How To Make A Portal To The Nether In The Survival Mode

8 Portals in Minecraft

In survival mode, you do not have obsidian blocks and a lighter on your inventory, so you will have to play a lot to get them.

For obsidian blocks, you need a diamond pickaxe. First, you will have to create a wooden pickaxe to get stone, then a stone pickaxe to get iron, then an iron pickaxe to be able to extract diamond, and finally create the diamond pickaxe that you need, by combining three diamonds on the top of the crafting table and two wooden sticks in the middle holes of the grid.

Now that you have the diamond pickaxe in hand, it is time to mine some obsidian blocks. How? The easiest way is to pour water over the lava with a bucket. Find lava in the subsoil, between layers 1 and 10 it will be easy to find it. Pour a bucket of water over the lava, it will turn into a block of obsidian. You need at least 14 blocks of this material. Get it out with your brand-new diamond pickaxe. Repeat the steps as many times as necessary to get the total amount needed.

Minecraft Nether Portal Dimensions

What are the Minecraft Nether portal dimensions? Youll need to get your hands on 12-14 blocks of obsidian to create a Nether portal which is a rectangular shape of 4×5 minimum and 23×23 maximum. To mine obsidian youll need a diamond pickaxe this is the only tool you can use to mine obsidian, and while there are some workarounds, they really arent worth your time just go get some Minecraft diamonds first.

Youll also need flint and steel to create a Nether portal, this will make the filling of the door. Firstly, place your obsidian blocks into a rectangle as seen below . Next, use flint and steel to create fire to fill the hollow doorway, which will expel a gust of translucent, purple ooze charming. Specks of the vortex will hover next to the door, but dont worry, its perfectly safe whats on the other side is what you need to worry about.

Build An End Portal: Make Another End Portal

Youll know youre able to cross over to the other side if you see a black void. This also lets you know that you built a strong portal congratulations! After you cross the void, youll automatically be moved to the End biome. Depending on your preference, you can either start exploring the space, or if youre feeling adventurous, fight the Endragon a second time.

Once youve experienced all the End biome has to offer, you can easily construct another portal. Since youve now figured out how to do this successfully, youll be able to make a new one in no time. After you create this new portal, youll be transported to your spawn point in the Overworld dimension.

Sadly, you cannot travel to the End city using an End Portal after youre already inside the Overworld territory. However, it is possible to get into the End City or End Ship by accessing the End Gateway after preparing the Ender Pearls. Once youve achieved this, you can create another portal that will transport you out of End City and back to your home.

Getting Flint And Steel

The fire starter known as Flint and Steel can sometimes be found in dungeons or Nether Fortresses. Yet, it’s much easier just to make the tool. To do so, you need a piece of Flint and a single Iron Ingot.

You can get Flint by destroying blocks of Gravel with your hand, a shovel, or for those who like fan-fare, a piece of TNT. Not every Gravel block will drop some Flint, but luckily, the blocks are not among the rarest in the game. The resource spawns underground, next to bodies of water, and in various other places. It shouldn’t take too long to discover some.

Iron, on the other hand, is found underground. You can mine the metal with a stone pickaxe. Once you do, you’ll have a block of Iron Ore, which you can smelt in a furnace to make an Ingot.

Put the Flint and Iron into your crafting grid to make Flint and Steel.

How To Link Nether Portals

Anytime you make a new Nether Portal, a link between the Nether and the overworld is created. Portals work both ways, so you can go back and forth. Once you’re in the Nether, you can place portals in strategic locations to create shortcuts to the overworld.

The Nether is smaller than the overworld by a ratio of 8:1 on the X-axis. In other words, if you move one block to the left or right on the map while in the Nether, you will have moved the equivalent of eight blocks in the overworld. The Y-axis ratio is 1:1, so this doesn’t apply when moving up or down on the map.

You can create as many portals as you like however, if you place multiple portals in close proximity, they will lead to the same spot.

Texture Generation Prior To Java Edition 13w02a And Bedrock Edition V0150

Due to the large number of Atan2 and Sine operations, all of the animation frames for the portal block are generated once at-startup, with each frame’s data being stored in an array of all the frames.

To generate a frame of the Nether portal animation:

   Assume width = 16, height = 16, and frame_count = 32. Additionally, assume = , rounding down.

Note that Minecraft performs almost all of its color calculations in linear space, and only applies gamma correction near the end of rendering. If your Nether portal’s colors appear to be off, apply a gamma correction of 2.2.

How Do I Link Nether Portals In Minecraft How Do I Convert Nether Portal Coordinates

Before discussing Minecraft’s Nether portal linking, we must examine how the Nether bends space in the Overworld. The Nether and the Overworld’s coordinates don’t line up in a 1:1ratio, as distances don’t work the same in the two dimensions. Instead, the ratio is 1:8, meaning that traveling one block in the Nether equates to traveling eight blocks in the Overworld .

When you make your first Nether portal in the Overworld, a corresponding Nether portal is automatically created in the Nether as the dimension is generated for the first time. In this case, you can easily use the above conversion rates to pinpoint your Nether portal coordinates.

When multiple portals already exist, though, things get a bit more complex.

  • Upon entering a portal, the game converts the player’s location to the other dimension’s coordinate system. We’ll call this destination point in the other dimension D.

  • The game then searches the other dimension around the destination D for existing Nether portals. The search range is 17×17 chunks or 3×3 chunks, depending on whether D is in the Overworld or the Nether.

  • If one or more Nether portals exist near D, the player is sent to the nearest portal in a straight line from D.

  • If no Nether portals exist near D, the game creates a new portal at D and sends the player there.

  • ð¡ In Minecraft, the world is divided into segments called chunks that are 16 blocks wide, 16 blocks long, and reach from the world’s floor to its ceiling.

What Do You Need To Make A Nether Portal

Nether Portals offer a gateway to the Nether, Minecraft’s underworld. There are a few ways to construct Nether Portals, but they always require the same materials:

    • At least 14 obsidian blocks
    • An item that can create fire, such as lava, a fire charge, or flint and steel

The minimum dimensions for a Nether Portal are four obsidian wide and five obsidian high . If you’d like, you can construct even larger frames and build adjacent Nether Portals that share sides.

Mobs can also travel through portals, so they can follow you from the overworld to the Nether and vice-versa.

    It’s All In The Numbers

you might be wondering what now? well now, you have to program your command block. dont worry, it’s not that hard! all codes in minecraft are short little burbs, with fill in the blanks. easy peasy!

for command blocks, you’ll want this:

    /tp x=X y=Y z=Z y-rot=YROT x-rot=XROT

i’ll just copy some bits from the official minecraft commands wiki to explain this bit.

Arguments target player Specifies the targets to be teleported. Must be either a player name or a target selector . If not specified, defaults to the command’s user. Not optional in command blocks.

destination player Specifies the targets to teleport the target player to. Must be either a player name or a target selector .

x y z Specifies the coordinates to teleport the targets to. x and z must fall within the range -30,000,000 to 30,000,000 , and y must be at least 0. May use tilde notation to specify a position relative to the target’s current position.

y-rot Specifies the horizontal rotation . Tilde notation can be used to specify a rotation relative to the target’s previous rotation.

x-rot Specifies the vertical rotation . Tilde notation can be used to specify a rotation relative to the target’s previous rotation.

still confused? figures. why is reading explanations about code always so formal and stuffy? alright, in plain english!

    see? simple. ^.^

How To Make An End Portal In Minecraft

This Minecraft tutorial explains how to make an End Portal with screenshots and step-by-step instructions.

In Minecraft, an End Portal acts as a doorway from the Overworld to the . There are 2 ways to make an End Portal, you can either build the frame yourself or you can find a frame already assembled in a . Let’s explore both ways.

Building A Portal With A Mold

What kind of portals can you make in minecraft ...
  • 1Use this method if you don’t have a diamond pickaxe. You can build a Nether Portal without the use of a diamond pickaxe by constructing a manmade waterfall and using lava buckets to build the obsidian frame.
  • 2Grab 2 buckets of water, 10 lava buckets, and a stack of cobblestone and dirt. You’ll need this to make the frame for your Nether Portal.
  • 3Dig a 6×1 trench. 6 long, 1 deep. This will be considered the front of the frame.
  • 4Behind this trench, make a 6×3 high wall, with the 2 center blocks being 4 blocks high.
  • 5Place dirt blocks at the sides. You’ll need this later to go up your mold.
  • 6Place 2 water blocks on the opposite ends of your cobblestone mold using your water bucket. A mini waterfall should arise.
  • 7Remember this principle from now on: Any empty block right next to or directly on top of a water block, will become an obsidian block if you strike it with a lava bucket. Therefore, be careful. If you accidentally creation obsidian block, it will remain there forever until you find a diamond pickaxe.
  • 8Make a pillar of obsidian 3 blocks high using your water buckets. Do this for both sides.
  • 9Notice the trench below with water. Use your lava buckets and make the base, 2 blocks side by side.
  • 10Use your empty buckets and collect the 2 water source blocks on top of your cobblestone mold. You’ll need these to make the top of your Nether Portal.
  • 11Climb the mold and use your water bucket on the side of the overhang.

    Build Your Nether Portal

The frame requires a total of 14 obsidian blocks. Once its built, ignite any obsidian block side facing inward.

Step 1:Place four obsidian blocks on the ground.

Step 2:Stack four obsidian blocks on the left block currently on the ground. This creates a column of five blocks.

Step 3:Stack four obsidian blocks on the right block currently on the ground. This creates a column of five blocks.

Step 4:Connect the two columns using two obsidian blocks.

Step 5:Move your flint and steel or fire charge from your inventory down to the Hotbar and select it.

Step 6:Perform the following to ignite the portal:

    • PC Right-click on the inner side of any obsidian block.
    • Console Select the inner side of any obsidian block and press the left trigger button.
    • Mobile Tap on the inner side of any obsidian block.

Step 7:Step on through to the dark side of Minecraft.

Note: One block in the Nether equals eight blocks in the Overworld, so be wary about how far you stray from the Nether Portal.

How Do I Make A Nether Portal In Minecraft How Many Blocks Of Obsidian To Make A Nether Portal

A Nether portal is simply a rectangularframe of obsidian that’s been set alight with a flint andsteel . The frame must at minimum be 4 blocks wide and 5 blocks tall, and can be up to 23×23. The corners of the rectangle are not necessary. We therefore only need 10 obsidian blocks to make a functional Nether portal in Minecraft and still adhere to the required Nether portal dimensions.

To determine exactly how many obsidian blocks you’d need to build a portal of width w and height h, you can follow this formula:

This formula excludes the four optional corners that complete the rectangle. You should add 4 obsidian blocks to the total if your portal will have its corners.

Here’s what a complete Nether portal frame looks like:

    A deactivated Nether portal frame.

Once the Nether portal frame is complete, we can activate the portal by setting it alight with a flint and steel. This will fill the frame with the iconic purple swirling texture of the portal. Ready to step through?

    An activated functional Nether portal.

While the basic rectangular frame can suffice, there are some awe-inspiring Nether portal designs out there. We can make nether portals to look circular or look like the Nether is seeping through it. Some Nether portal designs can even look like massive swords!

Build A Nether Portal: Mine Obsidian Blocks

This is an involved process, so we grouped the instructions into four parts.

Obsidian blocks create the frame for your Nether Portal. To obtain obsidian, you need a water bucket, a diamond pickaxe, and a pool of red-hot lava!

Step 1:Equip your water bucket and gather water.

Step 2:Find a pool of lava and shower it with the water.

Step 3: Once the lavas cools, retrieve the water using the empty bucket.

Step 4:Mine the resulting obsidian using a diamond pickaxe.

You Can Do More With Portals Oo

NEW PORTALS to ANY DIMENSION in Minecraft!

but, you cry, ‘i dont want my portal to be round! i made this really awesome dirt portal door, but if when i went and changed your code so that the radius was bigger, people get poofed before they even go THROUGH it! T-T!!”

alright, we can fix that. you can also define portals by volume instead of radius. this means you can select any square shape as your poofin’ area. but keep in mind, the volume arguments are additions to your portal’s location! this means you can never use negative arguments. the portal’s location will always have the lowest numbers. so, the volume for those points would be ‘dx=1,dy=6,dz=5’

the code without numbers looks like this now:

ok, so i’ve built a super amazing dirt portal! what code should i use….

tada! you now have a flat portal. or a cube portal, if you choose! and you can even move it away from command blocks like the step before this. notice that we no longer have an r= radius argument. this is because radius and volume are two different kinds of the same thing, and dont work together.

How To Make A Portal To The Nether In The Creative Mode

To start, place obsidian blocks and a lighter in your inventory.

You must build a frame with the obsidian blocks of 5 blocks high by 4 wide, leaving the interior holes empty.

Now, equip yourself with the lighter and set fire to the inside of the portal. Once you do this, the inside of the portal will turn purple and you can go through it to reach the Nether.

Building Your Nether Portal In Minecraft

Once you’ve rounded up all your materials, it’s time to get started. First off, make sure you’re familiar with the basic build of a nether portal by referring to the section above. Once you have that out of the way, follow the steps below, and you’ll have a perfect portal in no time. The secret to building a nether portal without diamonds is relatively simple: obsidian is formed when water hits a lava source block. Just make a mold to make sure the obsidian happens to be created in the exact shape needed for a nether portal.

To build a nether portal without diamonds, do the following:

  • Find a suitable place for your Nether portal. I recommend either building a closed space for it or keeping it separate from everything else since it is possible for Nether mobs to travel through a portal occasionally.

  • Begin building your mold by placing your building blocks in a three-block by a six-block rectangle on the ground.
  • Fill your mold with lava. You should have a single line of lava four blocks long. Each block of lava needs to be full, so you’ll need a bucket of lava for each spot.

  • Go to one end of the mold and pour a bucket of water at the end. This will make a bit of a mess, but you can pick the water back up. The water should run over the lava blocks and turn each one into obsidian.

  • On either end, build a column with a 1 block opening directly over the obsidian blocks. This is how we build the sides of the nether portal.
