Extracting The Files You Need

1Open the Minecraft directory folder. There are three ways you can navigate to the Minecraft directory folder. They are as follows:

Windows: Type “%AppData%” in the search bar next to the Start menu and press “Enter”. Then open the “.minecraft” folder.

In order to install you Resource Pack, you will go to the Options menu, then hit Resource Packs. You can find resource packs to download online, or learn how to make your own, either is fine. To add a pack, take the folder or zip folder and drag it onto the Minecraft window when you are on this screen. This will add the Resource Pack to your list automatically. Once you have added the pack, you should see it in your Resource Pack menu. Move it from Available to Selected to use the pack.

You can either remove the default pack, or you can keep it there. If you keep it underneath, any missing textures from the new pack will just have the default look. It is good to keep it there as a failsafe.

Note: when you download the Resource Pack, it will most likely be zipped. If you dont plan to edit it at all, you dont need to unzip it. If you want to change anything inside of the pack: Extract All from it and make a normal folder instead. This is optional and only for players who want to make changes to a pack.

Texture Streaming For Pc

On PC, the November 2020 update introduces Texture Streaming. This feature was developed to reduce the game’s overall package size by removing certain textures rarely used or encountered by players. If players encounter an Operator or Weapon that uses a high-resolution texture, it will be streamed to the PC’s cache as needed.

You will be able to control bandwidth usage and set a daily cap through the Options menu. However, even with this flexibility, you shouldn’t notice any effects on bandwidth with texture streaming enabled.

Players with graphics set to High will stream high-resolution textures for Operators and Weapons, while players with graphics set to Medium or Low will be unaffected.

Creating A Texture Pack

1Navigate to the “Textures” folder. It’s in the new folder you created when you extracted the JAR file. Use the following steps to navigate to the “Textures” folder inside the new folder you just create when you extracted the Jar file:

Open the folder with the version number on it.

Open the “assets” folder.

Open the “textures” folder.

2Find a texture category that you want to edit and open its folder. Each folder has a different texture category. You can find some textures in the following folders:

The various blocks are listed in the “Blocks” folder.

Mobs, animals, villagers, and illagers are listed under the “Entity” folder.

Items can be found in the “Item” folder.

Clouds, rain, snow, and the sun can be found in the “Environment” folder.

Various effects, such as smoke, explosions, dripping, etc can be found in the “Particle” folder.

3Open a texture in an image editing program. Find a texture that you want to edit, right-click it, select Open with. Then select an image editing program such as Photoshop, or GIMP.

4Edit your texture. Use Paint to make any color changes to your texture. This step is up to you in terms of how you want to redesign the textures.

5Save over the image file. When you are finished making your changes the image file, just save over it. Make sure you save it as a PNG file, using the same file name and location.

Download a texture pack. Most texture packs are in ZIP file format, but as long as it has the necessary files , Minecraft recognizes a folder as a texture pack. However this is not necessary, as of snapshot 12w23a, for as long as pack.txt exists, it is recognized as a texture pack.

Run Minecraft. If Minecraft is already running, make sure to leave the world.

Click Open Texture Pack Folder this opens the folder where Minecraft stores all texture packs. If nothing happens, the folder must be found manually. Depending on the operating system it is located at:
