Minecraft Crossplay Finally Coming To Ps4 But Youll Need An Xbox Live Account
Crossplay between almost all versions of Minecraft has been a thing for a while now, but the PlayStation 4 has been tragically left out of the party. Well, the PS4 version of Minecraft finally gets crossplay tomorrow, but theres a somewhat odd caveat crossplay on the PS4 will require a Microsoft or Xbox Live account. Starting tomorrow, PS4 owners will be able to download the unified Minecraft Bedrock version, which includes crossplay. This is a treated as a separate game from the original Minecraft PlayStation 4 Edition, which you can still play if youve already downloaded it, but will no longer be sold. The new PS4 version of Minecraft wont require you to pay for Xbox Live Gold, the basic free version will do, and will include regular Trophies rather than Achievements.
A Microsoft spokesperson had this to say about crossplay coming to the PS4 version of Minecraft
As of tomorrow Minecraft will support crossplay on PC, Xbox One, PS4, Nintendo Switch, and mobile devices. Minecraft is still one of the most popular games in the world after all these years, with a staggering 100 billion views amassed on YouTube.

Minecraft Ps4/xbox One Crossplay Teased Then Deleted
An official Tweet teasing cross play between the PS4 and Xbox One versions of Minecraft has been deleted.

However, the original image looked like this:
As you can see, it features an Xbox One and PS4 controller, as well as a PC and a tablet, which suggests that cross-play will be coming to all four platforms. Similarly, the wording of the Tweet does suggest that this was initially the intent. This image was quickly deleted and replaced with the one we see now.
So what happened here? The simple explanation is that someone just made a mistake, and that Minecraft cross-play between PS4 and Xbox One is not, and never will be, a thing. The more complicated one is that someone spilled the beans a little too early, and Mojang is waiting to make this announcement in a more official capacity. The devious explanation is that Sony, who has rejected cross-play between Xbox One and PS4 in the past, has deliberately pulled the plug.

You Can Finally Play Minecraft With Your Friends On Ps4
Minecraft cross-play has finally come to PlayStation 4. The last holdout on the block-builders platform-agnostic ambitions, Sony has finally agreed to whatever terms it needed to. Minecraft: Bedrock Edition is now on PS4, which means that PC, Xbox One, Switch, mobile, and PlayStation 4 fans can all play together like the great big happy family they are.
Now that Minecraft: Bedrock Edition is on PS4 as a free update if you already own the game the multi-platform release now shares unified code across every version. That means cross-play now works across everything, but it also means PS4 will get updates at the same time as other platforms, as well as the Minecraft Marketplace and its selection selection of worlds, skins, and minigames.
PCs Java Edition of Minecraft is still a separate version that can only connect with other Java Edition players across Windows, MacOS, and Linux. If you want to play with your console pals, youll still need Bedrock Edition, which is currently only available on Windows 10 via the Microsoft Store.
