What Are Axolotls In Minecraft

Axolotls are semi-hostile aquatic mobs that can survive on both land and water, just like frogs in Minecraft. They are passive towards the players and dont attack them. But they are hostile against most aquatic mobs, except frogs, dolphins, turtles, and other axolotls.

Each attack of an Axolotl does 4 health points worth of damage. Now, before we learn where to find Axolotls in Minecraft, lets see what variants of this mob exist in the game.

Types of Axolotls

In the wild or using spawn eggs, you can find up to five types of Axolotls in Minecraft:

  • Leucistic
  • Gold
  • Blue

These variations are only visual and color-based. Each type of Axolotl has the same abilities and health. Though, its worth noting that the blue Axolotls have a less than 1% chance of spawning in the breeding process.

Do Axolotls Attack Other Mobs

While these adorable creatures aren’t hostile to players, they won’t hesitate to attack seaborne threats. While they will leave dolphins and turtles alone, everything else is fair gamethey’ll even take on a Drowned.

They also have a neat defence mechanism: If an axolotl takes damage while underwater, it will play dead and gain Regeneration. The Regeneration status effect can be transferred to a player temporarily when killing a mob the axolotl was fighting.

Where Can You Find Axolotls

Axolotls are aquatic creatures and can be specifically found underwater only. They can spawn in the waters below the river and specifically below sea level at Y=63, where there is complete darkness and no possible light source.

Most of the time, they are found in the water, which is below the blocks, so that you can naturally spot them in the oceans where there might be an opening to a cave underwater. In these underwater caves, the axolotls are in abundance because most of their spawning conditions are met there, and they can be easily spotted.

These axolotls, after appearing in the caves, can spawn into five different colours depending on them. Once you do find them, you can carry them around in a bucket by scooping them in.

How Rare Is The Name Of Wild Axolotl In Minecraft

You can get an idea about the rarity of Wild axolotls names by taking into account the spawn rate of these axolotls. Like other rare axolotls, Brown axolotls have the same spawning rate. Collectively, there are 99.99% chances that you will get an axolotl from pink, yellow, cyan, and brown axolotls in Minecraft. There are 24.98% chances to get a brown axolotl around your Minecraft world.

How To Get A Blue Axolotl

As of Minecraft version 1.17.1, the only way you can get a Blue Axolotl without using commands is by breeding one.

There are five different colors of Axolotl: pink, brown, gold, cyan, and blue. The baby Axolotl will usually take after one of its parents in colour, but there is a 1 in 1,200 chance that it will instead become a rare Blue Axolotl.

The colour has no effect on the creature itself. All Axolotl are functionally and behaviourally identical even the ultra-rare blue variant has nothing which sets it apart from the other types besides its hue.

Of course, there are probably already dozens of texture packs which will change Axolotl colours to whatever the author likes.

How To Breed An Axolotl

  • Obtain a bucket of tropical fish. Look for a lukewarm or warm ocean biome and catch a tropical fish using a water bucket. To obtain a bucket of tropical fish, hold the empty bucket on your hand and right-click on a water block to fill it with water. Then switch to the water bucket on your hand and right-click the tropical fish to catch it. Remember that you will need 2 buckets of tropical fish to breed two axolotls.
  • Look for an azalea tree. Growing azalea trees in the overworld signify that there is a lush cave biome underneath it.
  • Dig your way down until you reach the lush cave. Dig your way down using a staircase method. Do not dig straight down because the cave system underneath will be a pretty steep drop from the ceiling.
  • Search for axolotls. When you reach the lush cave, look for axolotls. They only spawn underwater on top of clay blocks.
  • Catch 2 axolotls. Fill the empty bucket with water and use the water bucket to catch any axolotl that you can find. You must right-click on the axolotl while holding the water bucket to catch it. Remember that you will need at least 2 axolotls in order to breed them. This will change the water bucket into a bucket of axolotl.
  • Bring them back to your base. Once youve caught 2 axolotls, its time to bring them back to your base to make them breed.
  • Build a pond. Axolotls are aquatic mobs and will require a pond built by the player before placing them down. The pond should be big enough for breeding and should be near your base.

Axolotls Can Be Captured With A Bucket Or Lead

Axolotls are not very hard to capture at all. The difficulty is finding some in the first place. Grab a bucket or a lead if you’ve found a spot where a bunch of them have spawned, and approach the axolotl.

Using a lead on an axolotl will make it follow you around, but using a bucket on one allows you to transport axolotl easily even across dry land without exposing it too much to drought. If you need to bring your axolotl far away, make sure to use a bucket instead to avoid killing it. Leads are more useful when leading the axolotl to battle against guardians and elder guardians in an ocean monument.

You can only find Axolotls in the new Lush Caves biome. This biome is inherently huge caves with lush greenery. The floor and walls are covered with Spores and Moss. The caves are very beautiful due to the Glow Berries lighting. And in the depths of these caves, you will be able to find Axolotl focusing on their specific sound. Finding Lush Caves is easy if you pay attention to the environment. As soon as you meet Azalea Trees on your way, know that the caves are right below you. Since the roots of these trees always grow from Lush Caves.

Unfortunately, although these animals are very cute, they cannot be tamed. But they are very peaceful, so you can just bring them home. There are two options for bringing the Axolotl home.

The first is to lure them straight home. To do this, you must be holding a bucket of tropical fish in your hands. But of course, this will only work if your house is nearby in the same cave as Axolotl. After all, without water, they live only 5 minutes.

The second way is much better, just catch the Axolotl in a bucket of water. In this case, you can safely transport a couple of individuals home and use a bucket of tropical fish to breed them.

How To Find Axolotls In Minecraft 118 Version Easily

Minecraft 1.18 is one of the biggest updates in the long history of Minecraft. It added a plethora of new features to the game, including a new terrain and world generation system. In addition to this, six new biomes were added.

Six new biomes were added to the games mountains, and some new cave types were also added to the caves. Among the lesser-known changes, this update tweaked the characteristics and spawning conditions of some mobs, including drowned, enderman, illagers, and one of the newest mobs in Minecraft, the axolotl.

Axolotls were added to the game with Minecraft 1.17, which was also titled the Caves and Cliffs part 1 update. The mob is the first amphibian mob to be introduced to Minecraft and it is passive towards players. However, it does attack other aquatic mobs like drowned, glow squids, guardians, and more. Players can attach axolotls to leads, which can allow players to guide and potentially relocate an axolotl to wherever they want.

Axolotls Give Status Effects And Know How To Play Dead

Axolotls were early on hinted to be great companions in aquatic combat in particular. This was an aspect of the Aquatic update that was somewhat ignored by Mojang back in 1.13. However, the axolotls make up for that oversight splendidly with two cool abilities that make them fantastic alliesin combat situations.

If axolotls lose health, they can play dead by floating to the bottom and regenerating health. During this animation, hostile mobs will ignore axolotls.

    Blue Axolotls Are Special

Speaking of blue axolotls, they’re incredibly special in several ways. First of all, they’re the rarest type of axolotl color. Only about one in 1200 axolotl will have this coloration in Minecraft, making it an extremely lucky find if discovered in the wild.

    • This number was used because 1200 is actually the current estimated number of remaining axolotls in the real world.

The blue coloration was also suggested on Reddit by a user named Darkiceflame, and Mojang took this suggestion to heart and decided to make a very special version of the regular axolotl.

What Can You Do With Axolotls

Technically, Axolotls can’t be tamed in the same sense you can tame an Ocelot or some other animals. However, you can effectively tame an Axolotl and have it follow you around by holding a Bucket of Tropical Fish. The Axolotl will ignore you when you’re not holding what it wants.

Axolotls are not aggressive toward players, but they attack most other aquatic mobs. When attacked, Axolotls play dead and begin to regenerate health, but they can still take damage and die. Axolotls are picky eaters as they will only eat live Tropical Fish.

Axolotls can come on land, but they won’t travel more than a few blocks away from water. If you want one to follow you out of the water, use Lead on it to create a leash. Just keep in mind your Axolotl will perish if it spends too much time out of water.

If you want to keep one as a pet, use a Water Bucket on an Axolotl to scoop it up just like you did with the fish. Then, carry it wherever you want and use the Bucket to release your Axolotl. Since they don’t stray far from water, you don’t have to worry about them wandering off so long as you put them in a pool at least two blocks deep.

To breed Axolotls, feed Tropical Fish to two adult Axolotl when they are near each other. Give your baby Axolotl Tropical Fish to make it grow into an adult.

How To Tame Axolotls In Minecraft

Taming an axolotl is an impossible task. You can attach a lead to it and catch it in a watcher bucket. You can provide it with tropical fish and help it in breeding. But other than this, taming an axolotl entirely is something that cant happen. Since you cant control them, it gets tough to move them around. You can attach a lead to them and take them to the caged underwater area for them to survive. They cant live on land unless theres rain or thunderstorm because they are aquatic creatures.

Axolotls are cute little creatures that one should have in this game.

So, what are you waiting for? Grab one of these adorable little creatures and have epic and fun gameplay with all the exciting and magical things the world of Minecraft promises. This is one of the most anticipated and awaited updates, and now that its out, its all up for grabs.

    Axolotls Don’t Last On Land

While axolotls can crawl on land and even have a specific animation for it, they don’t enjoy their time on the dry shores. Any axolotls stuck on land will wander to the closest water source or look for one as soon as possible. Within five minutes or so, however, if they still haven’t found water, axolotls will die.

During rain and thunderstorms, axolotls can tolerate being on land much better than most aquatic mobs that would typically suffocate. The key is to make sure that they have moisture.

How To Find Axolotls In Minecraft 1.18 caves and Cliffs

Axolotls are sneaky things! They live in the water and will attack many things that wade in. They can also make it to land, though they will not last long when they do.

Another thing to keep in mind with them is that they can play dead. You may think you have finished one of them off, but there is every chance it is just pretending and is instead regenerating its health to come back at you for another round see, sneaky!

They come in a variety of different colours but if you see a blue one you should know that is rare and there is only a 1 in 1200 chance that you will.

As for where to find them, underground water is what you will be looking for so if you see water with blocks above it that is below y: 63, there is a good chance there will be some Axolotls there.

They spawn while in Creative mode using the /summon command and also with a Spawn Egg or an Axolotl Bucket they can be caught using buckets and, fun fact, they prefer eating living fish to dead ones.

Another not so fun fact in the real world they are now an endangered species thanks to African tilapia and Asian carp who are eating their young and gobbling up their food source.
