Minecraft Amethyst: How To Find Amethyst Geodes And Make A Spyglass

How To Make A SPYGLASS In Minecraft 1.17 (Minecraft SPYGLASS Tutorial)

Tips for finding amethyst geodes and the ingredients you need to make a spyglass

Want to know how to mine amethysts and make a spyglass in Minecraft? The brand new Minecraft 1.17 update is here, and it brings with it brand new Minecraft mobs and blocks. While not everything has made it into the update, one of the more elaborate blocks that did was amethyst another precious gemstone similar to diamonds and emeralds. You can make all sorts of items from amethysts, but the hard part here is finding an amethyst geode in the first place.

These are spherical structures found either underground , or under the sea in the main overworld. You can tell when youve found one when you see smooth basalt. After chipping through the first layer with a pickaxe, youll find calcite. This is the only place where you can find Minecraft calcite, though its only really used for decoration.

After going through this layer, youll find amethyst blocks and crystals. Youll only be able to mine amethyst blocks, buds, clusters, and crystals with pickaxes. Amethyst blocks can only be mined with pickaxes made from iron or harder materials. You can also combine four amethyst shards together to recreate an amethyst block.

For the longest time, the OptiFine mod was one of the only ways for Minecraft players to be able to zoom in on something in the distance. However, since the 1.17 update, the first part of Caves and Cliffs, Mojang has decided to provide a convenient in-game way of zooming into the horizon and inspecting things from afar easily.

The spyglass is a brand-new item that can be made with a bunch of new resources also introduced in the first half of the update. It can be pretty hard to figure out naturally how to make a spyglass, since it doesnt actually involve any glass blocks or glass panes. If youre looking to go adventuring and would like to craft the spyglass as soon as possible, look no further.

Crafting A Spyglass In Minecraft 117

To craft a spyglass, players must use two of the new items in the game: copper and amethyst.

Copper is found in a similar way that iron can is, scattered throughout the world. It seems to be relatively abundant and spawns at similar Y-levels to iron ore.

Copper has to be smelted into ingots before use, and a spyglass takes two copper ingots to make.

Amethyst shards are a new item found in amethyst geodes dotted around a player’s world. They spawn anywhere at or below water level, meaning that players can find them interrupting their caves, underwater, or even at beaches.

Amethyst is unique because the blocks that spawn amethyst crystals cannot be harvested in any way, meaning that to collect the amethyst shards, a player must venture to and from their discovered geode. Amethyst also takes quite a while to grow to its mature state, making this exceptionally rare.

The long-awaited Minecraft Caves & Cliffs Update has finally arrived. At least one-half of it has. Part 1 was released to players on June 8th, and Part 2 is expected to arrive sometime at the end of this year. While the new world generation, caves and mountains, is coming in Part 2, the fresh update brought about many changes to Minecraft.

Part 1 of the Minecraft Caves & Cliffs added new mobs, ores, crafting recipes, items, and textures. While the addition of new mobs, like the axolotl, goats, and the glowsquid, are always appreciated, it’s the new ore that will probably make the biggest difference to the game.

Minecraft’s addition of copper is already having an impact in-game. Copper can be crafted into blocks, and these will turn green over time, just like real oxidization. A lightning rod requires three copper ingots and will protect houses from lightning strikes. Spyglass is perhaps the most interesting new item that copper can make.

I’m really enjoying the Spyglass a lot more than I thought I would!

To get copper ingots, you first need to mine some raw copper. Thankfully, raw copper is in abundance in Minecraft’s caves nowadays and should be as easy to find as coal or iron ore. One block of copper ore can drop multiple pieces of raw copper.

How To Make A Minecraft Spyglass

A spyglass functions in the same way a telescope does. You can use it to zoom in on a fixed position from really far away. Your field of view is also incredibly narrow when using it, so do make sure there are no hostile mobs nearby. You also move at a far slower speed while you are looking through the spyglass.

Here is what you need to make a Minecraft spyglass:

    • Copper Ingot x2
    • Amethyst Shard x1

To make the spyglass at the crafting table, put the shard at the top row in the centre square, then the two copper ingots in the two spaces in the middle column below it.

    How To Get Copper Ingots

Similar to the Spyglass, the Copper Ingots are recently introduced items that you can craft using a furnace or blast furnace. All you need is Raw Copper and any kind of fuel to power the furnace.

You can find raw copper in small deposits in the Overworld area. To mine the raw copper, make sure you have the Iron, Diamond, Stone, or a Netherite Pickaxe.

Once you have fuel and raw copper, add both items to the furnace to make Copper Ingots.

If you have access to a pickaxe with the Silk Touch enchantment you can mine amethyst buds off budding amethyst blocks to place around as decoration. You can also mine amethyst clusters for the same purpose. All of these will produce light when placed in the world .

Alternatively, you can use any method to break amethyst clusters causing them to drop amethyst shards, although a pickaxe is more efficient and will drop 4 shards compared to just 2 from any other tool.

The Fortune enchantment can also be used to increase the number of amethyst shards dropped to a maximum of 16 . These shards can be used in three different crafting recipes.

    Once Youve Found A Geode

When you do manage to locate a geode, theres a good chance that there will be a crack in its exterior somewhere through which you may enter. If there is no crack, or its not exposed in the direction youre trying to enter, youll have to mine your way in to get at the amethyst. Make sure youre using a pickaxe to ensure what you mine drops as a block rather than simply breaking. The outermost layer is smooth basalt, a cool new dark-colored block that should add some extra detail to those moody builds.

Just inside the basalt is calcite, a new light-colored block that can only be found inside geodes and in strips in the stony peaks biome. As it stands this block is purely decorative, but Minecraft is always changing and you never know when blocks like this will be given a new purpose. Also, as it has no infinite generation mechanic meaning calcite is a finite material in the game, making it a valuable commodity.

Finally, inside the calcite, youll find your amethyst blocks and budding amethyst, with amethyst buds and amethyst clusters scattered throughout on the various surfaces. It wont hurt you at all to mine up all the amethyst blocks, amethyst buds, and amethyst clusters you find inside the geode. Be sure to use a silk touch pick on the amethyst buds or they will drop nothing when broken.

    How To Find Amethyst Shards

These crystalline shards are dropped when the player breaks an Amethyst Cluster, though, keep in mind that breaking them while mining with a Pickaxe yields the most Amethyst Shards.

The clusters themselves can only be found in naturally spawning structures known as Amethyst Geodes, which spawn at a 1 out of 53 chance in every new Overworld chunk that is loaded. Geodes can be found between layer 70 and Bedrock. It is possible to find them in caverns and mineshafts as well, as they overwrite these 2 kinds of generated structures.

    How To Make Copper Ingots

Like other metals, Copper Ingots can be made from smelting the specific ore in a Furnace by placing said ore in the top slot and some sort of fuel in the bottom slot.

As for where to find Copper Ore, this metallic resource can also be found in the Overworld, though at a different elevation than Amethyst Geodes. Copper Ore spawns between layers 0 and 96, with a sweet spot with higher spawn rates being located on layers 47 and 48. To gather the ore, simply mine it with any kind of Pickaxe.

Minecraft 1.17: How to make a spyglass

Crafting a spyglass in Minecraft is a relatively easy process. Players require two copper ingots and an amethyst shard. Copper can be found anywhere when mining and is denoted by its signature orange and turquoise ore pattern. Mining these blocks will drop raw copper, which can then be smelted into copper ingots.

Amethyst shards are a little more tricky to come by. All forms of amethyst, including blocks and shards, can be found in a geode. Amethyst geodes are large and not uncommon. They spawn underground but are occasionally visible from above ground .

I am so excited about all the goodies in 1.17 that I can’t decide which is my favourite! The candles? The azaleas? The spyglass?? Still need to find goats. My base is far from snowy anything! But I found my first Amethyst Geode and love it!! #minecraft

Here are all the things that can be found at a geode and how to acquire them:

    • Amethyst block can be mined with any pickaxe.
    • Budding Amethyst block – won’t drop anything without Silk Touch.
    • Amethyst clusters-a large crystal that will drop shards when mined with any pickaxe
    • Amethyst bud-drops nothing but will eventually grow into a cluster
    • Amethyst shards-mined from clusters and can be used for crafting

The shards are needed for a spyglass, one for each spyglass. When put into the crafting table with two copper ingots, a spyglass is crafted.

    How To Make A Spyglass

Players need two Copper Ingots and one Amethyst Shard to make a Spyglass in Minecraft. Once you have the required materials, open the crafting menu and add the Amethyst Shard in the first-row middle block of the 3 X 3 grid.

Now add the two Copper Ingots right below Amethyst Shard and then initiate crafting. Once the crafting process is complete, you can move the newly crafted Spyglass to your inventory.

How To Make Tinted Glass In Minecraft

Fancy adding that secretive look to your Minecraft builds? The 1.17 update adds tinted glass, which despite being translucent visually behaves like an opaque block that blocks light completely. Breaking the tinted glass block drops it as an item if broken, unlike other glass blocks.

Here is what you need to make Minecraft tinted glass:

    • Amethyst Shard x4
    • Glass block x1

To make the tinted glass at the crafting table, place the glass block in the centre square, then place an amethyst shard above, below, and on both sides of the glass block. Each time you do this, youll get two tinted shards.

And thats everything you need to know about Minecraft amethyst geodes. Since the spyglass requires it, youll probably want to know more about Minecraft copper and where you can find it. Once you have both ingredients you should have everything you need to make your own spyglass, peering out at the great beyond.
