How To Make A Beehive In Minecraft

If Queen Bees were Added to Minecraft

In Minecraft, there are so many different types of animals. Some animals are easy to find like cows and pigs, and theyre even easier to breed. One requires wheat and the other requires carrots. Theyre even easier to keep at your base. All you need to do is fence them off, but what if the animal can fly over the fence? Bees were added Minecraft in the 1.15 update and with that, the game came with a way to breed them, but what about housing them?

Bees naturally spawn in bee nests, but when you break a bee nest you dont get the nest back. To house bees, you need to craft a beehive. In this guide, you will learn how to make a beehive and the safest way to craft it.

Where To Find Bees In Minecraft

You can find Minecraft bees hanging out near bee nests in flower forests, plains, and sunflower plains biomes. They spawn naturally and can hold up to five levels of honey, and are used as a communication system between the bees in Minecraft. You can keep the bees in calm mode with smoke, by placing a campfire near a nest or hive, which is imperative if youre collecting honeycomb or filling up your honey bottle. Just be sure to use silk touch to safely get the block with the bees stored inside, otherwise the nest will be destroyed.

How Does Bee Pollination Work In Minecraft

Bee pollination in Minecraft is a simple process. Firstly, the beehive in which the bees live should be two blocks horizontally or vertically away from a flower. This is for the bees to get attracted and come out of the beehive.

After the bees leave the beehive, they usually spend 30 seconds circling the flowers, flowering azalea bushes or flowering azalea leaves. They make happy buzzing noises when they are essentially getting nectar from the flowers. During this process, the bees pick up pollen from the flowers. This is denoted by a white dotted pattern that appears at the back of their body.

This means that the bees have picked up the pollen particles and are ready to fertilize any plant. These pollen particles will act as a bone meal when they drop on the plants, eventually growing them faster. What the players need to do now is to plant several vegetables three blocks away from the pollen-carrying bee.

Honeycomb And Honey: What Are They Used For

Both Honey and Honeycomb are used in very different ways. Theres reason to believe theyll be used in more crafting recipes later on, such as candles when 1.17 launches, but for now, its a case of one begets the other.

Honey, when bottled, makes for a quick and tasty treat. Just like a potion, you can drink Honey from the bottle to reap its benefits, although its just another kind of food. Its pretty good at what it does, but given you cant stack them, they wont beat the usefulness of other, rarer consumables. You can even turn Honey into Sugar!

Honeycomb, on the other hand, is more of a crafting ingredient. You can pair it with any kind of Wooden Plank to craft a Bee Hive.

How Do Electric Eels Produce El

so they added bees to minecraft

Electric eels have three pairs of abdominal organs that produce electricity: the main organ, Hunters organ, and Sachs organ. By causing a sudden difference in electric potential, it generates an electric current in a manner similar to a battery, in which stacked plates each produce an electric potential difference.

How To Harvest Honey And Honeycomb At A Bee Farm

Bees can’t be trained to fight for you, so don’t expect them to help against slimes or the Wither boss. However, Bee Farms are useful for harvesting both Honey and Honeycomb, which are two resources that have different purposes.

To harvest Honeycomb, you’ll need to use Shears on a Beehive or Bee Nest that has reached a “honey level” of 5.

Honeycomb is used to create Beehives and Candles, and it can also be used to “wax” various kinds of Copper blocks.

To harvest Honey, right-click on the Beehive or Bee Nest with an empty Glass Bottle. This will fill the bottle with Honey.

Honey can be placed in a crafting window to produce 3 Sugar, or you can put 4 Honey in a 2×2 grid to create a Honey Block, a block which deters and slows mobs, and lowers fall damage for anything that lands on it.

Make sure you place a lit Campfire under any Beehive or Bee Nest that you’re about to harvest Honey or Honeycomb from, as this will stop the Bees from attacking you when you do so.

To make a Campfire in a Crafting Table window, fill the bottom row with 3 Logs, place 1 Coal in the middle of the grid, and then place 3 sticks above and to the left and right of the Coal, as you see below:

Whats The Difference Between A Bee Nest And Bee Hive In Minecraft

Given we just got a new mob in Minecraft, youd expect every new item relating to it would be unique and interesting. There arent any real differences between the new Bee Nest and Bee Hive other than one is a natural spawn while the other is crafted. But that doesnt mean theyre pointless.

Crafting a Bee Hive gives you a way to cultivate your own colony of these helpful creatures anywhere you want. They can be bred with the use of flowers and actually help other flowers grow. That means you can provide a home for the bees, breed them, and harvest near-endless supplies of Honey from the Bee Hives when the bees dance around your gardens.

How To Break Beehives

Bees Have Been Added To Minecraft

While you are exploring throughout your world, you may encounter naturally occurring beehives. It can be an easy way to get your honey farm started quickly. To obtain these beehives, you will need to use a tool with the Silk Touch enchantment. While beehives break quickly with the use of axes or hands, you will not obtain the beehive unless a tool with Silk Touch is used.

You also need Silk Touch to ensure you do not anger the bees inside the hive. If you attempt to break a beehive with a tool that is not enchanted with Silk Touch, any bees inside will immediately aggro to the player.

  • Campfire: Placing a campfire under the beehive will set them to calm mode. This allows players to get close and personal and harvest their honey using empty bottles.
  • Flowers: The player can use a flower to lure the bees outside of their hive. Players can then move the bees to a new location or attach a leash to them to move them to a new location. It’s important to mention that the bees won’t go very far when using the flowers.
  • Honeycombs: Once the bee’s nest is at a higher level, players can use sheers that are used on sheep to harvest honeycombs. Players can then use these with a combination of planks to make their own beehives. This is great for moving bees to their new homes.

How To Tell When A Bee Nest Is Full

You may be wondering how you tell if bees have filled up a bee nest in Minecraft. Its very easy to spot, but the only visual cues appear when the nest or hive is full, so theres no way of telling if youre at half capacity or empty. Simply look to see the beehive or nest overflowing with golden honey. After some time the hive or nest will start dripping honey.

Minecraft Bees: How To Find Bees And Harvest Honey

From honey farming to making beehives, you need to bee fully prepared for this fuzzy mobs arrival

Minecraft bees are a neutral Minecraft mob, meaning they keep to themselves unless you mess with them or their nests seems fair. If, like in reality, you get stung, the bee loses its stinger and eventually dies. Which should hopefully give you a reason to stay clear, or you know, just treat the bee with the respect it deserves.

The honey Minecraft bee is part of the Minecraft Java Edition, and adds what Mojang calls a large bug to the lineup of Minecraft mobs. Modders have already created Adventure Time and Bee Movie mods for the bee update, as well as a mod that lets you ride bees in Minecraft by attaching saddles.

Aside from being adorable, Minecraft bees are also resourceful and just want to live the good life, gathering pollen and helping you grow your crops. They dont like rain and sleep at night aww but can be used to collect honey or craft your very own beehive.

    How Do Bees Behave

Exhibiting their own unique behaviors and abilities, bees introduce a new suite of mechanics to Minecraft’s already-abundant ecosystems. This means that there a few things to look out for whenever you’re interacting with bees, and things you should or shouldn’t do.

The bees present in Minecraft will have three distinct “forms,” so to speak, that drastically alter how they behave around the player. This is when the bees are either neutral, carrying pollen, or provoked.

The Benefits Of Bees In Minecraft

Bees carry pollen from flowers to hives to make honey. They also create new flowers as they spread pollen, so a beehive can be very helpful if you’re trying to make a garden.

If you attack a bee, hive, or nest, prepare to get stung by nearby bees. Bees die after stinging once and don’t leave behind any spoils, but the sting will inflict the poison effect. To avoid getting stung, place a campfire near the hive before approaching it to keep the bees calm.

Big Insects Need Large Wings And A Lot Of Energy To Flap Them

    THEY ADDED BEES TO MINECRAFT

Blocky bees buzz about in the world of Minecraft.

Big bees buzz in Minecraft. In our world, blocky bees might starve and be stuck on the ground. Yet long ago, giant insects did roam our planet.

Visit a flower forest in the game Minecraft and you may stumble across big, blocky bees searching for blooms. In real-world terms, those boxy behemoths measure a whopping 70 centimeters long. Theyd be similar in size to a common raven. And theyd dwarf any insects alive today.

The worlds biggest modern bees, found in Indonesia, max out at around 4 centimeters . But shockingly large insects arent much of a stretch. Youd just need to go back in time. A very long time ago, gargantuan grasshoppers and massive mayflies cruised the planet.

The largest known insects that ever lived were ancient relatives of dragonflies. Belonging to the genus Meganeura, they lived roughly 300 million years ago. These behemoths had wings spanning around 0.6 meter .

Other than size, these creatures would have looked like modern dragonflies, says Matthew Clapham. Hes a paleontologist at the University of California Santa Cruz. These ancient insects were predators, he says, and likely ate other insects.

The first insects appeared in fossils from around 320 million or 330 million years ago. They started out pretty big and hit their peak size quickly, Clapham says. Since then, insect sizes have mostly gone downhill.

    Bee Nests Vs Beehives

There is a difference between beehives and bee nests. A bee nest is a block that spawns in trees. The nest is spawned, and cannot be crafted.

Beehives, on the other hand, can only be crafted. They are essentially crafted versions of bee nests. To craft this, you will need

    • 6 planks
    • 3 honeycombs

Beehives are like an ‘overflow’ housing for bees that you breed. A bee nest can only hold 3 bees, so if you breed more, then they will move into the hive. This is important if you are planning on making a bee farm for materials. After bees have moved into the hive, it functions just like a bee nest. After the bees get to work, you can harvest honey and honeycomb. As long as the bees are alive, you can continue harvesting materials.

That’s all there is to know about bees! Now get out there and make your own honey farm.
