and a final piece of string in the last box of the third row.

When the lead is used on the young fox, it will follow the player and stop trying to go back to its parents after moving far away. Players that struggle to find foxes without spooking them, causing them to run away, may benefit from using an Invisibility Potion to gain the upper hand.

Minecraft is available now on Mobile, PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
