When Will The Minecraft Cave Update Come Out

What Is The Development Timeline For The Caves And Cliffs Update For Minecraft

*NEW* Caves and Cliffs Update RELEASE DATE! (When 1.17 Will COME OUT) | Minecraft Java & Bedrock

The Caves and Cliffs Update will conquer the attention of Mojang Studios and Minecraft players for many months, especially now that the update is being split into two parts and released over the course of an entire year. With so many teases, updates, announcements, and tests, it can be easy to lose track of the latest news for Minecraft and the Caves and Cliffs Update. To help ensure you never get left behind, I’ve compiled a complete timeline of the Caves and Cliffs Update up until this point.

Minecraft Caves & Cliffs: Part 1 Update Gets A Release Date

After many previews and several Snapshots for Java players to try out, the first Minecraft update containing the new Caves & Cliffs content officially has a release date. Caves & Cliffs: Part 1 will release on June 8th, a date which will see it in Minecraft players’ hands in just one week. The update is free and is releasing for all Bedrock and PC versions of the game including Java, so if you’ve got Minecraft, you’re getting the update soon.

The Caves & Cliffs content, as its name suggests, expands the rocky crags of mountains and the depths of those landforms and other caves the ground’s surface. The many Java previews led to the big pre-release update for the first part of Caves & Cliffs just last week which suggested that the actual update itself wasn’t far behind. We now know it’s coming sooner rather than expected since it originally only had a Summer 2021 release window for the first update.

Grab your nearest calendar and start circling with a vengeance: Caves & Cliffs: Part I arrives June 8th on both Java and Bedrock!

Learn all about this jam-packed new update:

Minecraft May 31, 2021

Inside of those caves and cliffs players explore will be some new creatures to look out for. The axolotls, for example, will be added in this update as well. A mob from Minecraft Earth known as the “glow squid” will similarly be added to the game.

Crystal And Amethyst Geodes

In rare circumstances, caves can lead to Amethyst geodes. Walking on crystals emits a sound effect that sounds like a wind-chime.

You can break the crystal plants, but you cant take the specific blocks that crystals grow on. The puzzle will be working out a network of harvesting the crystals at the source efficiently. Crystals have uses in making items, namely in making the new Telescope, which you can use to zoom in on details from far away.

Minecraft Caves & Cliffs Update: Release Date And Time For 117 Launch

Best answer: The Caves & Cliffs Update, one of the largest updates for Minecraft ever, has been split into two parts and partially delayed. Instead of the initial “Summer 2021” release window, Mojang Studios is releasing the Caves & Cliffs Update in two separate parts. Part I of the Caves & Cliffs Update officially releases on June 8, 2021, and mostly contains new mobs and blocks. The larger second half does not have a confirmed release date yet, but is expected to arrive in Winter 2021.

What New Features & Changes Are In 117 Caves And Cliffs Update Part One For Minecraft

Minecraft Caves & Cliffs getting split in two

While Part One of the Caves and Cliffs Update may be the considerably skinnier half of the Caves and Cliffs Update duo, don’t believe for a moment that there’s nothing here worth getting excited about. Mojang Studios still made sure to pack this release with lots of new features, including some that will still affect your Minecraft experience when underground or atop mountains. Mostly, expect new mobs and a huge list of new blocks and items.

Here’s an overview of all the new features and changes coming in 1.17 Caves and Cliffs Update Part One for Minecraft.

The First 118 Snapshot Has Arrived

Minecraft version 1.18 doesn’t have a final release date yet, but Mojang is letting players take a look at the new world generation in an extremely experimental build. Unlike the usual Minecraft snapshot releases, this experimental snapshot will require you to manually download a game version from Mojang’s site.

“This snapshot is experimental, and everything is subject to change,” Mojang says. “Some features may be significantly changed or even removed if needed to improve performance.”

Despite the experimental nature, this early snapshot will let you create new worlds with Minecraft’s bigger mountains and more impressive caves.

Bundle: New Backpack Item

Finally, a lovely new quality of life feature: Minecraft 1.18 is bringing us backpacks! Except they’re not called backpacks, they’re called Bundles, and they work in a different way than you’d expect.

You can make a Bundle out of 2 String and 6 Rabbit Hide, and clicking on one in your inventory opens up a miniature secondary inventory space of 6 slots. However: the Bundle doesn’t increase the total amount you can hold in the slot: it simply allows you to hold different kinds of items in a single slot.

For example: you’ll be able to hold 32 Dirt and 32 Stone in a Bundle, but you can’t hold 64 Dirt and 64 Stone in the Bundle because you’re still constrained by the single slot’s stack limit . So it’s not as useful as the Backpacks created by various Minecraft mods, but you can also understand why Mojang wouldn’t want to give us effectively limitless storage space inside our inventories.

That’s a wrap on the main features and details of Minecraft’s upcoming 1.18 update. Until then, the best way to change up the look of your world and inject that sense of discovery back into the game is to install one of the best Minecraft texture packs. Or, if you want an entirely different experience from your regular singleplayer world, why not check out one of the many great Minecraft servers available right now?

When Will The Update Be Released

The first part of the Caves & Cliffs update will be released Tuesday 8 June.

While a specific time has not yet been revealed for when everything will be going live, it is expected to be released at around 3pm BST, based on when previous patches and updates have been released.

In order to give players the best update possible, Minecraft announced that it would be splitting Caves & Cliffs into two parts.

In the FAQ section of the Minecraft website explains: To ship the full Caves & Cliffs update as planned this would have required asking our team to work overtime, and even then we may not have been able to guarantee the high level of polish our players expect.

By taking more time to deliver the update, we can confidently deliver the first part of Caves & Cliffs this summer, with the second part releasing this holiday season.

This was not an easy decision but it is the best path to ensure our team stays healthy, happy, and able to deliver awesome updates for many years to come.

A specific date has not yet been set for the second half of the update, just that it has been planned for release around the holiday season, which could be any time from October to December.

Dripstone Caves And The Deep Dark Biome

Caves & Cliffs Update: Part I Official Trailer

Dripstone Caves are now in Minecraft as of the 21w37a snapshot. Though the stalagmites and stalactites did make it into 1.17, theyre also what will make the Dripstone Caves stand out. Destroying the blocks at the top of the stalactites will drop the rest from above. Stalagmites, on the other hand, act like spikes and can hurt friends and foes alike. Stalactites also drip water, so you can use a bucket to collect the water. This gives you a renewable source of water.

You are able to combine multiple stalagmites and stalactites to make them as long as you can imagine. Stalactites will not only drip water, but they are also able to drip lava, which can be collected in a cauldron below, just in case you need it for later. Its also noted that, if you were to throw a trident at a pointed dripstone, the dripstone will break. You can also find more copper ore here than in normal caves.

Throughout the Minecraft Live presentation, Mojang has hinted at a third new biome called the Deep Dark, along with some of the items and mobs found within, but it hasnt talked about the biome itself in depth.

Caves And Cliffs Update Split Into Two

Minecraft: Cave Update [1.17] (ITA)

Minecraft 1.17, the Caves and Cliffs update, is all fans have been looking forward to since its announcement in late 2020.

Mojang have dropped a bombshell however, surprising fans with the reveal that Caves and Cliffs would be split into two different updates.

While overall this seems mostly negative for players, it does mean the massive changes coming in Caves and Cliffs, which would’ve been the biggest update in Minecraft’s history, will now be spaced out.

What New Features & Changes Are In 118 Caves And Cliffs Update Part Two For Minecraft

The 1.17 Part One release of the Caves and Cliffs Update is certainly worth your excitement all on its own, but Mojang Studios still has something more ambitious and grand planned for Minecraft players with the 1.18 Part Two half of the Caves and Cliffs Update. Coming near the end of 2021, a lot of the more significant and in-depth changes that were originally planned to arrive with the initial release of the Caves and Cliffs Update have been moved to the second half. This is because many of these features are massive, and could seriously affect performance and compatibility if not given proper time for development and testing.

Here’s an overview of all the new features and changes coming in 1.18 Caves and Cliffs Update Part Two for Minecraft.

Minecraft Caves & Cliffs New Blocks

A Caves & Cliffs Announcement

Given the nature of the split update, its easier to just list which blocks are coming and where you can find them. The new Minecraft blocks in 1.17 are:

  • Copper ore found underground close to mine shafts
  • Dripstone and Pointed Dripstone blocks found in caves
  • Amethyst geodes found in caves
  • Glow lichen found in caves
  • Powdered snow found on mountain tops
  • Deepslate found close to bedrock in the underground area
  • Moss found in shipwreck chests
  • Glow Berries found in mineshaft chests
  • Azalea use bone meal on moss for a chance to find it
  • Dripleaf plant use bone meal on moss for a chance to find it

Note that you can also find some of these items by trading emeralds with wandering traders. Outside of these new blocks, the new textures for ores will also appear in the Minecraft 1.17 update. They were redesigned due to accessibility issues for colourblind players.

Lets go into a bit more detail about some of these blocks:

Minecraft Caves & Cliffs Part 2 News & Updates: Everything We Know

The Minecraft Caves & Cliffs Part 1 update comes on June 8 and players shouldn’t have to wait too much longer to also get their hands on Part 2.

Mojang announced on May 31 that the long-awaited Caves & Cliffs update for Minecraft is coming on June 8. That’s great news for fans of the mega-popular sandbox title, but many want to know when to expect the anticipated Part 2 of the Caves & Cliffs update. Originally, Minecraft Caves & Cliffs was meant to be a unified release. However, in April 2021, the team at Mojang made the decision to delay the update and split it into two parts. The decision was made due to a combination of the update’s size and the difficulty of developing a game during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Given how many other games have been delayed because of complications around the pandemic, the news wasn’t too surprising. At the time, Mojang announced Part 1 of the update would come during summer 2021 and Part 2 would hit some time during holiday 2021. Of course, it’s now known that summer means June 8, but Mojang still hasn’t given a clear idea of when Part 2 will release.

Caves and Cliffs has been pushed back several times due to its combination of new content and game-changing mechanics.

The good news is that Microsoft has confirmed that developers Mojang will be ready to announce the Minecraft 1.18 release date during 2021.

The Minecraft team confirmed that they would need to drop Caves and Cliffs Part 2 in two parts in April, due to technical challenges associated with the patch.

A statement from Mojang confirmed: Because of the magnitude of this update and the dramatic changes it brings to the Overworld as a whole, there are also significant technical challenges we need to overcome before certain parts of the update are ready to ship.
