Struggling To Load Backup On Minecraft World

The last time i played on this world was the last patch, and when i loaded in it gave me an option to make a backup of the world in case there were bugs. While I haven’t had any bugs, I did lose everything I had because apparently my bed was missing or obstructed. I have the backups of the world made before my current session . Can I load these to get my world back how it was before I died? And if so, how?

Thanks

Get Those Chunks Working As Good As New

Your Minecraft world is made entirely of chunks, stretching in all directions as far as your eyes can see . Therefore, it would stand to reason that these chunks can sometimes become bugged, and not load in properly for your game. You may even want to have these chunks entirely cleared of all player-made modifications and reverted to their original state. Regardless of your needs, this guide will give you a comprehensive look on how to reload chunks in your Minecraft game, or even have them reset entirely.

How To Reload Chunks In Minecraft

The game dynamically renders and de-renders chunks throughout your playtime. It is, therefore, possible for one or a few of the chunks to become glitched. This means that they do not load in properly, or are not displayed properly at your end. In such a situation, you may have to reload or refresh the chunks in your Minecraft world, and force them to be rendered again.

Thankfully, a simple keyboard shortcut on the Minecraft Java edition can get this done. Hold down the F3 key, and press A. You will now see your Minecraft world being reloaded in chunks around you.

This may take a few seconds depending on your systems specifications, but once its done, any glitches or errors you may have had in the chunk rendering previously should be rectified.

The aforementioned method is useful for reloading chunks in single-player and on any online server. However, if youre on the Minecraft Bedrock edition, you wont be able to use this shortcut. Your best bet will be to exit and re-enter the world, or rejoin the server.

Some other keyboard shortcuts may prove useful for your adventures in Minecraft Java. Listed below are the shortcuts and their functions:

How to Backup a World in Minecraft Windows 10 Edition ...

If youve decided to restore your Minecraft saves, copy the My-Minecraft-Backup.tar.gz to your home directory from wherever youve been keeping it.

Note: planning on restoring your saves on a new Linux PC that doesnt yet have the Minecraft launcher installed on it? Do yourself a favor and install the launcher, and update the game, so that it is playable first, before following the instructions below.

Once the My-Minecraft-Backup.tar.gz file is in your home directory, the restoration process can begin. To restore, use the tar command and extract the backup. It should automatically place the game save files into the Minecraft data directory.

    tar xvf My-Minecraft-Backup.tar.gz

When the extraction is complete, your backup will be restored. From here, launch Minecraft Java Edition on your Linux PC, click Single Player to check that the backup worked. If the backup didnt restore correctly, re-run the tar command.

The following steps will link your .minecraft/saves folder with a Dropbox account. The way in which you do this depends on your OS. Please note that dropbox provides 2GB of free storage, after which you will have to pay a monthly subscription fee to expand your storage. gives you 15GB of free storage.

The following steps assume that you have set Dropbox up to use the default folder and that you have not changed the .minecraft folder. Make sure that Minecraft and the Minecraft Launcher are closed before proceeding.

  • Rename the saves folder to Minecraft

Minecraft supports all sorts of customization options. Generally speaking, a customized world in Minecraft may cause the app to run slowly and your system to drag, but rarely does it break anything. That said, if youve been playing in a particular world for a long time, you may want to back it up, just in case. A back up can be taken of all the worlds that youve created, or of just one particular world. Heres how you can back up and restore Minecraft worlds on Windows 10.

This method applies to the Minecraft UWP app. It is possible to back up and restore worlds in the Java version, and its just as easy but this post deals with the Windows 10 UWP app version.

    Locating The Critical Files

The first thing you need to know about backing up Minecraft files is that there is an enormous difference between the Minecraft launcher and the Minecraft system files.

The Minecraft launcher is the application you start the game with and is labeled as the following for the three supported operating systems:

    Minecraft.exe
    Minecraft.jar Linux

This launcher is also a tool that helps you customize pregame options such as which profile you wish to use. It communicates with the Minecraft servers, it helps you log into your account, and it launches the game. Backing up the launcher does nothing and this is where many players discover that theyve missed the important files.

The actual game files, including game libraries, logs, and most importantly your saved games, are typically located in a completely different spot than your launcher.

For the three primary operating systems they are located in the following places by default:

    Windows
    Linux /home//.minecraft/

The only time you will not find the Minecraft system files in these locations is if you are using an alternative third-party launching tool or you have manually changed your game profile to point to a new directory location.

How To Reset Chunks In Minecraft

    Minecraft Tutorial

Sometimes you may want to have certain parts of your Minecraft world completely reset so you can start afresh. This can be desirable if your world has become too big and laggy, or if the file size has become too much for your system storage. Otherwise, maybe theres a new update on the way, and you simply want those beautiful new biomes closer to your house. In a situation such as this, your best bet is to reset some chunks in your Minecraft world completely.

Do note that unlike reloading chunks, which only loads up the same chunk from memory, resetting chunks in Minecraft will completely clear any player-made modifications within those chunks. Then, once you load up the world again, chunks will be reverted to their original state. This also means that resetting chunks where no modifications were made will not have any effect. It is also important to make a backup of your world folder before making any changes in it, since the changes are irreversible.

Chunks can be reset in both Minecraft Java and Bedrock versions, including Pocket Edition. However, you will need a computer since this method requires the use of third-party software.

Identifying Which Files Need To Be Backed Up

Theres a whole lot going on in the Minecraft system folder. Everything required to run the game as well as all the content youve created as a player as well as content youve added is located here.

Lets take a look at the Minecraft directory to get a better sense of where irreplaceable data are located. Within the directory youll find the following subdirectories. Weve bolded the directories and files that contain user-created content that will not be downloaded automatically from Mojang if the directory is deleted or corrupted.

/assets/ Contains game assets like icons, language packs, and sounds. If you want to listen to the Minecraft theme songs outside of the game youll find them in /music/game/
    /libraries/
    Auxiliary launcher-related file.
/options.txt Text file containing all the user-configurable in-game options like mouse sensitivity, chat options, and key bindings.

That said, cherry picking which files to download or writing a custom batch script to do so is a bit irritating when its just as easy to back up the entire directory .

    Restoring Worlds And App Versions

Minecraft is still under active development. New mobs, biomes, and building blocks are added all the time. As such, if you happen to copy or restore a world that has blocks from a newer version of Minecraft, but the app youre running is an older version, you may end up with missing blocks.

For example, lets say you built your survival home out of dark oak wood planks, and Minecraft later discontinues/removes it or you have an older version of the app from before the block was added. In such a case, the planks will either be empty , or they might be replaced by some default block. Minecraft normally doesnt discontinue a block type so you really only have to worry about running the correct version of Minecraft.
