How To Create A Minecraft Mod Without Coding Experience

How To Make A Minecraft Server For Free (Guide) | Create A Minecraft Server [2022]

You dont necessarily need to have coding experience to create Minecraft mods. It can be done using dedicated software, such as MCreator, available for Mac, Windows, and Linux.

With it, you can create armor and biomes or add animated textures or mobs with custom AI. This software features user-friendly tools such as an animation editor, mob animation wizard, and sound manager. Your mod can be tested during the development process, too. Think of it as of drag-and-drop website editor like Wix.

Furthermore, MCreator features an integrated code editor that lets you test your programming knowledge if you wish. Minecraft and Minecraft Forge codes are already uploaded into the editor. If youre interested, the MCreators official site provides detailed guides on creating various mod elements.

Writing A Script To Launch The Server

It’s definitely boring to have to remember the command-line options for your server every time you launch it. Luckily, we can write it down in a file and just run that instead.

On Windows

The windows version of a script is called a batch file. Create a text file in the folder where you put the jar as “start.bat”, and then right click it to edit using notepad. Paste the following in:

@ECHO OFFjava -Xms1024M -Xmx2048M -jar minecraft_server.jar --noguipause

Double click the file to start your server. You may get a “Class_Not_Found” and ServerGuiConcole error, just ignore these errorsand you should see your “Server Thread/INFO” dialog start the server.

The “pause” command is there to keep the window open so you can read what happened after the server stops.

On macOS, Linux, and FreeBSD

All these systems use a common scripting language called the “POSIX shell script” on the command line. Create a text file in the folder where you put the jar as “start.sh” and write the following in:

#!/bin/shcd"$"exec java -Xms1G -Xmx1G -jar server.jar --nogui

Now save the file. Run chmod a+x start.sh to make it executable. You can now run the file by double-clicking or by running ./start.sh in the folder .

If you want to add a pausing part like the Windows example, remove the exec word, and add a line of read -n 1 -p “Waiting…” to the end. This is useful if you are running the script by double-clicking on the GUI.

A Brief Overview Of The Three Ionos Server Options

A Dedicated Server with specially allocated hardware in our data center is an excellent solution for hosting individual applications. As a basis for server applications like a Minecraft server, this server model is ideal. Billing takes place per-minute with this package.

We guarantee an external broadband connection of the server with up to 400 Mbit/s regardless of the chosen server model.

However, to make a Minecraft server, the virtualized resources you rent with a vServer or Cloud Server are also perfectly suitable. Even if you dont get dedicated hardware components here, the selected performance is guaranteed at all times. When deciding between vServer and Cloud Server, the payment model might make a difference:

If you are unsure when and how often you want to run your Minecraft server, a Cloud Server Package is the perfect choice, as here we only charge for the resources you actually need and use.

If you rent a vServer, you pay a fixed monthly amount, regardless of whether your Minecraft server is running or not. However, if youre planning on continuous operation, you will get significantly lower costs than with a cloud server.

Why You Shouldn’t Host Your Server For Free

How to Setup a Modded Minecraft Server (1.12.2) : 6 Steps

Yes, you can host your Minecraft server for free. But we would strongly advise against doing so.

  • Free hosting providers are typically slow and unreliable. Donât you want your virtual world to be alive and well at all times? Free hosting would definitely spoil the whole experience with its poor performance.

  • If youâre not paying money, the provider has no obligation towards you. So, if at any point they decide to shut down your virtual world, they can do so without asking and thereâs nothing you can do about it.

  • Free hosting providers still need to pay the bills. This means they might display advertisements on your site or even in your gaming chat. This can be very annoying to say the least. And if you have minors playing on your server, some of the ads being displayed might not be appropriate for their age, which could get you in trouble.

  • One other way that free hosting providers will make money is by selling your personal data. Not all of them do it, but do you really want to take that risk?

  • The hardware restrictions of free hosting will limit you dramatically. You wonât be able to invite as many friends to play as you wish, and youâll have severe limitations on how many materials, constructions, and NPCs you can add.

If you wanted to start your own Minecraft server to have unlimited creative freedom and a reliable platform, a free server will only lead to disappointment.

Luckily, thereâs another option you can use.

Getting Started: Download The Latest Version Of Java

Still here? Great! Lets begin making our own Minecraft server.

We can start by creating a new folder that will hold all of our downloads. You can put this anywhere youd like, but I find it easiest to create a new folder on your desktop.

In our examples, we will be placing everything inside a folder called My Awesome Server directly on the desktop. To create a folder on your desktop right-click on any open space on your desktop and click New Folder. Then you can rename the folder to something of your choosing.

After creating your folder, youll need to start downloading the necessary files needed to host your own server. Lets start by ensuring you have the latest version of Java on your machine. You can do that by clicking here or going to . That link should take you to the proper download regardless of if you are using a Mac or PC.

Add the installer to the folder we created in the previous step. Once you download the installer, double-click it and follow along with the prompts.

What Are The System Requirements For Minecraft Server Hosting

In the previous section, we already gave an example for the hardware requirements of a Minecraft server, focusing on RAM and hard drive space. But what does the developer say about the recommended processor performance? And what are the requirements in terms of operating system and other mandatory software? We have summarized the most important system requirements here.

The figures presented below for RAM, CPU, and hard drive space do not include the required computing power of the selected operating system!

What Is A Minecraft Server

A server is a combination of hardware and software platforms that allows developers and administrators to run their websites, complex applications, and virtual online worlds.

It’s basically a powerful computer launched remotely on one of the hundreds of data centers around the globe. It is online 24/7, and runs a special software that makes it possible for multiple users to access the web services or gaming realms residing on its hard drive.

Minecraft servers are more targeted. At a technical level, they are not too different from any VDS or dedicated servers. The real difference is in the software that they run.

These specialised servers are made to create unique Minecraft worlds online, allowing people to play together, change the rules of the game and communicate with each other.

Agree To The Minecraft Eula And Set Server Properties

How to Make a Minecraft Server

Well start by adjusting the configuration files before starting the server. The first file to open is the Minecraft EULA. The EULA is the document you are agreeing to when running the Minecraft Server.

To accept the end user license agreement, open the EULA txt file and update eula=false to eula=true. Save the file.

To adjust server settings, open the server properties file and save the file once the necessary changes have been made. If youre wondering how to adjust server settings, the server properties file determines key server settings like server port, memory, and in game settings. Port 25565 is the default server port.

How To Setup A Minecraft: Java Edition Server

Note: This guide shows you how to set up and configure a Minecraft Server. However, doing this requires changing your home network’s configuration and is not recommended unless you know what you are doing. If you wish to purchase a small private server for friends, check out Minecraft Realms. If you still wish to set up your own private server, do so at your own risk as we cannot offer support for home networks or privately made servers.

Here is a guide to help you create a server so your friends can join and play together!

As a prerequisite, you should make sure you have Java installed and up to date on the computer that will host the server so it can run .jar files.

  • Go to this website and download the minecraft_server.1.XX.X.jar file
  • After you have downloaded it, make a folder on your desktop to keep all your server files in. You can name it Minecraft Server.
  • Drag over or copy and paste the .jar file into the Minecraft Server folder.
  • While you have the file browser open, open command prompt from the start menu.
  • You can check if Java is installed in command prompt by typing without quotes java -version.
  • To start the server, you will need to change the directory to the location where you have the Minecraft Server folder and the .jar file located in it.

How To Make A Minecraft Server

    In a Nutshell:

To Make a server in Minecraft, you need to download Minecraft from the official site. Then you have to download the Server.Jar file. Paste this file into your personal server folder and accept the EULA agreement. Then, create a batch file we can use to launch our server and help it run smoother to prevent as much lag as possible.

To set up your Minecraft server you first need the actual server files. These files can be downloaded from the official Minecraft website.

The file will download as a single .jar file. Take this file and place it in a folder on its own. This folder will soon house every file you need to run your server.

The next step is simple, just run the .jar file. This will create a bunch of other files in the folder, a logs folder, a eula text document, and a server properties file.

The logs folder and server properties file doesnt matter right now, just ignore them and open the EULA document. This is an agreement to Minecraft’s End User License Agreement, which must be agreed to before starting your server.

Change the eula= line from false to true and save and close the document.

Now you can run your Minecraft server! It will generate a world and start itself up. However your friends cant join yet as it’s not public.

To begin making your server public you need to gather some information on your computer first. Search cmd on your computer and press enter.

Now you will need to enter the information for Minecraft.

Set Up The Commands To Run The Server

After you set up your own Minecraft server, the additional steps will not be automatic. Players will need to manually prepare their own Minecraft server for hosting before itll be useful in-game.

    • Create a new text document by right-clicking and selecting the Text Document option from the context menu on your PC .
    • Double click the new text document and type in the following command: java -Xmx2048M -Xms2048M -jar minecraft_server.1.18.1.jar noguipause
    • Players can leave out nogui if they want the servers graphical interface.
    • Players can edit certain codes as per their requirements, provided that the file name in the code is the same as the downloaded jar. file.
    • Use the Save as option and save the file under the name start.bat.
    • Select All Files under the file type section, and save it inside the same folder as the server file.
    • Double click on the file you have just created .
    • This will launch a command prompt in Windows, and the server folder should have a few new files inside of it within a few minutes.
    • Once it finishes, you will see a EULA error.
    • You will need to read and accept the EULA guidelines in order to continue the process.
    • To view these guidelines, navigate to the eula.txt file located in the server and open the file.
    • False should be written next to EULA, and this will need to be replaced with true.
    • Save the file to continue.
