Microsoft has made over $350 million in revenue thanks to the Minecraft Marketplace, with modders making money for their creations in Minecraft.

Making mods in Minecraft can actually be quite lucrative, according to a recent report by Microsoft. This report shows the Minecraft Marketplace led to a whopping $350 million dollar profit for modders and creators. Microsoft has finally made it possible to make money by contributing to the community, with modders now a part of the game instead of a small aspect.

Minecraft is still one of the biggest games on the market, almost a decade after being released online in November 2011. Since then the game has been bought by Microsoft and ported to every modern console and continuously updated with new content and bug fixes. As of 2020, Minecraft has over 200 million copies sold and 126 million monthly active users, making the game one of the best-selling video games of all time.

How Much Does A Minecraft Server Cost

Minecraft Server pricing varies depending on the provider you select. The price increases based on the number of active players on the server. A server for 20 players is just $15/month.

If you’re looking to build a PC to host in your house, It’s going to depend on the above requirements. You can go super cheap or you can get a fully equipped powerhouse for $1,000. A good average is around $500 for a solid PC to run the Minecraft server.

With lower cost options you run the risk of not being able to run all the plugins you need. If your group of players grows, you may also not be able to support them all on a cheaper server. For large scale gaming server options, you can check out our Dedicated Game Hosting Solutions.

Minecraft Sales In Last 10 Years

The number of Minecraft games sold in the last 10 years is more than 924 million copies.

Year
2018 154 million

This means nearly 1 billion copies of Minecraft games have been sold. A huge number for the game that was released just 11 years ago.

These numbers are evidence of Mojangs smart game development and its focus on their users base interests and queries.

There have been many times in the past when the Mojang was criticized by its players but due to an inefficiency in the games or any wrong features.

For instance, there was an update on birds food in the game that was later removed by the communitys insistence because that was harmful to the bird in real life and children can imitate that behavior with the birds.

This is the level of trust and connection that Mojang has built with its user base that they are open to any reasonable changes by them.

This has made Minecraft a popular game among its users.

Last year alone Minecraft sold 200 million copies and the year before its sales were up to 176 million.

Since 2011 when it sold 4 million copies, the yearly sales have never dipped. Every year there has been an increment in the number of sales of Minecraft which is evident in the revenue of the company.

In just the last 5 years, it has been bought more than 600 million times. Thats a big number for the game that started with 4 million in the first year.

Ways To Make Money From Minecraft

Think you cant make money playing your favourite video game? Ever been told that all those hours spent on Minecraft was a waste of time? Well think again, now you too could be making money from home. But how I hear you ask, how is it possible to make money from Minecraft? Well read on because youre about to discover seven simple ways to make money on Fiverr.com

Firstly lets take a moment to discuss the web site, Fiverr.com. Fiverr.com is an online marketplace where people tackle any number of bizarre gigs or micro-jobs in exchange for payment of a whopping $5. Users might offer to place 100 flyers on 100 cars, or design a company logo, or record a customized message while imitating the voice of a Star Wars character. The sheer scope and variety of available gigs will impress anyone who isnt familiar with the site, and on your first visit, you might understandably wonder how on earth you can get all this stuff for just five dollars.

While some gigs have an opening rate of $5, the more popular and well-reviewed ones are earning much more per gig. For example you need a project done in 24 hours add $10, you want more detail in an illustration add $15, hand out another 200 flyers add $20 and so on. Now a gig that was originally five dollars in price can earn the seller much, much more.

Minecraft Modders Have Sold A Billion Mods Made Over $350m Since Microsoft Bought It

How much MONEY I make from Minecraft Plugins? (5 Figures)

Microsoft announced its Q3 financial results on Tuesday, reporting a frankly incomprehensible $15.5 billion in net income. Windows revenue is up, and so is the gaming division, unsurprising given the launch of the new Xbox Series X and Series S. More interesting are the figures around Minecraftspecifically, how much money modders, rather than Microsoft itself, have made over the last few years.

“Creators have generated over $350 million from more than one billion downloads of mods, add-ons, and other experiences in Minecraft,” Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella said in Microsoft’s third quarter earnings call today. That means $350 million in just the last four yearsMicrosoft launched its official Minecraft marketplace in 2017. That figure doesn’t include any mod sales through other channels.

While Nadella didn’t specify, I assume “generated” here means total sales, so modders haven’t actually pocketed that much Microsoft has said in the past it gives more than 50 percent of the revenue to creators, but it does keep a slice for itself.

Microsoft’s overall gaming revenue increased by $1.2 billion, or 50 percent, in the third quarter.

Quote from general614i wold say billions if you look at minecraft.net 100 milione donloaded it!

Quote from danthonywalkerWell how much did they make in the past 24 hours? 15,133 * $26.95 = $407,834.35. With that much money you can afford a house or possibly a few employees for a full year, two, or three. So I think realistically we can say they made enough to be set for a while. And from the way Scrolls is going right now, I’m sure Mojang will be fine for a while.

When buying Minecraft, you first need to decide which version you want. The PC version of Minecraft, which was the first, features the game in its latest updated form. Console versions are usually behind in some aspects due to the approvals required from companies such as Microsoft and Sony. Minecraft: Pocket Edition lacks some of the features of the console and PC versions of the game.

    Minecraft Revenue And Usage Statistics

Minecraft has cemented its place as one of the few games to continue to grow in users a decade after its original release. While most video games have a shelf-life of less than two years, Mojang Studios seem to be capable of drawing gamers back in time and time again.

Launched in 2009 by Markus Notch Persson, a game developer who had previously worked for King, Minecraft received lots of attention even before its official launch. The alpha and beta, available for PC users, lasted two years, which consisted of Mojang fine-tuning aspects of the game for official release.

At the official launch, Notch handed over creative control to Jens Bergensten, a title he has kept since 2011. As millions flocked to this new game, Mojang continued to add new elements to the base experience, enabling more complex creations by its users.

In 2014, rumours of a potential Mojang IPO led to Microsoft acquiring the studio for $2.5 billion. At the time, Microsoft was not as large of a gaming publisher and it wasnt clear what Microsofts plans were for the game. It has since gone on to acquire several game studios, including Double Fine Production, Compulsion Games, Bethesda Studios and Obsidian Entertainment.

Between 2016 and 2017, Telltale Games launched Minecraft: Story Mode, which was the first attempt to stretch the IP beyond the sandbox experience. In 2020, Mojang would follow up Telltale with its own expansion, Minecraft Dungeons, a dungeon-crawler available on consoles and PC.

    Create A Youtube Channel

How Much Does it Cost to Make a Minecraft Server?

Similar to Twitch, creating a Youtube channel can offer a lot of ways to make money playing Minecraft.

In fact, a Youtube channel might be even easier to grow compared to a Twitch account, especially if you get lucky and a video goes semi-viral.

Now, in order to make money on YouTube, you need to reach 1,000 subscribers and 4,000 hours of watch time, so it will take a bit of grinding to get there.

However, if youre consistent and work to promote your channel, theres no reason why you cant get there!

In fact, the This Online World YouTube channel just started earlier this year, and its already over 7,000 subscribers with 29 videos:

If you have a mic, computer, and possibly even a camera, you can easily start recording your Minecraft gameplay and make commentaries or general gameplay footage to upload to YouTube.

Once you have videos up, there are a few ways you can to begin to make money from your views:

    • Ad revenue .
    • Sponsored videos.
    • Promoting your creations on the Minecraft Marketplace.
    • Donations from live-streaming.

If youre not sure whether you should start with Youtube or Twitch first, Id highly recommend giving Youtube a shot before anything.

It seems much easier to grow in a community like Youtube, where youre not limited to only live-streaming.
