Run this command to see all of your screen sessions:

Youâll get an output with the ID of your session, which youâll need to resume that session:

OutputThere is a screen on:3626.pts-0.minecraft-22041 Socket in /run/screen/S-root.

To resume your session, pass the -r flag to the screen command and then enter your session ID:

Choose A Minecraft Hosting Plan

Hostinger offers seven Minecraft server hosting plans ranging between $6.95 and $77.99/month. All VPS hosting plans come with the Game Panel, one-click Minecraft mod installer, DDoS protection, and automatic off-site backups.

We also support major Minecraft server software modifications such as CraftBukkit, Spigot, and Paper. With full root access, you can install .jar files of any modpack without any restrictions.

As each hosting plan allocates a different number of resources, make sure to consider your needs when choosing one. For example, your RAM usage will significantly depend on the number of players and mods added to the server.

Minecraft Wiki recommends getting 1GB of RAM to support 1-4 players. If you plan to use resource-intensive mods, youll need more memory.

As our hosting is highly scalable, you can pick any Minecraft server hosting plan to start with and upgrade it later in a few clicks. Server upgrades and downgrades will be done in real-time, preventing data loss.

How To Fix You Are Not Whitelisted On This Server Error

A whitelist includes the list of players that have access to the server. Even if someone has the servers IP address, they wont be able to join the server if they arent whitelisted.

Encountering the You Are Not Whitelisted On This Server error means that the server operator hasnt whitelisted the players username. The easiest way to solve this error would be to add the player to the whitelist.

Connecting To Your Minecraft Server

Now lets connect to the server. The very first step is to run our batch file to launch the server.

With the server launched, open your Minecraft launch page and make sure you load the version of Minecraft that matches the jar you downloaded. As of the writing of this article, Minecraft version 1.15 was the latest version and the server that was downloaded. However, if this becomes outdated I can make a new server or simply load up the 1.15 version of Minecraft. It will be a good idea to make a launch version of Minecraft that we can always connect to our server with. To do this you can go to the Installations tab and click the +New button.

Once here, you should name the installation with the server and version number of Minecraft and select the version as the release number your server download is. This is shown below for version 1.15 so make sure you change this to your Minecraft server version. Make sure to click create to finish this installation.

Next find it in your list and click Play to launch Minecraft.

Once Minecraft is launched go to the Multiplayer tab.

Once in the multiplayer tab, click Add Server.

Once this is done you should see your server made and trying to connect. If you have a failed connection, check the ip address you entered as well as the port forwarding settings. If you see a green connection bar with open spots to connect to your server, you can launch in and enjoy playing in your very own custom server!

Connecting To Your New Vps Over Ssh

After setting up your new VPS with Vultr, you will now want to connect to it over SSH. The SSH connection will allow us to set up the Minecraft server as it gives us remote access to the VPS.

1. Before we begin, you will need an SSH client to connect to your server. We will show you how to use Putty in the following steps.

You can from their official website.

2. Once you have downloaded and installed Putty, open it, and you will see the following screen.

On this screen, you need to type in the IP address for your server within the hostname box .

With your hostname typed in, click the Open button to begin the SSH connection to your VPS.

3. Since this is the first time you are connecting to your server over SSH, you will need to accept the new SSH key.

You need to click the Accept button to continue with the connection to the server.

4. Upon connecting, you will be prompted to enter the name of the user you are trying to log in with.

With Vultr, this user will typically be called root, so type in that to continue.

5. Finally, to complete the connection, you will need to enter the password for your user.

You will have gotten this password through the Vultr web interface.

6. You are now successfully connected to your Vultr VPS over SSH.

With this SSH connection, we can use the terminal to set up the Minecraft Server.

Port Forward To Play Globally

Port forwarding is what is required to let your friends connect to your server if they are not on the same local connection. If you want to play on a server locally on the same connection this step is not required. It is important to note that port forwarding might cause security risks so make sure you follow the port forwarding steps carefully.

Every router is different when it comes to setting up port forwarding. A router is what is used to create a wireless internet connection. You need to follow the steps to reach your routers admin page as we will be port forwarding a specific port address that Minecraft will use. Go to the following link below and click on the list of all routers and find your router. Skip all ads and do not download any software on this website. Additional software is not needed for this.

When you are on your specific router page follow the steps on setting up a port forward entry. This will differ from router to router but the general steps in common with most routers will be the following.Create a static IP address

Login to your router and navigate the port forwarding section

Create a port forward entry

This website explains each step for your specific router in depth. When you get to the step of creating a port forward entry make sure you name it something that is recognizable such as Minecraft and the port number should be 25565. The port forward website also has a very helpful explanation about port forwarding for Minecraft here.

Hard Disk Space And Broadband Requirements

Of course, you also need to store the Minecraft server installation as well as user and game world data on your server. The following approximate values can be used here:

  • 1 to 2 players: at least 2 gigabytes of free disk space
  • 3 to 5 players: at least 18 gigabytes of free disk space
  • 6 players or more: at least 35 gigabytes of free space

However, size is not the only factor you should pay attention to when it comes to storage units. Relying on SSD storage for your server can speed up the startup process. However, for a smooth gaming experience on a Minecraft server, classic HDD storage is perfectly suitable, too.

For more on the differences between the two major types of memory, see our article SSD vs. HDD: What are the differences?.

The required broadband capacities also result from the number of active players on the Minecraft server. In terms of memory, Minecraft isnt too demanding: Majongs recommendations from 5 Mbps for 1 to 2 players to 45 Mbps for 6 or more players – are not a problem if you rent the hardware and hosting for your Minecraft server. In case you have your own server at home, you will of course have to keep an eye on the key figures and order a larger broadband package if necessary.
