Create A Manifest File

How To Make A Texture Pack In Minecraft (Easy Guide) | Make A Resource Pack

To load a resource pack into Minecraft, a manifest file will need to be created. The manifest file is a JSON file that contains the following information:

  • Description: In-game description of what the resource pack does.
  • Name: In-game name of the resource pack.
  • UUID: Universally Unique Identifier.
  • Version: Version of the resource pack.
  • Minimum Engine Version: Required version of Minecraft that this pack will work in.

Note

To learn more about how a manifest.json file works, see the the Addons Reference manifest.json documentation.

Minecraft will parse the information from the manifest file and display it in the Add-On section of the game. Inside the file, the information will be split into two separate sections: header and modules. The header section will contain the overall information for the pack, and the modules section will contain the dedicated packages information.

  • Right-click in the Explorer window, select New > Text Document.
  • Name it manifest.json.
  • You will need to change the file extension from .txt to .json. If your Explorer window does not show file extensions, you can enable File Name Extensions under the View tab.
  • Double-click the manifest.json file to open it in a text editor.
  • Copy and paste the following code into your file.

    The Best Minecraft Texture Packs

Minecraft has built a legacy in the world of gaming. It is one of the most popular games and continues to be played by millions of gamers worldwide. The game has received many updates since it was first released. However, some players still prefer playing it with its original textures. Minecraft texture packs provide an additional layer of customization to the game. They can be used for anything from changing the way you see your character to adding new items and blocks to the game. If youre one of those players who loves playing Minecraft, then this article will help you find the best Minecraft texture packs.

Manually Make Texture Pack For Java Edition

Thanks to the unencrypted game files, it is really easy to unlock Minecrafts texture files and edit them on Java edition. Contrary to what many of you might expect, you dont even need to download anything to make a Minecraft Texture pack manually. Heres what you need:

    • Zip file extractor like Windows Explorer
    • Basicimage editor like MS Paint
    • Text editor like Notepad

If you are on either Mac, Windows, or Linux all of the above-mentioned apps or their alternatives are most likely present on your device.

    Extract Minecraft Texture Files

Texture packs are based on custom edits and personal preferences. So, once you know what changes you want to make, follow these steps to edit Minecrafts textures:

1.To begin, open the games directory. If you dont have it set as custom, paste this address %appdata%\.minecraft\ in your Explorer address bar or the Run window to open the default location. You can access the Run window through the Windows 10 keyboard shortcut Win + R.

    2. Then in the Minecraft directory, open the versions folder. And within in, open the folder with the most recent version of the game. At the moment, it is Minecraft 1.18.1.

    3. In the version folder, copy the Jar file with the name of your games version number. Unless you have mods installed, it will be the only file with a .jar file extension.

    4. Then create a new folder within the Minecraft directory or anywhere on your PC and paste the Jar file there. It can have any name.

Convert The Jar File Into A Zip File And Extract

The title is self-explanatory simply rename the file, and change the extension to .zip, and youâll get a zip file on your PC.

Once you create the zip file, simply extract the file on the desktop by using the option you get after right-clicking.

Once you finish the extraction process, a new folder will pop up like the one shown in the image above. Obviously, the name will differ based on the version you’re using and the name your zip file had. So just keep that in mind as many players get stuck on this step.

How Much Are Minecraft Texture Packs

    Templar

All of the texture packs on this list are free to use, but if you want to obtain are higher quality resolution for your favorite pack then you may have to pay for those certain resolutions. But remember, the higher the resolution, the more powerful computer you will need, so if your pc is fairly old or does not have powerful graphics cards, sticking with the free and low-resolution packs will be the best option.

    Saving The Custom Textures

To save the new textures simply press ctrl+s when youâre done painting on them. And you will have saved the texture pack in the texture pack folder. You can also do this by going to the file and saving the image, and thatâs how you create a custom texture for your resource pack.

You can do this for every simple block in the game, and eventually create a Minecraft texture pack. Many players start by doing this and eventually end up creating a lot of Minecraft texture packs.

To actually save all of the texture packs to the game youâll have to rever back to the folder where the asset folder was. As youâve deleted everything in here there’s nothing to look at. Add a new text folder in this place.

Then open the text folder and save as pack.mcmeta, and in the save as type option choose all files.

When youâre done the pack.mcmeta folder will look something like this.

    Making A Resource Pack

Minecraft has a unique mechanic that allows for text and media files to be added to the game files that allow for everything from custom block textures and models to custom credits and sound events. This tutorial is meant to help with setting up the file systems in order to implement them. Since the files are essentially code, there are technical rules for how to format files and certain things may change from version to version. As such, what is written in this tutorial may not apply to every situation, but in the case where the difference is significant and specific, it provides a framework on the changes needed for different versions.

This tutorial is geared toward the latest release of Minecraft, which is currently 1.19

    Editing The Texture Pack

How to make a Texture Pack (2021) – Minecraft Bedrock

You need to edit any block of your choice using paint, GIMP, photoshop, or any other similar tool. For example, lets take the oak_planks.pngfile in our case, and we colored lines and save it with the same name.

As you can see, the above-edited image is quite simple, as we want to see the modifications, but you can edit any way you like.

    Using The Minecraft Game Launcher

Here, you need to open the Minecraft game launcher and then go to the installation tab and click on the folder icon that will be displayed on the right side of the screen when you select the game version as shown below:

Clicking on the folder icon will directly send you to the .minecraft folder from where you need to open the versions folder and copy the .jar file, as shown below.

    Modeling Blocks And Items

Sometimes you may want to change one of the Minecraft models. To do so you need a file archiver to get the default model and texture along with a 3D modeling tool to edit the model. Blockbench works well in this case since it can export directly to the .json format needed for models.

    Replacing a block

Because the default ladder in Minecraft isn’t 3D, you can replace it with your own model. First, get all the ladder’s files into this resource pack:

  • Open the Minecraft JAR file using a ZIP viewer of your choice.
    • Navigate into the assets/minecraft/blockstates folder, then extract ladder.json to Tutorial_Resource_Pack/assets/minecraft/blockstates
    • Navigate into the assets/minecraft/models/block folder, then extract ladder.json to Tutorial_Resource_Pack/assets/minecraft/models/block
    • Navigate into the assets/minecraft/models/item folder, then extract ladder.json to Tutorial_Resource_Pack/assets/minecraft/models/item
    • Lastly, navigate into the assets/minecraft/textures/block folder, then extract ladder.png to Tutorial_Resource_Pack/assets/minecraft/textures/block.

Now you can either edit the ladder.png using your preferred image editor, or you can edit it in your preferred modeling editor.

    Modeling the ladder – Blockbench

In modeling the ladder, we use Blockbench. Once you have opened the program, press Ctrl+O to open the model selection menu. After the open dialog has appeared, go to the location where you saved ladder.json and select .

    Create Texture Packs For Bedrock

Texture or resource packs for the Bedrock edition work slightly differently from the Java edition. Though, there are no changes in how you edit the texture itself. Lets see how.

    • Minecraft Bedrock

    • Basicimage editor like MS Paint
    • Text editor like Notepad
    • Vanilla resource pack

Unlike the Java edition, you cant extract the texture files from within the game. So, you have to separately download the vanilla resource pack using this link.

    Edit Texture Files

Once you have downloaded the vanilla resource pack, follow these steps to edit your Bedrock texture pack:

    1. Extract the vanilla resource pack zip file in a new folder. You can use any file management software to extract it. If you are on windows then you can right-click on the file and choose the extract all option.

    2. Then, in the newly extracted folder find the subfolder called textures and open it.

    3. In the folder, textures, you will find categorically divided subfolders of Minecraft textures. Open the one whose texture you want to edit.

    4. In each categorical folder, there are either PNG, TGA, or subfolders with PNG and TGA files for that in-game texture. Open the textures PNG file in paint to edit it. If you are editing a TGA file, you can use Adobe Photoshop or GiMP instead.

    Prepare the JSON File
