The first step in setting up a Minecraft server is making sure you have the latest version of Java installed. Minecraft requires Java to run the game and having the latest version will help us run our server without issues.

Then, read and accept the terms by clicking the red Agree and Start Free Download button.
The Java setup run file should now be in the download folder of your computer. If you need help with finding the download folder, type in downloads into your computer search bar and open the Downloads folder.
Once in the downloads folder find the JavaSetup executable file and run this application. A popup window may appear asking if the application can make changes to your computer. Click to allow access, you may be asked to provide a password for these permissions.
Once the application loads click to install Java.
You may be asked to uninstall a previous Java version, do so as keeping an older version does not help with our server setup.
Once any previous versions are removed continue through the window prompts until Java is downloaded and up to date.
The first step in setting up a Minecraft server should now be complete. The following step we must take is downloading and setting up the actual Minecraft server folder.
How To Launch And Join A Lan

1. One of the players should launch a solo game world and enter the pause menu, where theyll select Open to LAN.
2. In the menu that opens, select the game mode and whether to allow cheats, then click The Start LAN World.
3. The menu will then close, and the player will be shown a five-digit port number. Mark this number down. If its disappeared, press T to open the chat box and find it again.
4. The other player or players on the same network should launch their Java game, but rather than jump into a world, click the Multiplayer option from the main menu.
5. Minecraft will automatically start scanning for games on the shared local network. Click Join Server when the right world appears.
6. If it doesnt find the server, the players should click Direct Connection. In this menu, under Server Address, enter the IP address of the computer hosting the server, followed by a colon and the five-digit port number.

How To Create A Batch File To Start The Server
Upon running the Java file, you should see loads of new files in your Minecraft Server folder. First we need to accept the EULA terms so everything can work. Look for the file named EULA and open it in Notepad. Search for the line ‘eula=false’ and change it to ‘eula=true’ then hit save.;
Now for the fun stuff. Open up a new Notepad file. Copy the text below and paste it into the new, empty Notepad file:
java -Xmx1024M -Xms1024M -jar minecraft_server.1.15.2.jar noguipause
See that bit in bold? Next youll need to change that to the file name of the Java file you downloaded from the Minecraft website. In our case, it was server.jar, so our text line would be:;

Save the Notepad file and close it. Next, rename that Notepad file to ‘ServerStart.bat’ .;
If all went off without a hitch, double-clicking this file should launch your Minecraft server via a CMD window . To end the server, go into the command window and type stop. Easy, right?

Open The Server To Online Players
If you plan on hosting your server for players on your local network, you dont need to worry about this step. If, on the other hand, you would like to make your server accessible by anyone in the world, you will need to enable port forwarding on your router.
Refer to your specific routers documentation for precise instructions on how to configure port forwarding on your machine. Once you reach your routers Port Forwarding page create a new server and enter the number 25565 into the port when prompted. This will open your Minecraft server to other players.
It will also be necessary for you to enter your servers local IP address as the Server IP or Output IP to enable port forwarding. You can find your servers local IP by opening the command prompt for your computer. Do this by hitting Windows +R and typing cmd. Once the command panel is open, enter ipconfig and scroll to IPv4 address where you can find your IP address.
Minecraft: Java Edition Online Play

Step 1: Download the Server.jar file from Mojang to a dedicated folder, as youll be required to extract files.
Step 2: Right-click on the Server.jar file and select Open to extract a few files.
Step 3: Open the EULA file, change the eula=false line to eula=true, and then save the file. The server wont run without agreeing to the terms.
Step 4: Right-click on the Server.jar file and select Open on the pop-up menu. Additional files will extract to your folder as the Minecraft Server window appears on the screen.
Step 5: To modify the worlds properties, right-click on the server.properties file and select Open With on the pop-up menu, followed by Notepad.
With this file open, you can change the maximum number of players, the game mode, enable player-versus-player, set the maximum world size, and more. Restart the server if you made any changes while its running.
