How To Craft And Use A Spyglass In Minecraft 117
Crafting a spyglass in Minecraft is a relatively easy process. Players require two copper ingots and an amethyst shard. Copper can be found anywhere when mining and is denoted by its signature orange and turquoise ore pattern. Mining these blocks will drop raw copper, which can then be smelted into copper ingots.
Amethyst shards are a little more tricky to come by. All forms of amethyst, including blocks and shards, can be found in a geode. Amethyst geodes are large and not uncommon. They spawn underground but are occasionally visible from above ground .
I am so excited about all the goodies in 1.17 that I can’t decide which is my favourite! The candles? The azaleas? The spyglass?? Still need to find goats. My base is far from snowy anything! But I found my first Amethyst Geode and love it!! #minecraft
Here are all the things that can be found at a geode and how to acquire them:
- Amethyst block can be mined with any pickaxe.
- Budding Amethyst block – won’t drop anything without Silk Touch.
- Amethyst clusters-a large crystal that will drop shards when mined with any pickaxe
- Amethyst bud-drops nothing but will eventually grow into a cluster
- Amethyst shards-mined from clusters and can be used for crafting
The shards are needed for a spyglass, one for each spyglass. When put into the crafting table with two copper ingots, a spyglass is crafted.
How To Obtain Amethyst Shards
You will get Amethyst Shards from fully-grown Amethyst Clusters you can acquire four shards or even more with Fortune. Basically, you need to look for Amethyst Geode structures underground that have Amethyst Blocks which grow Clusters. Simply break them with an iron pickaxe or higher to obtain shards. Note that these Geodes have multiple layers. The outer one is called tuff, the second one is called calcite and the inner one is made of various Amethyst blocks.
Plus, there are Budding Amethysts. A small Amethyst bud will grow on the side of a Budding Amethyst block if there is air or water source block next to it. The buds will also grow Amethyst Clusters.

How To Craft A Spyglass In The Minecraft Caves And Cliffs Update
To craft the Spyglass, players will need to use two of the games brand new blocks.
They are the Amethyst Block and the Copper Block.
Firstly, players will need two Copper Ingot. These can be achieved by grabbing blocks of Copper.
The block of Copper can then be smelted with any type of fuel in order to create a Copper Ingot, of which youll need two.
The other item, Amethyst, needs to only be the Amethyst Shard. These can be mined at an Amethyst Cluster around the map.
Once all items have been obtained, players can use them to craft the Spyglass.

What Is Spyglass Damping
The bug. When moving your camera while using a spyglass in third person, it still slows down your camera. This makes it feel ridiculously slow since your view isn’t zoomed in. And the point of slowing down the camera is to make the zoomed-in movements feel more like the same speed of zoomed-out movements.

How To Get Copper Ingots
Similar to the Spyglass, the Copper Ingots are recently introduced items that you can craft using a furnace or blast furnace. All you need is Raw Copper and any kind of fuel to power the furnace.
You can find raw copper in small deposits in the Overworld area. To mine the raw copper, make sure you have the Iron, Diamond, Stone, or a Netherite Pickaxe.
Once you have fuel and raw copper, add both items to the furnace to make Copper Ingots.
How To Find Amethyst Shards
These crystalline shards are dropped when the player breaks an Amethyst Cluster, though, keep in mind that breaking them while mining with a Pickaxe yields the most Amethyst Shards.
The clusters themselves can only be found in naturally spawning structures known as Amethyst Geodes, which spawn at a 1 out of 53 chance in every new Overworld chunk that is loaded. Geodes can be found between layer 70 and Bedrock. It is possible to find them in caverns and mineshafts as well, as they overwrite these 2 kinds of generated structures.

How To Get Amethyst Shard

Budding Amethyst And Blocks Of Amethyst In Minecraft 117
Minecraft Amethyst Clusters and Amethyst Buds grow on Budding Amethyst blocks. You can recognize them by the cross-shape on their sides. Note that you cant mine Budding Amethyst, but you can come back to find newly-spawned Amethyst Buds.
The other solid amethyst block is called a Block of Amethyst, and can only be mined with a pickaxe. This block is purely decorative, and cannot grow Amethyst Buds. You can use Amethyst Shards to create more Minecraft Blocks of Amethyst if you want to use them as a building material.

Add Items To Make A Spyglass
In the crafting menu, you should see a crafting area that is made up of a 3×3 crafting grid. To make a spyglass, place and in the 3×3 crafting grid.
When making a spyglass, it is important that the amethyst shard and copper ingots are placed in the exact pattern as the image below. In the first row, there should be 1 amethyst shard in the second box. In the second row, there should be 1 copper ingot in the second box. In the third row, there should be 1 copper ingot in the second box. This is the Minecraft crafting recipe for a spyglass.
Now that you have filled the crafting area with the correct pattern, the spyglass will appear in the box to the right.
Break The Amethyst Crystal
Once you reach the inner layer of the Geode, obviously by digging the ground, you will find four types of amethyst of different sizes. The long-awaited Minecraft Caves & Cliffs Update has finally arrived. At least one-half of it has. Part 1 was released to players on June 8th, and Part 2 is expected to arrive sometime at the end of this year. While the new world generation, caves and mountains, is coming in Part 2, the fresh update brought about many changes to Minecraft.
Part 1 of the Minecraft Caves & Cliffs added new mobs, ores, crafting recipes, items, and textures. While the addition of new mobs, like the axolotl, goats, and the glowsquid, are always appreciated, it’s the new ore that will probably make the biggest difference to the game.
Minecraft’s addition of copper is already having an impact in-game. Copper can be crafted into blocks, and these will turn green over time, just like real oxidization. A lightning rod requires three copper ingots and will protect houses from lightning strikes. Spyglass is perhaps the most interesting new item that copper can make.
I’m really enjoying the Spyglass a lot more than I thought I would!

How To Make A Spyglass In Minecraft
To make the Spyglass item, players need tow new items introduced in the game, copper and amethyst. To make the items players need:
- Amethyst Shard
- Copper Ingot
An Amethyst shard is a newly introduced block and can be obtained from a fully grown amethyst cluster. Players can only get the Amethyst shard from fully grown Amethyst clusters.
Copper Ingots can be made from Copper blocks that are found underground. Players can take the Raw Copper and put it in a Furnace in Minecraft that transforms it into a Copper Ingot.

Can I Grow Amethyst Crystals In Minecraft
It’s important to note you cannot grow Amethyst, but learning about how it grows is vital to farm this resource for Amethyst shards regularly. Although the budding Amethyst is slowly growing Amethyst clusters, you cannot influence these clusters in any way. You cannot mine the bud Amethyst block and move it elsewhere.
Where To Find Amethyst Shards In Minecraft 117
Amethyst is a bit trickier to find. First, you’ll need to find yourself an Amethyst Geode, which is a round, circular dark block-shaped area from the outside which sort of resembles an egg.
They can be spotted easily with a Night Vision potion underwater at the bottom of oceans for instance.
The best elevation to find any geodes is between bedrock and Y=70.
You can randomly come across one just by mining around solid stone, but if you’re close to a large ocean it’s absolutely worth it to grab a boat and look around for one at the bottom of the sea.

Once you find a geode, break into it with a pickaxe. Inside the geode, you should be able to find a bunch of purple blocks, on some of which amethyst clusters are growing.
Make sure you find a cluster that is fully grown and as large as possible. Mine it with a regular iron pickaxe or higher to collect some amethyst shards.
