Minecraft Bedrock Dedicated Server Resource Pack / Rtx Guide

How To Add A Resource Pack to Your Minecraft Server

On December 8th NVIDIA officially released RTX support on Minecraft Bedrock Edition for Windows 10. To use this feature you need to have a resource pack installed.

Fortunately the dedicated server not only supports resource packs, but in this guide I will show you how to set it up so that resource packs are automatically downloaded to your players device and activated!

Adding Multiple Resource Packs

You can add as many resource packs as you want. Copy the additional resource pack folder to your resource_packs folder by before.

Updating the world_resource_packs.json file is similar to what we did earlier but the JSON syntax can get a little tricky. Here is how you want to format adding multiple entries to world_resource_packs.json:

        }, ]

Notice the comma after the closing brace of the first entry. Its super common to miss it and it is invalid JSON without it. The last entry will NOT have a comma, but if you add a second, third, fourth it will like this:

        }, , , ]

Thats it! After restarting your server newly connecting players that havent downloaded the resource pack yet will see 2 resource packs queued like this:

    Minecraft Add Resource Pack Tutorial

Below are some screenshots of a little house we made in Minecraft, with the vanilla textures and the Faithful-32 Resource Pack. There are screenshots of the outside, the inside with crafting stations, and crops growing near the house.

These screenshots are of the same exact Minecraft world, with nothing being changed on the server at all. If a player refuses to download the Resource Pack, or the Resource Pack is removed, they will see the vanilla textures again.

The Faithful-32 Resource Pack textures are heavily based on the original textures from Minecraft, but at an increased resolution and tweaks to add more detail. It’s very faithful to the original game textures, as the name suggestions, but below are some examples of other Resource Packs where you can see much more dramatic changes.

Resource packs replace existing resources in the game including textures, sounds, music, models, language files, and more. Using a resource pack on a server requires hosting the files on a file-sharing website and then adding that resource pack link to your server. In this example, we will be using Dropbox. Dropbox is free and easy to use. You can start an account and download the software here.

Preparing a resource pack for your server:

    1. Locate a resource pack you wish to use or create your own resource pack by using this guide. There are specific requirements for a resource pack:

    a. The resource pack must be within a .zip archive. This can be done through the use of programs such as 7Zip and WinRAR.

    b. The resource pack must be 50MB or less in size. This is a restriction imposed by Mojang.

    c. Ensure that the .zip file has been fully uploaded to Dropbox. If the upload isn’t finished or doesn’t complete, the file may corrupt and not work.

    d. Ensure the resource pack’s URL ends with ?dl=1

    e. Ensure that the link starts with https://

    2. Verify that the resource pack is working by testing this in single player. A resource pack may be outdated with a specific server version, so testing is extremely useful. You can learn how to add a resource pack to your Minecraft client for testing in single player by reviewing Minecraft.gamepedia’s guide here!

Uploading a resource pack to Dropbox:

    1. Sign into your Dropbox account to prepare for uploading the resource pack.

    Testing The Share Link

Back on the regular Dropbox window, you can copy the URL link by either clinking on the symbol that looks like two chain links .You can quickly test the URL is working by opening up a browser window, and pasting the URL into the browser. If everything is set up okay, you should see something like the screenshot below. It will display the name of the file, the contents of the file, and an option to download the file. This means the file is hosted, and it can now accessed by other programs over the internet.

    Moving Files To Dropbox

Once you’ve got Dropbox set up, navigate to where you have the Resource Pack saved on your computer. As an example, we will be using the “Faithful-32” Resource Pack, which is essentially the regular Minecraft textures but just in much more detail. It’s available on Curseforge here: Faithful-32.

The version of this Resource Pack for Minecraft 1.15.2 will download as a file named something like 1.15.2-r1.zip. Right-click on the file name, and in the pop-up menu, look for the option “Move to Dropbox”.

Get A The Plugin Force Resourcepacks

Go to this spigot page, download and install it. As of the time of writing this guide it works fine with BungeeCord above 1.8, Velocity version 1.1.0, Spigot above 1.8.8 and clients above 1.8. Velicity is still a test feature and could be buggy.

Our recommendation would be to read the plugin page properly and follow their instructions, but if you want a simplified version of it you can simply follow our step:

  • Install the plugin.
  • Restart the server.
  • Go to mc-packs.net and upload you resource pack in zip format .
  • Open the plugin config.yml
  • Add a main pack using the URL provided by mc-packs.net
  • Restart the server and use the different features from the Force Resourcepacks plugin.
  • Examples of how to control it:

    • Per server resource packs
    • Per world resource packs
    • Let players swap resource packs using permissions
    • Per worldguard region
    • Per version resource packs using viaversion or protocolsupport.
    • Or Of course, force everyone to use a single pack on your whole server/network.

  • Upload it to web server that allows direct download, such as a shared Dropbox link. Copy the shareable URL.
  • Log into Command Center.
  • From the server list, select the server you want to install a texture pack to by pressing it’s Manage button.
  • Click Files.
  • Go to the line with: texture-pack=.
  • Paste the URL after the = symbol.
  • Save the file and restart your server.
  • Create World: Resource: Packsjson

First you need to locate the folder on the server that your world is stored in. The base folder is just worlds but inside there will be another directory inside of it. If you left your server.properties as the default it will likely be Bedrock level. If you set a custom level-name variable in your server.properties file it should be that. This is your worlds folder.

The final step to enabling our resource pack is to create the world_resource_packs.json file inside our worlds folder you just located. This file is actually created and used on the client side as well when you modify your resource packs .

You can actually use that exact file if youve applied the same feature pack youre trying to install on the server. The format of it is pretty simple though, so its a lot easier to just create it yourself.

Go ahead and create a new file called world_resource_packs.txt and type/paste the following matching the pack_id to your resource packs UUID and version from the earlier steps:

             } ]

Now save the file and rename it from world_resource_packs.txt to world_resource_packs.json.

Thats it, now restart the server! Upon connecting new players will now automatically download and apply your feature pack. They do not have to download or install it themselves. It will look like this when they join:
