Minecraft 1.13 – Turtles, Where to Find, How to Breed, Shells and Potions

If you have successfully made both the turtles mate, but one of the turtles is always trying to run away and none of the mated turtles is laying eggs. Well, this I because as discussed earlier as well, a turtle will only lay eggs in its own beach house, so if its trying to run away, it means that the turtle wants to reach its beach house, where it will lay the eggs. If you are planning to create a turtle farm, make sure you do it near the beach. Also, you should not roam around looking for turtles on different beaches, look around to the local ones.

On the plus side, you will be having a turtle farm with everything you need just around the corner like the sea turtles and seagrass.

So youve captured two or more turtles and successfully married them, but one of the turtles continues attempting to flee, and none of the mated turtles lays eggs. Where To Find Turtles In Minecraft

Turtles can be found on sandy beaches in Minecraft. Beaches that lack sand won’t have turtles unless a player spawns them or lures them to the area with seagrass. Seagrass can be used to breed two turtles or lure any number of turtles anywhere the player goes.

After two turtles breed, one of them will appear slightly bigger and will have an egg in its inventory. The pregnant turtle will travel to where it was generated to lay its egg. Sometimes, the turtle will lay multiple eggs on one block.

Each turtle that spawns will register their spawn point as its home beach. No matter how far away they are, a pregnant turtle will go back to the home beach to lay its egg.

Players can change the egg’s home beach by collecting them and placing them elsewhere before they hatch. Eggs can be collected using a tool enchanted with silk touch.

Baby turtles are vulnerable to a large variety of mobs before they become adults. These Minecraft mobs include vindicators, cats, foxes, most undead mobs, the blaze mob, and withers. Mobs that attack baby turtles will not always attack adult turtles. The adult turtle has its own list of predators that include zombie piglins, vindicators, and withers.

Minecraft Sea Turtle Care Guide

Overview

Minecraft sea turtles are probably my favorite creature in the entire game. They are the only reptile currently in the game . In this guide, I’ll go over how to properly care for, breed, and protect your Minecraftian reptile

Natural Habitat

Minecraft sea turtles naturally spawn in the overworld on warm, sunny beaches. They are able to spawn in groups of 1-6 turtles. In Bedrock Edition, they have a 10% chance of spawning as a baby. Turtles spawn naturally at light level 7 or higher, at altitude 60-67.

Appearance and Size

Minecraft sea turtles can be described as “pancake” shaped. What they lack in height, they make for in width! Adult sea turtles get to a max height of 0.4 blocks, and get about 1.2 blocks width wise. Baby sea turtles are 0.12 blocks tall and 0.36 blocks wide.

Housing

As they do come from the ocean, I recommend a very large enclosure. They are mainly aquatic, but they also spend some time on land basking in the sun. Because of this, it is important to provide them with both a very large sand area and a huge swimming pool area. I personally recommend a minimum of a 10×4 block sand area and a 10×6 swimming area. It is absolutely essential to provide at least 2 blocks deep of water. Sand is very important for these critters, as they lay their eggs in it.

Babies Drop Scutes When Growing Up

The main reason why turtles are interesting and useful is because of their scute. When a baby turtle grows up, it will drop its scute, which the player can pick up and use as a crafting ingredient. Five scutes are enough to craft a Turtle Shell, which can be used as a helmet.

The helmet is actually special, because it gives the player 10 seconds of water breathing underwater. Moreover, the helmet can also be used as a crafting ingredient when making potions.

Adding it into an awkward potion will turn it into a Potion of the Turtle Master, which will gives the player Resistance III, as well as Slowness IV for 20 seconds. It’s a decent potion when a player wants to tank damage for a short period of time.

How To Transport Turtles In Minecraft

If instead, you want to bring Turtles back to your base in Minecraft that already have a home beach, then youll need to transport them. Unfortunately, you cant use a Lead on Turtles like you can with other mobs.

Not to worry, as there are two other ways. Firstly, you can hold Seagrass in your hand. All Turtles within a 10 block radius will follow you as long as youre holding it.

Secondly, you can actually place Turtles inside of boats with you, and sail them home. The easiest way to do this would simply be by driving your boat into the Turtle, making it hop inside. Otherwise, you can try and push it in by repeatedly walking into it.

  • Make a hole in the sand for at least two turtles.
  • Shears for crafting. This item needs two Iron Ingots, which may be obtained by mining Iron Ore. Go to the crafting menu and drop one Iron Ore into the second box on the first row of the 33 crafting grid. Then, in the second middle row, put the other Iron Ore in the first box. Make Shears now.
  • Obtain some seagrass. The Seagrass should be found along the beach, underwater. Place the shears in your hand like you would any other weapon or action item in Minecraft.Use the Shears to harvest Seagrass by pointing toward a bed of Seagrass. Youll need at least two of these.
  • Now, feed Seagrass to each turtle. After youve fed both turtles, you should see red hearts appear over them.
  • The hearts will eventually go away. Then, one of the two Sea Turtles will begin excavating and laying up to four eggs on the ground.
  • All that is left now is to wait for the young Sea Turtles to hatch. They only hatch at night, so dont waste your time waiting during the day. Feed 10 Seagrass items to a newborn Sea Turtle to help it develop into an adult.

Why Is My Turtle Not Moving

Its normal for hibernating turtles to be lethargic, but a normal, healthy and active turtle should move around their tank and respond to stimuli like food, interaction with you, and his cage habitat. If your turtle is not eating, barely moving and also has trouble swimming, contact your veterinarian right away.

Sea Turtle Behavior And Egg Mechanics

Sea Turtles are passive Minecraft creatures. That means that they wont fight back when attacked. This is important to keep in mind because the turtles are occasionally attacked by various Minecraft creatures, from Zombies to Ravagers. If youre planning on creating a Sea Turtle farm, prepare to put some defensive measures in place. Additionally, keep in mind that, although Sea Turtles are pretty slow on dry land, they are fast in the water. Knowing this should help you round them up easier.

Once laid, Sea Turtle eggs are extremely brittle. If you or another Minecraft entity stands on an egg, the chances are that it will break. Additionally, dropping an egg will likely result in it breaking. So, be careful with them. Bear in mind that adult turtles can also break eggs. Keep the eggs safely tucked away.

A fun fact about baby turtles: at 0.12 blocks, they are the smallest mob in Minecraft. This is just another cute reason to have the Sea Turtle mobs mate.

They Spawn Only On Sandy Beaches

Just as one would expect, turtles don’t spawn just anywhere. They need a very specific environment to thrive in. They’re most commonly found on beaches, but this needs to be a sandy beach, rather than a stony or gravel beach biome. Anywhere there is sand and water, there are most likely also turtles.

Turtles will usually spawn in groups as well, so if you spot one turtle, chances are there are more swimming or moving around so keep an eye out for them. There’s also a small chance of babies spawning but this is much rarer.

After they come out of love mode one of the turtles will seem a little larger than the other. After a few seconds, it will dig in the sand to lay its eggs.
