Axolotls are semi-hostile aquatic mobs that can survive on both land and water, just like frogs in Minecraft. They are passive towards the players and dont attack them. But they are hostile against most aquatic mobs, except frogs, dolphins, turtles, and other axolotls.

Types of Axolotls
In the wild or using spawn eggs, you can find up to five types of Axolotls in Minecraft:

Where Can You Find Axolotls
Axolotls are aquatic creatures and can be specifically found underwater only. They can spawn in the waters below the river and specifically below sea level at Y=63, where there is complete darkness and no possible light source.
Most of the time, they are found in the water, which is below the blocks, so that you can naturally spot them in the oceans where there might be an opening to a cave underwater. In these underwater caves, the axolotls are in abundance because most of their spawning conditions are met there, and they can be easily spotted.

How To Get A Blue Axolotl
As of Minecraft version 1.17.1, the only way you can get a Blue Axolotl without using commands is by breeding one.
There are five different colors of Axolotl: pink, brown, gold, cyan, and blue. The baby Axolotl will usually take after one of its parents in colour, but there is a 1 in 1,200 chance that it will instead become a rare Blue Axolotl.
The colour has no effect on the creature itself. All Axolotl are functionally and behaviourally identical even the ultra-rare blue variant has nothing which sets it apart from the other types besides its hue.

Axolotls are not very hard to capture at all. The difficulty is finding some in the first place. Grab a bucket or a lead if you’ve found a spot where a bunch of them have spawned, and approach the axolotl.

Using a lead on an axolotl will make it follow you around, but using a bucket on one allows you to transport axolotl easily even across dry land without exposing it too much to drought. If you need to bring your axolotl far away, make sure to use a bucket instead to avoid killing it. You can only find Axolotls in the new Lush Caves biome. This biome is inherently huge caves with lush greenery. The floor and walls are covered with Spores and Moss. What Can You Do With Axolotls
Technically, Axolotls can’t be tamed in the same sense you can tame an Ocelot or some other animals. However, you can effectively tame an Axolotl and have it follow you around by holding a Bucket of Tropical Fish. The Axolotl will ignore you when you’re not holding what it wants.
Axolotls are not aggressive toward players, but they attack most other aquatic mobs. When attacked, Axolotls play dead and begin to regenerate health, but they can still take damage and die. Axolotls are picky eaters as they will only eat live Tropical Fish.
Axolotls can come on land, but they won’t travel more than a few blocks away from water. If you want one to follow you out of the water, use Lead on it to create a leash. Just keep in mind your Axolotl will perish if it spends too much time out of water.
If you want to keep one as a pet, use a Water Bucket on an Axolotl to scoop it up just like you did with the fish. Then, carry it wherever you want and use the Bucket to release your Axolotl. Since they don’t stray far from water, you don’t have to worry about them wandering off so long as you put them in a pool at least two blocks deep.
To breed Axolotls, feed Tropical Fish to two adult Axolotl when they are near each other. Give your baby Axolotl Tropical Fish to make it grow into an adult.

While axolotls can crawl on land and even have a specific animation for it, they don’t enjoy their time on the dry shores. Any axolotls stuck on land will wander to the closest water source or look for one as soon as possible. Within five minutes or so, however, if they still haven’t found water, axolotls will die.
During rain and thunderstorms, axolotls can tolerate being on land much better than most aquatic mobs that would typically suffocate. The key is to make sure that they have moisture.

How Can I Tame An Axolotl

The way to catch and transport an Axolotl is by using a Bucket. After youve used this on the creature you can take the Bucket item with you anywhere on the map. You can also lure the creatures using a Bucket of tropical fish.

How Can I Breed Axolotl
You can get the Axolotl to enter love mode if you give them a Bucket of Tropical Fish. Obviously, youll need two Axolotl to make a new one , and a baby Axolotl takes around 20 minutes to become full grown.
