How To Change Your Minecraft Username

There are two major versions of Minecraft: Java and Bedrock. They have a whole host of differences, and one of those differences is the steps you need to follow to change your username.

If you’re not sure which version you have, think about what system you’re using.

  • If you’re playing on a Nintendo Switch, PlayStation, iPhone, iPad, or Android device, you’re playing Bedrock.
  • If you’re playing on a Mac or Linux computer, you’re playing Java.
  • If you’re playing on a PC, it could be either. Open Minecraft and see if it says Java Edition below the title if it does, you’re playing Java. If it doesn’t, you’re playing Bedrock.

How To Change Your Name In Minecraft Easily

When playing Minecraft multiplayer, a player’s name is one of the first things others will notice about them.

However, sometimes players need to update their name for the sake of their identity. People go through changes, and sometimes changing a Minecraft name is necessary to reflect who a player is, especially when compared to a previous name that identified them.

Other times, players just need something different when it comes to naming themselves. Whatever the case or reasoning, changing one’s name in Minecraft is fairly straightforward in Java Edition, though there’s a sort of a catch for Bedrock Edition users.

Rolling back to the previous versions is quite easy.

Minecraft keeps getting updated quite frequently, and your profile automatically matches the latest version of the game. While that might sound like a pretty good thing, it can create some issues for some players because it hampers mod compatibility and certain other things. If you want to roll back to a previous version of the game, here is how to do it.

To be able to roll back to a previous version on PC, you need to create a snapshot of the installation first. This is quite an easy process. All you have to do is open the Minecraft Launcher and head on to the Installations page. Click on New to bring up the Create new installation pop up and select the desired version from the dropdown. Click Create to save.

Once you have the snapshot saved, all you need to do is click on Play from the Top Menu and from the Play dropdown menu choose the desired installation. This will launch the game in the version you earlier chose.

On Xbox, it is quite tricky. You need to head on to Settings and then go Storage under the System tab. Select the device on which Minecraft is installed, and search for Minecraft in the Games and Apps menu. Click on Minecraft and you will find a list of content related to Minecraft. You need to select the Title Update and delete it to roll back to the previous version.

Change Which Version Of Java Minecraft Uses

I installed Minecraft recently on a computer so that my eleven year old nephew could play the game on it . Since I never installed or played the game before, I was unfamiliar with the setup and assumed that it was still necessary to have the Java Runtime Environment installed on the computer to run it at all.

Turns out that this is only partially correct anymore. Mojang offers standalone versions of Minecraft for Windows that ship with an integrated version of Java that the game uses by default on new installations.

You can verify that this is the case right on the download page on the official website where it states under Windows that “you don’t need Java installed to run” the Windows versions of Minecraft.

Once you have downloaded minecraft.exe on your computer and ran it, you will notice that it downloads the Java Runtime Environment and adds it as a folder to the root directory that you ran the file from.

While that should work out of the box for most Minecraft players, you may run into issues. If you just updated Minecraft for instance, a separately installed Java version may still be used by the game.

Since Minecraft ships with Java 8 included, the version that I got was Java 1.8.0.25, you may run into compatibility issues with certain mods that don’t play nice with that version of Java. In addition to that, Java 8 Update 25 is not the most recent version of Java.

Both issues can be corrected by changing the Java implementation used by the game.

Users of the Minecraft mobile version they may want to change the version of the game to enjoy certain content.

Alright this unfortunately not possible through official channels. In fact, the game update is based on Play Store or App Store , which allow you to download only the latest version of the Minecraft application.

Over the years, the community has found ways to do degrade. On Android, for example, you can download packages Data from APK and install them on your device “manually”. However, this is a practice that I strongly advise against, as it could cause problems both in regards to the game and from the point of view of the safety .

In any case, I can assure you that Minecraft for mobile is quite fun even without going back to the old versions. In this regard, I suggest you take a look at the page of my site dedicated to the Mojang title, where you can find countless tips related to Minecraft.

You can easily keep your copy of “Minecraft: Java Edition” up to date via the Minecraft Launcher app. This is the app you open and press “Play” in to start the game.

Just like the other versions of the game, the Launcher app should keep “Minecraft” updated automatically. Whenever you open the launcher while connected to the internet, it’ll check for updates, and install them before you play the game.

However, you can always check which version of “Minecraft” you have. Here’s how:

1. Open the Minecraft Launcher.

2. In the drop-down menu next to “Play,” click the “Latest release” option.

3. Compare the number underneath it to whatever the latest version of “Minecraft” is. You can find this with a quick Google search.

If updates aren’t installing, make sure you have enough space on your computer.

Enabling Older And Experimental Versions

Part of the reason you may want to tinker with version numbers and use profiles is to play very old version of Minecraft or very new snapshot versions. Lets enable those items in the version selection list.

From within the profile editor, check off all the options under the Version Selection section that apply to what you want to load. Check the first option if you want to enable experimental releases and then check the next two if you want to play around with the very old Beta and Alpha releases from circa 2010-2011.

When you check off the Enable experimental development builds box youll get this warning:

Thats exactly why were using the profile system and keeping our worlds separated in different game data directories. Youll receive a similar warning when you enabled Alpha and Beta builds. This is exactly why were encouraging everyone to use profiles combined with separate game data directories: it keeps your worlds safe.

After youve checked them off and accepted the warning, youll see a significantly expanded number of versions in the Use version dropdown menu.

You can now select from public releases as well as snapshot, beta, and alpha builds. Remember the warning though! Make a profile and separate directory for each major version you tryout no mixing snapshot worlds with old Alpha worlds.

Updating A World Template’s Base Game Version To 118

With the upcomingâ¯1.18â¯release for Caves and Cliffs Part 2, we are making significant changes to world generation. There is a potential for content to break when working with existing templates.

To ensure that content continues to operate as intended, Minecraft Marketplace Creators will be unable to update the base game version of their content to v1.18+ after the release of client v1.18. This is a temporary measure to ensure that content continues to operate as designed after this large update.

Creators in the community should be aware of a potential scenario:

  • A Creator creates a world template called TemplateA and sets the base_game_version to .
  • A Player opens Minecraft: Bedrock Edition v1.18, and downloads TemplateA.
  • Creator instantiates a new world utilizing TemplateA and calls it WorldA.
  • The Creator updates TemplateA’sbase_game_version to .
  • The Player opens WorldA.
  • In this scenario, a Creator creates and releases a world template for a version of Minecraft that does not utilize the updated world height changes. If the Creator updates the existing template to , then worlds that players have generated using that template will automatically update to the new world height. This can potentially shift the layout of the worlds and break existing content.

  • A Creator creates a template calledâ¯TemplateAâ¯and sets theâ¯base_game_versionâ¯toâ¯â¯or previous version.
  • A Player opens Minecraft: Bedrock Edition in a version older than 1.18, and downloadsâ¯TemplateA.
