How To Create Intersections

Creating intersections can be tricky when designing complex railways, but are usually necessary the longer you play.

To create a simple T-intersection that goes two ways, you’ll need a lever. At the intersection, place the lever next to the T. Anytime you right-click the lever, the direction of the bend in the track will change.

If you have a detector rail it can affect rails directly connected to it. A powered rail for example is powered and a curved rail can change orientation. Imagine now to have a t-junction setup like in!start.png! The detector rail is on the left and passing it will cause the curved rail to change orientation. We start our cart not from the detector, but from where the rail is bend to. After starting the cart it goes into the bend and before leaving it, the detector will react. This causes a flicker in which the cart and the rail change orientation several times to then finally settle in the right-side position as in !end.png! This basically means the detector rail caused a change of orientation for the bend rail before the minecart was even standing on it.

I assume that the signaling goes by this: If the cart, would in a next step touch the detector rail, it fires. Since the rail is then bending in another direction there is an update as the minecart will now not go over the rail, causing another oriantation change. This then causes the detector to fire again going back to the situation in the beginning. The reason why this does not cause an endless loop is that each action takes one tick. Depending on the speed of the cart you will see a longer or shorter flicker then.

What I expected was that the cart will go to the left, not the right as it actually did.

How To Make Powered Rails In Minecraft

To change the velocity of a minecart, powered rails are used. When powered with Redstone, they increase the speed while acting as a brake when turned off. If one end of the rail is blocked, turning on a powered rail lets a stopped minecart begin moving in the nonblocked direction. Effectively, players can then load and unload carts.

How Many Powered Rails To Place

    Passenger Rail

An occupied minecart will be accelerated to maximum speed by three powered rails in a row. On flat ground, the cart will be kept up to speed by placing a powered rail every 38 blocks along the route. If you don’t mind going slower and want to save on materials, powered rails can be placed further apart.

    Cargo Rail

Although the Minecart With Chest looks like it should be good for building cargo trains to move stuff around, it should be noted that they only have the same momentum as an empty minecart, so you would need to place powered rails every 8 blocks. That’s a lot of gold!

    Climbing Hills

To keep up top speed whilst climbing a hill, you’ll need one powered rail every two blocks ie. alternate powered and normal rails. If you don’t mind slowing down a bit, one powered rail every four blocks will do.

We’re going for a ride on the rails in this guide. Rails and Minecarts have been in Minecraft since the beginning, but crafting them isn’t exactly intuitive, so many players need help with the layout. Most of them follow the same basic guideline, but small changes need to be added to make specific types of Rails or Minecarts. We’ve listed all these particulars and the recipes below.

    How To Use Them

Minecraft Tutorial – Powered & Detector Rails

Just like regular rails in Minecraft, Detector Rails can be placed on any solid block below or above water and some other blocks like hoppers, upside-down slabs, and upside-down stairs. Players should note that these rails can only be placed underwater in version 1.17 and later.

To place Detector Rails, players need to press the ‘use’ button while aiming at the rails. Keep in mind that these rails cannot be placed on the side or bottom of a block. Trying to do so will only move the rails to the adjacent block. Detector Rails can be connected to other types of rail to form a track for minecarts.

    What Are Detector Rails

It is a type of rail that can be used to transport minecarts. They can also detect and send a redstone pulse. When a minecart moves over it, the detector can power any redstone dust, repeater, or comparator placed adjacent to the rail.

The repeater and comparator should be facing away from the rail to be powered by it. If the minecart has a hopper or chest, an adjacent comparator reads its contents and sends a redstone pulse of power proportional to the container’s size.

Now, in the column that this number of blocks connect to, dig out a hole beneath it. Don’t worry about removing some of the column in the process — it can all be replaced later, because this is Minecraft.

Quote from popin1237187Well, near the booster you could have 2 buttons. They both power the booster track to get the cart going. But, one of them could also access a rail that when you hit the second button, it changes to go the other way. SIMPLE.
