Minecraft Bedrock World Corrupted Because Of Missing Db/manifest File

I recently ran across a very specific problem that caused my Minecraft Bedrock worlds to be corrupted . It turns out that the issue was because I was using a backup that was created via 7zip using the command:

7z.exe a -r minecraftWorlds.7z %LOCALAPPDATA%\Packages\Microsoft.MinecraftUWP_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalState\games\com.mojang\minecraftWorlds\*.*

which was not adding files WITHOUT an extension, specifically the MANIFEST files in the /db directory.

I had to uninstall Minecraft for Windows 10, which deleted all resource packs and saved worlds, but I thought I was fine because I had a script that was making a daily backup. So I reinstalled Minecraft and restored my backup, then loaded my worlds, and like I said entire chunks were just missing from my worlds.

So I created a new world and compared its save-folder to the folders I restored, and that’s when I noticed my worlds were missing the MANIFEST files in the /db subdirectory.

In my investigation, I found a lot of possible fixes for corrupted worlds, but they all had to do with corrupted level.dat files and nothing about missing files in the db directory.

None of the tools like MCCToolchest could even open the world data files, because of these missing MANIFEST files.

So was there anything to be done?

To start with, the correct command to backup your Minecraft Bedrock worlds using 7-zip is:

no “.*” at the very end. This will create a backup of all files stored in your minecraftWorlds directory.

Minecraft Worlds Storage Location For Java Edition

In the Java Edition, the Minecraft Worlds are saved in the .minecraft\saves folder. When you open this folder, you will find that each Minecraft World has its own separate folder. Apart from the worlds, the .minecraft folder contains other files too, including .jar files, sound, music, personal options, resource packs, etc.

The following steps will help you locate the .minecraft folder on Windows 10:

  • Press Win + R keys to launch the Run command box.
  • Type %APPDATA%\.minecraft and click OK.
  • This will open the .minecraft folder directly.
  • In the Java Edition of Minecraft Worlds, each dimension has its own poi, data, and region folder.

The worst cases could be an accident caused by an external person who has access to your device, or the formatting of the latter, resulting in the deletion of all data on it.

An equally unpleasant case can be there corruption of save data. This, in most cases, happens when Minecraft is closed without saving the open world at that time. Game files become corrupted and the world in question no longer appears in the list of those available on the device.

    Hi there,

Regrettably, once the files are deleted, there is no way of getting them back, according tothis Mojang Support article. If you made sure your worlds were saved, are they in the place where you saved them? Have you opened the directory and checked to make sure they are not hidden files?

If they are not hidden files, a solution may be to roll back your PC to an earlier statebefore you deleted Minecraft, via a System Restore point. More on the process, here – click on the ‘Restore from a system restore point‘ part, near the bottom. This is not a guaranteed fix. Please make sure you read the page in its entirety, before making a decision, noting the following:

Restoring wont affect your personal files, but it will remove apps, drivers, and updates installed after the restore point was made.”

    Hope this helps,

Here, you will see folders. Each folder represents one world. To back up all the worlds youve created in Minecraft, copy all these folders somewhere they wont be deleted by accident.

To back up a single world, you need to first identify it. Open a folder, and inside, look for a text file called levelname. Open it, and inside you will see the name for the world. The name will match what you entered in Minecraft when you created the world.

Once youve identified it, you need only copy the folder elsewhere.

    • Open the Windows/File Explorer.
    • In the File Explorer address bar, type %AppData% and press Enter.
